- UPDATE Setup printheads are now an obsolete method of priming. Do not enter the menu to tell the printer you're replacing the ink tube system. We now exclusively include a universal priming tool that can be reused. How to use: 15:10
Today I show you how to replace the ink tube system on your Designjet 500-800 series printer.

Thank you for posting these videos, you're a lifesaver for many of us using this workhorse and can't get HP support in 2023
THANK YOU BOB YOU ARE A MACHINE SAVER !!!! GREATE EXPLANATION YOU MAKE IT EASY UNDERTADABLE !!! GREAT JOB !!!! tHANKS AGAIN !!!
Bob ты самый лучший. Береги себя.
Thank you for sharing, Bob!
Thank you for all those who have taught you a great deal
Great video. Replaced my ink tube yesterday.
Did this work?
Hi Bob, I'm your fan, can you teach us how to transform the Hp 500 plotter from color to black? Print in black only.
do you offer support for hP DesignJet500 42" color Plotter I purchased on 2003 gently used and now getting code 80:01 and there is no paper jamb????
Hi, since yesterday my HP Designjet 500 displays the Message "Ink cartridge expires in 10 days" (the Magenta Cartridge), but the cartridge/ink is more than half full. He never did that before with any of the cartridges. I read in the Internet if the 10 days are over, the printer won't let you print anymore until you change the cartridge. Is that true? If yes, are there any workarounds to use the cartridge until it's empty? I thought maybe i can somehow reset or change the internal system-time or date in the printer itself to tell him (for example) it's December 2021 an not 2022... Or maybe you have another trick and can tell me how to avoid throwing away a more than half full cartridge? Thank you
P.S. I learned a lot about my DJ500 and repaired some things in the past with the help of your videos - so thanks a lot for your work, best regards from Germany!
Bob can’t thank you enough for all the videos you have uploaded. I have currently replaced the ink cartridges- all worked except for the magenta couldn’t be read by the machine- so i went and ordered a new one - all worked then replaced the printheads - then later the ink cartridges failed but the new magenta ink seemed to work alone !
I tried to place the older one but still three cartridges have now failed
Do i try to replug the ink station ?
I had an error code of 79:04 before all this happened.
Nice work Bob
Thanks!
Hi bob.
Please is this replacement procedure similar to replacing the T770 44inch printer Ink tube systems replacement?
Good stuff 🙂
I have same problem I have unable to print for like 3 months now it keep bringing the same error saying I should close my print head properly even after I change what necessary
Thank you so much
Bob I love how easy you make all this look not tried it out myself just happened to find your channel on a different matter,
I appear to be getting what seem to be dried ink splats little dots or round balls on my prints after it has passed the carriage, I've tried troubleshooting cleaning the printer heads via the system not manual as my latch is broke and I want it to be a last resort before taking a look at the printer heads, any advice what it could be or are my guesses correct already and ill have to have a look at the printer heads (at the moment I have a piece of plastic holding the little purple latch in place hence why I don't want to move it )
Hi Dee Gee,
Hi Dee Gee. Can you send me a picture of the image problem and the broken piece? bob_wert@lpscomputer.com
Hi Bob, I have a problem with cyan ink. It’s new and it’s a good date until 2022, but when I replaced it it tells me it’s missing (Hp 800) Can you give me some advice on what it might be. Thank you
hp 500 is there a way to print when 1 printhead is damaged (cyan printhead), I only print in black and white
Hi Bob, I would like to ask you which can be the reasons and signs of the ink tube system to failure?. Thanks
The reason for failure is check valves that get worn out. The check valve where the printhead plugs into the tube system is designed to keep ink from leaking out, but the valve spring weakens over time, making it easier for the atmosphere to push its way into the lines when barometric pressure exceeds the standing pressure of the ink delivery system. Then the air gets into the printhead, and kills the printhead.
Does anyone know why All print heads keep showing as FAILED.. ? Please assist!
Could you help me? It said my magenta print head was clogged and needed to be changed so I purchased a remanufactured one and installed it. Once I did that it said the remaining three needed to be changed so I went and purchased a full kit. Now it is saying only 1 the Cyan needs to be changed. Before I buy an expensive Cyan alone (because I know they are a lot by themselves) could it be saying its a faulty print head because I haven't actually put the ink in I bought? This machine had been sitting for like 3 years and no one used it so I don't even think there is ink in there or if it is its probably bad. I did buy ink. So could the problem be I need to install the ink first? Thank you in advance!
This may be a signal issue. I'd start by cleaning the contacts on the trailing cable connectors. Pull the trailing cable connectors out of the carriage PCA, and carefully clean the contacts with a pencil eraser or mild abrasive. Plug the cables back in and see if the symptom changes or disappears.
Hi Bob, thanks for the great video. I left a request on the LPS website last week that went unanswered, so I try my luck here: I have a Designjet 500PS 24", will the C7769-60381 Designjet 500 / 800 24" Ink Tubes Kit fit this one? (Is the 500 and 500PS similar in terms of the ink station/tubes?) And do you ship to Europe? I also need to upgrade the RAM on my plotter, is this a complicated issue?
Kind regards, Havard G. Hagen, Norway
Please accept my apology; the request on the website had been answered, my mail server had only screened it as junk for some reason. All well now.
Håvard
Hello. The tube systems work on the PS and non-PS versions equally well. The Designjet 500PS can be upgraded to 128mb with www.lpscomputer.com/collections/designjet-500-800-parts-page/products/c2388a-designjet-500-800-memory-128mb . Yes, we ship to Europe.
ola sou do Brasil, tenho uma mensagem na plotter HP Designjet 500 "Manutenção aconselhada" como remover essa mensagem?
hi
do you know if your version 500 uses the really expensive printhead ink cartridges or does it use the individual ink tanks?
Our ink tube systems are compatible only with HP OEM supplies.

You're welcome. :)
I have a 24" DJ 500 that won't enter the service utilities menu from the panel. I can go into the setup menu but not past it to the service utilities with the UP and ENTER keys. Is there another way to get to that menu, and failing that, can I still change the tubes and prime them?

Can you do a video, or offer advice on the installation of T610 Designjet ink system?
It is on our "To-do list".
Bob Wert I just ordered the parts. Can I describe to you my issue or should I Call the help line? I'd like to speak with you directly. Your fiery wit and striking improvisation is helpful.
is there a way to put a CISS system on the designjet 800 ps? id like to switch it to pigmented ink with a bulk tank
There may be a third party bulk ink system for this plotter but I don't know of one.
Доброго времени суток, имею в наличии hp designjet 800 случайно зашёл в режим замены трубок, на данный момент принтер отказывается печатать выдавая сообщение: Normal printer heads found Open window and replace with SETUP printheads, как выйти из этого режима?
We're can I get printheads
HELLO BOB
CAN WE CHANGE CONNECTOR OF INK TUBE SYSTEM THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE PRINTHEAD?? I DONT KNOW THE NAME, THE SILICON TYPE , VALVE TYPE ITEM.
CAN WE CHANGE THAT???
Hello. The part is called the print head port. It usually breaks at the elbow that connects to the tube. You can replace that part if you get another bad tube system and remove the part from that. The hard part is getting the elbow barb out without breaking it. The old one can be drilled out with a small bit. Probably time for a new tube system.
the print head cover and screw is not one piece also the screw can be remove to replace the print head cover
How much do the ink cartridges cost?
The setup print heads are obsolete. See: th-cam.com/video/7j-SQ_Hc8r0/w-d-xo.html (minute 15) and www.lpscomputer.com/collections/designjet-500-800-parts-page/products/designjet-ink-tube-priming-tool
hi bBob, where can I buy the headprinters without chip? whats their name? many thanks
Did you ever find out?
@@stuartcotterill9475 no, but you can use a normal printhead without chip
what would cause my printer to not print nothing on the paper but not giving any errors it acts like it is but nothing comes out
It sounds like the nozzles in the printheads have dried out. I recommend purging the ink tube system with a priming tool, and then replace the printheads.
is it a special way the latch is inserted
Which latch do you mean?
Bob Wert the latch that holds down the print head cover
If you're talking about the purple latch on the ink tube system, you have to remove the screw, unclip the 5 tabs on the grey molding, and displace it enough to slip the latch into place from the underside.
Bob Wert yes that's the one, do it matter which way it's place in other words do it have a from side and back side or is it the same either way.
The purple latch is reversible --no front or back.
