    I am pleased to be joining you in this weave-along. I am recovering from a cold, so I have had a few mistakes with warping up and threading, but looking forward to weaving with fewer mistakes!! ((I must remember next time not to use a dark warp - difficult at night!)) Happy weaving everyone!

    One of my weaving goals for 2024 is to weave enough cloth napkins that we can use them every day, thus eliminating the need to purchase paper disposable ones. The option to weave more of those AND practice using 2 heddles on the RH loom AND interact with a community of fellow weavers are all icing on the cake.
    PS I always enjoy seeing your studio behind you and your pretty summer dress is just lovely :-)

    Hi Kelly, I'm so glad I found you. I don't even have my new Ashford 32" rigid heddle loom yet, it's on the way, but I've been watching videos practically nonstop since I ordered it. Honestly, I'm getting overloaded on information, but you are by far my favorite teacher. I'm actually a potter by trade so this will be a totally new adventure for me. I'll pull myself away from my wheel and sit in front of my loom.....I better jog around a bit first. I think I would like to do the weave along and as I understand it, I can watch it and still have access to it months after it has taken place? I will have to get my loom, set it up and get comfortable with it before attempting your class, oh, and order another heddle. Maybe I should start with a simple scarf. I've already seen so many patterns I want to try but I know I'll be following you and appreciate all the videos you have put out on TH-cam.

      Hi Marian, It's great to feel your enthusiasm but make sure you walk before you run - weaving with two heddles is a better technique for a more experienced weaver. Sure, you can enrol in the weave along when it opens, that way you will have it there when you are ready. But if you're looking for a beginner class, start with this one - kelly-casanova-weaving-lessons.teachable.com/p/beginner-rigid-heddle

      @@KellyCasanova Oh, thanks for the recommendation! I looked through all the classes you have in your school and there were so many that seemed to answer questions that I already had, that I went ahead and signed up for 6 months! Very happily working my way through them. I'm 67 years old but I still get so excited to learn something new, gotta keep the brain working 🙂 Thank you again. Please take care of yourself and know that you will attract many more students with your lovely personality and wonderful teaching method. Marian

      @@KellyCasanova Me again 🙂 I promise not to bug you too often. I just have 2 quick questions. 1. What is the best method to ask you a question, instead of adding on to this post? 2. I'm watching the video in your school, From Wo to Go and I'm wondering if the cardboard sticks you use to insert a header have to be a certain thickness or can I just cut them from a box? Still haven't received my loom, shipping has been taking forever around here. By here, I mean the U.S. I'm in Tennessee. Hope you are doing great!

    I would love to join, but I have an old rh loom that does not have a place for a second heddle. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you.. I am thinking of buying a 8-shaft table loom., but am worried I won't understand how to use it as easily as the rhl.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually even if your RH loom doesn't have a set place for a second heddle, you can still use one by letting it "float" behind the first heddle, using it when you need to.

      Could I use the next size heddle for the second one? I do not have a second heddle as of now. I have to special order since my loom is so old or cut down a longer one, which I have done both.

    I am looking forward to the weave-along! In preparation, I have been working with my loom and getting familiar with working with two heddles.
    My dilemma: I inherited a fair amount of weaving yarn from my mother, most of it with no markings to tell me what it is. (One tiny label told me one ball is linen!)
    Is there a resource somewhere to help me figure out if the yarn is 8/2, 8/4, or something totally different? Some of the balls look like cotton but are as thick as sport weight knitting yarn.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To figure out the weight of the individual yarns, all you need is an inch ruler. Do a wrap test as shown in this video - th-cam.com/video/I_s6aAqNrhg/w-d-xo.html
      Knowing what your yarn is made of is a bit more tricky to ascertain when it's not labelled. A burn test can be useful to give you more information. You can use small amounts of the yarns to do this.
      Generally, wool is burn resistant so when you set it on fire it will blacken but probably not be consumed. It also smells like burned hair.
      Cotton will burn quite readily but generally hold it's shape as it burns.
      Acrylic will usually have an unpleasant chemical aroma as it burns and give off a dark smoke. It melts when burned and behaves a bit like plastic.
      Hope that helps!

    As a newbie, explain what “dent heddles” are please? I’m starting with backstrap weaving with string heddles, starting with one, but I understand the concept of being able to use more than one. My skills just aren’t there yet.

    • @KellyCasanova
      @KellyCasanova  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm referring to the heddles/reeds you use for rigid heddle weaving - they don't apply in backstrap weaving.

    • @mendyviola
      @mendyviola 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KellyCasanova I’m still curious to what it means. I have a rigid heddle now that I’m experimenting with.

    • @alexsandrazanetti8356
      @alexsandrazanetti8356 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@mendyviolait refers to how many dents per inch (or per centimeter) that the heddle has - which finally will determine the density of your woven fabric. You see this referes to as “epi”, “ends per inch” - which means, how many treads you have per inch of woven cloth.
      For that you’ll have different sized heddles - and that’s also why Kelly says “you’ll need to adapt your yarn to the heddle you choose”.
      I hope it helps a bit. 🙂

    • @mendyviola
      @mendyviola 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexsandrazanetti8356 that helps and makes sense to me now. Thank you so much. I have a little stand alone rigid heddle that makes backstrap weaving a bit easier for bands rather than threading them.
