When one needs to look closely at something small, e.g. text, one takes it to approximately 40 cm distance from one’s face. If the elbows are at 90 degree angle one automatically bends the head to get closer to the object because the distance is longer, which result in neck pain. But if the angle in the elbows is 65-80 degrees (from upper body) one can keep the head over the spine and avoid the neck problems.
