This was surprising. Not a Ramones song anyone usually reacts to. Usually, it's I Want to be Sedated or Blitzkrieg Bop. Kudos

What a great reaction and sum up! Thank you from a pre-teen '70s punk! The Ramones were sneered at and jeered by our parents, but we loved them anyway.

I miss the Ramones. They played music like they didn't care what people thought or liked. I guess you can say that about a lot of music but punk was the epitome of that.

Oh yeah! He was really good. My friends played a gig with him a few years ago. What do you think of Subterranean Jungle? I love it, since about 83 when I was 11. Also love the ones you listed. Pretty much all Ramones LP's but SJ was the first. Along with Talking Heads- Speaking In Tongues also in '83🤓👽🎸

@@mattjohn4731 if it's me you're asking I think there are a lot of goodies on that album too. There are always at least one or two good tracks on every Ramones album, but I love the ones Ritchie was on.

I wasn't the world's biggest Ramones fan, but songs like "Blitzkrieg Bop", "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Sheena Was a Punk Rocker" were kind of ubiquitous during my high school years. Because of this, for nostalgic purposes, I find myself smiling when I hear them. Nothing wrong with like The Ramones. They were kind of like the answer to the corporate rock "problem" that so many saw as taking the individuality and uniqueness out of rock music. Were they actual punk? Who knows and who cares. They made some great three minute songs.

The Ramones were an original punk band from the CBGB's days in the Bowery in NYC. They were from Forest Hills, Queens NYC, and were surprisingly heavily influenced, according to the band members themselves, by The Beatles and Elvis Presley, just speeded up. Got to see them three times in their prime and it was always a fast, heavy, energetic show. They are also a major part of the movie "Rock and Roll High School", which is also the title of one of their songs. Along with: "Blitzkrieg Bop", "I'm A Teenage Lobotomy", "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker", "The KKK Took My Baby Away", "Pinhead", "Do Ya Wanna Dance", "We're A Happy Family", "California Sun", "Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio?", "I Wanna Be Sedated" and "Pet Semetary". Hey Ho Let's Go!

@@g.garcia7151 I have a great book on bubblegum music and the author clearly makes the connection between that genre and punk. A simple evolution, really, with the volume turned up and a little anger and rebellion mixed in.

The Ramones, though good, were not the earliest punk band by a long shot. For an earlier and more representative sound of American Punk, I highly recommend listen to an early 70s band called The Dolls of New York, or also referred to as the New York Dolls. David Johannsen, the lead vocalist, really was an iconic punk figure, one who later had a major pop hit in the 80s in a re-invention of himself under the name Buster Poindexter. Also, a band called MC5 out of Detroit in the late 60s, were kind of pre-punk, and would be a good listen. I think you'd actually like both a lot more than you might expect.

The much simpler arrangement heard on live performances of this song gives it a straightforward punk sound and I actually prefer them to the studio version. Yeah maybe the studio version with all the backing vocals and keyboards and layers of guitars make it an objectively musically superior version, but it lacks the aggression of live performances whick IMO convey the rage of the lyrics better.
