@@lookatjayzjewelz Yeah. That is still in line with the entry. The entry says that they die if the flame goes out. The flame did not go out, therefore it did not die.
thats true, but in the indigo league they make it to be a really big deal since one of the episodes the group was trying to make sure the charmander's tail wouldnt go out as they specified it would die, but idk thats just one source so
Fun fact: the fire is actually really hard to put out. There’s a scene where a charizard (yeah I know, but it’s the same Pokémon just smaller) falls in a pool of water, and it takes a solid minute for it to run out. *completely covered in water*
The fact that Gary even sounds similar to Heath Ledger's Joker makes it even more convincing that Gary lost his mind and has a God complex for life in general
Best part is, this also has actual bits of lore to this. Not only does Ash ask to switch his Pokémon, meaning most likely they are near Oak’s lab as neither one has had time to check each others Pokémon meaning this is the first rival battle, but then Gary says that he wants to see his charmander die so he can, “see Gods become as weak as man.” He sees even the smallest Pokémon as Gods. He views these Pocket Monsters to be beings of unparalleled power and strength than mere mortals can rarely if ever even hope to scratch, with him likely having had this view for a long time before this. Heck, his grandpa is a Professor of these things, which to him would be like having a Priest of a tangible God as your father. And now that he’s become 10, he’s been given full control of a baby God. He wants to see what happens when those who conquered death are thrown to the wolves. He wants to see what happens when the Gods are unable to fight back. And maybe, when the Baby God is dead, he can find out what allows them to generate offspring that can launch attacks like “Hyper Beam” or “Protect” or “Telekinesis.” After all, if he can find a physical cause _he can likely replicate it with technology._
I love JJ's twists. It's so easy to make fun of ash's stupidity and loose morals but it's nearly unheard of to joke about Gary unless it's a "Blue is in love with Red" type of deal.
Another great thing to think about, Gary has a charmander and Ash a squirtle, since they haven’t evolved its safe to assume this one of the first few pokemon battles they’ve been in. Because of this theres a good possibility that Gary got Charmander for the sole purpose of testing his theory out..
I would've expected Ash to actually go for it in the ending and then both of them react to the result, based on how off the rails these skits usually go.
the idea that the true horrific evil in the Pokemon universe is Gary, who isn't even after money but just the feeling of God he gets after killing Pokemon, is hilarious to me.
"a cruel act of God" describes a ton of Pokémon. Shit, Scizor's Mega Evolution specifies it will literally melt from the inside out if it fights for too long. There's a ton of Pokémon that look like their existence is pure pain and I think that's because someone on the creative team got tired of making games for kids or something

I like to imagine that Gary knows that his Charmander isn't going to die from Squirtle's water-based attacks and that he's just messing with Ash for kicks.
Fun fact: They retconned it so that the flame is an indicator of a Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard’s health. The tail flame goes out when it dies, but the tail flame going out doesn’t cause its death. In-universe, they made it a new discovery by a Pokémon professor like Oak.

I see that after Professor Oak forgot his name, Gary realized how fragile and thin family connections were and became a sadist. He decided to abandon connections to not get hurt and wanted to ascend into godhood... Edit: corrected from masochist to sadist
The attention to detail is PHENOMENAL. If you listen closely to Gary's voice you notice the similarities to Prof Oak's voice, further cementing it in your mind that they're related. I don't know how much of this is voice acting and how much is editing but either way it's fantastic. Well done!

Everyone agrees that if people followed the ten commandments there would be no need for governments or police. Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not commit adultery. Do not insult God by using his name as a cuss word. There are six more but let's just leave it at that. How many lies have you told in your life? This went from Ash having a crisis of faith to Gary turning out to be a straight-up Serial Killer.
Gary hasn't killed yet so it's more like attempted murderer
Ash being the only person who realizes the insanity of the Pokémon universe and its Pokédex entries sounds like the plot of an abridged series.

I think it was a mistranslation that was fixed in latter entries, the tail goes out when it dies but it dosent die if the tail goes out.

"I want to feel like a god"
This got darker than I thought it would. You've outdone yourself, good sir.
The fact that Gary even sounds similar to Heath Ledger's Joker makes it even more convincing that Gary lost his mind and has a God complex for life in general
I was going to say, it seems like a very similar spiral
I figure he sounded closer to Prof Oak
I THOUGHT SO TOO LOL
Some people just want to see the world burn.
When he said I want you to do it, that gave off such Heath ledger joker vibes
Terrifying!

Another great thing to think about, Gary has a charmander and Ash a squirtle, since they haven’t evolved its safe to assume this one of the first few pokemon battles they’ve been in. Because of this theres a good possibility that Gary got Charmander for the sole purpose of testing his theory out..
I like how Gary said, “I said” a millisecond before Ash said, “what” as if he already knew he was the only psychopath there.
I would've expected Ash to actually go for it in the ending and then both of them react to the result, based on how off the rails these skits usually go.
I was kind of looking forward to it.
I mean, aren't you a least a little bit curious?
the idea that the true horrific evil in the Pokemon universe is Gary, who isn't even after money but just the feeling of God he gets after killing Pokemon, is hilarious to me.
I go off of hte idea of Pokedex entries being a mix of mythological stories of varying degrees of truth and actual science, personally, and you probably should.
Mega Evo's are a cruel act of man, not God
@@RollingBobbyJones I mean, they're brought about only through a bond between man and mon.
Seems more like a burden the mon puts itself under for their trainer's sake.
doesn't mega garchomp's dex entry say that the reason why chomp's arms change is that they straight up melted into that shape through mega evolution?
And different from Scizor, it doesn't happen only if x thing occurs, it will happen every single time garchomp mega evolves, that sounds painful af

Well if Gary actually acted this ruthless, the Raticate death theory sounds a lot more plausible
What's the Raticate death theory?
@@commanderjason7786 that Gary's Raticate fainted for good after the Pokemon battle on the cruise ship because he couldn't get it to a Pokemon Center the reason people believe this is because Gary's radicate doesn't appear in his party after this
@@commanderjason7786 the Raticate Gary has at some point in the game is implied (at some degree) to have died after you beat it in battle. There's a scene where Gary is in the graveyard tower place that has a name I can't remember and he says he's there to see his Pokémon or something. I haven't touched any of the games in a while so my memory's fuzzy but basically your character killed one of Gary's Pokémon.
@@commanderjason7786 When you fight Gary during pokemon red and blue, aboard the SS ANNE, he has a radicate, when you run into him next, it's in the pokemon tower in lavender town. His radicate isn't on his team anymore, and it's never seen again. It's theorized that the damage you gave radicate during your battle on the SS ANNE was fatal, and gary couldn't get to a pokemon center in time, and his radicate died. And as the theory goes, the reason he was in the pokemon tower, is because he was burying his radicate. The radicate that you killed.
Ok, wow. That's... actually pretty plausible. Damn. Didn't expect the games to go THAT dark, but given the Pokedex entries, I shouldn't be surprised.

The moment Gary asks if Ash is curious, I started dying from laughter until the end.
I like to imagine this is Gary’s revenge after the “Dickfuck” incident
I feel like after Ash’s encounter with James he’s become slightly more aware how crappy of a person he’s been.
Which video was that?
Gary went from a thick-headed rival ignoring the warnings, to a terrifying monster, the origins of a psychopath.
Somehow Ash is more of a conscientious and intelligent trainer in this 80 second meme than in all of Indigo League
He curbstomped in the first round match with a Krabby he had never used before and made it to like the quarter-finals with mostly pre-evolved Pokemon. Had he been smarter and more analytical he probably could have won the whole damn thing.
What makes this even better is I'm prety sure that it dying when the tail goes out is a mistranslation, it goes out when the pikemon dies but the flame going out is not the cause of death. It's not a cruel act of arceus its a bad translation.
Are you sure? Wasn't there an entire episode about Ash trying to keep Charmander's tail burning while a storm threatened to put it out?

Missed opportunity for a "YOU DON'T HAVE THE POKEBALLS ASH"
How do you get to hell?
Very simple: claim that you're innocent.
How do you get to heaven?
Very simple: Admit that you're not Innocent, you're guilty and ask for mercy.
How to know if you're guilty or not?
Simply: Compare your life to the Ten Commandments God gave you in the Bible.
Everyone agrees that if people followed the ten commandments there would be no need for governments or police.
Do not lie.
Do not steal.
Do not commit adultery.
Do not insult God by using his name as a cuss word.
There are six more but let's just leave it at that.
How many lies have you told in your life?
Have you ever taken anything that didn't belong to you?
Jesus said, if you look at a women lustfully you've already committed adultery in your heart with that woman.
How many times a day do you do that?
Do you use God's name as a cuss word?
Would you do that with your own mother's name?
If you answer these questions honestly you know that you're guilty.
God can justly punish you and send you to hell.
Ask him for mercy.
His name is Jesus.
It's as simple as this, The Ten Commandments are called the moral law. You and I broke God's laws. Jesus paid the fine.
The fine is death.
Ezekiel 18:20 -
"The soul who sins shall die.
That's why Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins. This is why God is able to give us Mercy.
Option A.
You die for your own sins.
Option B.
Ask for mercy and accept that Jesus died on the cross for you.

If you think that a Pokemon can die, wait till' the Ghost type comes in.
Ash and Gary realize god's creations are flawed...but Gary revels in those cracks while Ash slinks away in horror.
I was already a bit thrown off by the Charmander dying bit even if it’s semi well known but Gary going all in on it just made this go from a video to a whole experience
This actually would explain why in later generations the rivals choose the type you are strong against.
I always assumed it was for the sake of making the very first fight less RNG, since grinding on wild pokemon is slow (they're worth about half the experience of a trainer pokemon of the same level in most games, I think) so that initial first level up is very much appreciated.
The way the lavander town theme emerges and layers as the video progresses is masterful.
Honestly Ash not wanting to brutally murder a living creature is kind of out of character, at least the character we see on this channel.
Ash is having character development when Gary changes into end-game villan
