Great ideas for fall! Thank you ,Alyssa, for helping me to look at my own closet differently and to avoid unnecessary purchases. My wardrobe now contains only pieces I truly love and wear in more creative ways. :)
Love layering an open button up, like a denim shirt or chambray shirt under a blazer. Feels comfortable, with a sort of corporate vibe without being stiff or buttoned up.
🤍Love the combo outside the office. The formality of the blazer contrasted w/the casualness of the shirt adds a 🆒️ playful punch. A jeans, chambray, or even a patterned shirt (like a polka dot, checkerboard, or buffalo check) will instantly dial down ⬇️ the formal fussiness of classic corporate wear. 🤓Like a men's slim cut button down shirt. This style reduces the ➡️boxy bulk⬅️ of an ordinary button up & neatly keeps the collar under control too. Women's shirt sleeves are frequently short on my limbs, but the men's sleeves are always longer. In both cases, I end up cuffing them under or over the blazer sleeve for extra visual interest. Usually keep the shirt unbuttoned over a ribbed razorback tank that matches the trouser & ankle boots when it chills out. If I feel more feminine, I'll knot the shirt open loose over a silky camisole that matches a skirt, tights, & taller boots instead. 😊My favorite is a black & white tweed blazer over an all black base. A blue denim shirt pulls a tiny blue weave on this jacket out. Plus, a red scarf🧣 will bring out the petite dots of red weave too. 😉There's always topping it off w/a hat too. A knit cap when feeling more boyishly grunge. A beret when feeling more feminine. A coordinating🧢 cap when feeling sassy. A wool trilby hat, mittens🧤 & loafers when wanting a retro vibe. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
This seems really simple but it's so dense with examples that I've watched it twice and will probably walk myself through some closet try-ons with each of the ideas and watch multiple more times! ❤
As a fellow Canadian, I have worn a lightweight denim jacket under a blazer for many years. A denim shirt works just as well, and if the blazer is a textured wool or even better, a tweed, the duo is magic 🤩
I've been doing the double-jacket/layer one over the other look (usually my denim jacket under my wool coat) since the 90's! Who knew I was so fashion forward 🤣!!??!!
It's incredibly rare for me to click on videos, despite the content, just because I enjoy the TH-camr. But it always works that way for your video- you have a calm about you, but equally important, you are always coming up with news ideas that I can easily apply or try out, and we have similar styles, but you have a bit more edge and playfulness that helps me break out of my comfort zone! Although I have to say, I love seeing another girl as obsessed with wearing button downs like me. :)
Thank you for sharing something new to do with the old stuff in my closet. I love your slow fashion vibe Alyssa. Sending love n best wishes from Tennessee.
Great video as always. As a child of the 50s and 60s I saw collars layered over lapels and did that for a long time. Now I mix it up according to my mood. As I lose weight, I am layering more. PS I am enjoying your course very much. . It is a great review of the lessons that you have taught me over the years., If someone is new to your channel, they should purchase the course and catch up on all of your amazing knowledge . By the way, you did not charge enough. This course is priceless.
My almost 10 years old daughter flew to Madrid yesterday morning wearing layers 😂 she looked comfortable and cool 😎, I should follow her and Alyssa's lead and do the same 😊.
Yes! More tips about layering coats with skirts, pants and dresses. I have especially trouble with layering a longer layer underneath a coat. More videos about that! Please!
Thanks, Alyssa! This will be helpful for our last Autumn living in the Midwest. Moving to Southwestern US will be such a huge adjustment! Full Winter temperatures there in January are 60's F°/30's°F...wait, what?!? 😳😊♥️🌞
Such great tips, Alyssa! I especially loved accessories… Who knew how creative you can be with socks, belts, and jewelry. Thanks for this seasonal gem! 😉❤️
Thanks I just layered a cute older fitted fleece vest with a newer oversized button up shirt today and it looked great together. You are an inspiration 😊.
I loved this video and especially the corset and button up layering, as well as one of my favorites of the season, belting outerwear!! 😍😍 happy autumn 🍂
Unless I have on high waisted jeans, I like wearing my belts a little lower than my natural waistline because I am short and short waisted. Not as big at the hips and thighs. Enjoyed this video.
Hi Alyssa, this is a great video full of ideas to play with in our own closets. The essence of shopping our closets! I can see play time on a rain day happening real soon (hopefully!).
Enjoyed and loved your video. Thank you for sharing and inspiration. I shop my own wardrobe and follow your advise I feel I don’t need more shopping trips for this year. Excellent video 👏🙏💐😎
Monica Vinader has that Baroque Pearl charm for $138. They also have some that are $98. If that's out of your budget. Then etsy has them as cheap as $10. But the $10 ones the findings won't be made from gold or gold vermeil. All depends on what quality you're willing to pay for.
Love these tips, thank you ❤ I've been thinking about layering my denim jacket on top of a sweater for too long and now the weather where I live is too cold for that 🥶 Luckily, now I get to layer my denim jacket UNDER a coat 😂 Note to myself to try it sooner while it's not too cold for that either 😂 P.S. to me silk with faux fur is a much more dramatic combination than sheer + leather, but will try it nevertheless! Thinking of an occasion where it would be appropriate to wear, maybe a theater night?

Also, I just layered necklaces for the first time in my life today!! I was about to Google how to layer jewelry but decided just to try. I inadvertently came up with a pair of necklaces similar to what you wear in this video (one thicker chain and one pendant) but in silver 🥰 Mixing metals would require much courage from me! But a tip I remember from one of Justine Leconte's older videos - rose gold goes well with both yellow gold and silver, so it may be an easier way to start 😊 I personally don't have anything in rose gold, but maybe that helps someone else who is also in the mood for experiments today ❤
I loved this layering video but I’m 5’2” and a tiny bit chubby. Hard for me to layer without looking the Michelin marshmallow man! Any suggestions for us petite girls that are not exactly svelte?
Wear darker colours and only layer one piece, draw attention to your best bits, for example if you have a lovely neck, layer a white crew neck t-shirt under a darker sweater/jumper to draw the eye to that area. Stick to neutrals/tonal/monochrome. I'm petite and used to chubby too, I lost weight easily eating big portions following the Dr McDougall starch solution (google the free online version)
Loved this video! Would love to belt jackets or other things but I am a little short-waisted and I wonder what you would recommend? Should I try a narrower belt or just not do it at all?
😊Me too. A thin belt works best for us over a blazer. I like using a men's leather braided belt bcos it allows me to cinch it in exactly where I need it every time w/o having to add a new hole. Next, I use a coordinating or clear elastic hair band as a loop to corral any of the extra flap. It keeps things nice & neat. Men's belts are frequently made of better quality. Can often find belts of different waist sizes too. In my experience, women's belts frequently come in one size fits all. Plus, they don't last as long & can be more expensive. ⏳️ As an hourglass, my belts are a workhorse. They need to be sturdy bcos they take a lot of abuse😖. With button ups & trousers, I usually have to size up to fit breast/hips w/o any stress. In both cases, that typically leaves a lot of volume I need to reduce at the waist. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
@@virginiav.1172 😊My pleasure. Hope they help you. 🤓Someone else in our similar situation here also suggested we wear the belt slightly lower⬇️ than our natural waist over a blazer. It will 100% create some much needed visual space ↕️ on our torso, esp. if you're larger breasted like myself👍. 😉That trick is MOST visually flattering on those w/a short torso & longer legs. If your torso is about the same length of your legs (as mine) or your torso is longer than your legs〰️these body configurations already seem a bit visually top heavy. Therefore lowering your belt could visually stunt the height of your legs even further😂. 🤔Frankly, it's not something I do a lot of, but I will purposely lower my belt on occasion. Although I do prefer to tie a high waisted drawstring trouser slightly lower (on the top of my hipbone vs natural waist). Otherwise, it can look like my breasts are resting on my waist🤣. 💚Bridget☘️
Funny how these layering looks are coming back. I used to wear 2 button up complimentary colors shirts under a Levi's denim jacket when I was in highschool in the 90s in Europe. Pop the collar of the shirt closer to the neck, leave the sleeves unbottoned and have them peak through the jacket. Straight jeans, thick belt, chunky boots. Undone, effortless but totally bad ass 😅
I LOVE the look of layers but rarely can wear them because I run HOT. Polyester is esp a problem for me (cotton and linen items are increasing in my closet), i can't wear ANY kind of wool for some reason (bummer). The best i can do is wear a sleeveless vest/top and add a thin cardigan so i can level my cool/hot tipping point. 😞😁
I saw a video where a stylist wore her black puffy down jacket under her more attractive long wool coat. How do you feel about that? I have some down jackets which are definitely functional but not very fashionable
Anyone know where I can get petite stockings? I’m 5’2” and they always end up pooled at my ankles at the end of the day or I’m yanking them up all day long. ❤
I can't stand layering more than three piefes (I mean, outwear included). It makes me sweat when I enter the supermarket, for example, and there is no chance to take off any of the layers (I am in size L which makes the problem even more dramatic). Thus, I gave up trying 😂
The faux fur vest looks dated and unflattering, it's really not elegant imo, maybe time to replace it with a more modern/shorter version? The patterned jacket doesn't look good, it's not current or classy, please please Alyssa, get rid of it! (Sorry!) Jeans - it would have been nice to see darker wash jeans, I think white looks best in summer. Bustier looks are not your best. You have to be tall and slim to look elegant in two outerwear pieces as at least one needs to be oversize so as a petite women I don't think I will try this layering tip, but I love the sheer tights option and also the suede and wool, as I love simple, low contrast textures
Goes to show how subjective it can be to view clothing....for example, that patterned jacket is my absolute favorite piece in her wardrobe. I've even been thinking to get a tailor to make one for me out of similar fabric. Classic, elegant and so visually interesting. And the white pants or jeans are finally cool to wear in autumn/ winter. What a great look....I love it, especially when outside it's dark and often gloomy in our cities; white or cream brightens everything up when we wear it. Different strokes, I guess!
@@elliotm1608lots of us do, especially with a wool or tweed blazer. Instead of a denim jacket, a denim shirt works well. I’ve worn the denim and blazer duo for 3 decades
@virginiav.1172 😊Very true. Honestly thought Alyssa carried it off, but I did like it better when she allowed the tail of her shirt to hang out vs being fully tucked in. Liked the proportion play better in the former look. That bustier would NOT be flattering on my form, esp. in a contrasting color😂. ⚠️Both would simply certify my status as a wide load↔️ . ⏳️As a curvy, not obese, hourglass w/well developed limbs I already appear w-i-d-e-r than the average woman🤣. I typically avoid anything that will visually reinforce my width. Plus, also being shortwaisted, a stretchy corset type belt just folds in over itself on my frame😔. 🤔Instead of a corset, I could swap that piece for a fitted waistcoat or a cropped sweater vest if I want to leave the tails out on a day I am feeling a bit bloated🤫. 😃The GOOD news is that both of those suggested garments would help control the excess volume of any button up around my waist. 🙄The BAD news is having the shirt tail out like that will 100% make my legs appear shorter🪵. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
