I am 44 and still get goofy when I think of my person. Breathe through it. She will most likely just be thankful to have someone to talk to...girls like that. Even if all you do is listen to her ramble on and on...seriously. She will think you are the greatest thing since sliced bread for just being a really great listener. Maybe you will get a chance to help her through her tragedies. Knowing someone is there, that cares, that sees what you're going through is probably the greatest gift you can give someone going through hell. A better gift is helping lift the burden of those tragedies, but that isn't always possible. When my ex-husband died...I couldn't even think to eat. The kindest thing anyone did was make food for me, put it in my face, and tell me to eat and then just sit with me in silence as I tried in vain to eat. My ex and I weren't even on the greatest terms either, but it was just so sudden...it hit me hard. So sometimes just sitting and listening or just sitting inside the pain with them is enough.
I've been there.. it's rough.
