I went low carb after the bare minimum of research, I thought it sounded easy to stick to, and what could it hurt to try it for a while. After experiencing multiple health benefits I began to read more and more about it, and was determined to never go back to the old way of eating. So my approach was the opposite of scientific! Worked for me though.

Good human health comes from human behavior and that includes eating human food.

I was diagnosed with diabetes Oct 2021 and decided to change my diet. Thankfully I did my own research online and fortunately found about about low carb. I didn't know if it would work, but many people were saying how quickly it worked for them and that they were able to remit their diabetes, so I decided to try it for 3 months. After that time my A1C was 5.2. It's now 17 months later and I'm still eating low carb. Over the last 6-8 months I have increased my protein and fat intake and in the last 2 months I have started including 4 days per week where I only eat 2 meals a day. I'm amazed at how much better I feel and that food no longer has a hold over me like it used to.

What you said about the weight loss effects trailing off after two years sort of tracks with my experience. The weight loss was massive when I first started keto and intermittent fasting, far greater than counting calories on a standard diet, but eventually my body got used to it and the effects weren’t so dramatic anymore. Still, it’s much easier to maintain the weight loss than it was following the CICO model. I’m still not a proponent of counting calories, but I think that after two years it may be beneficial to limit your food intake by throwing in a few back to back OMAD days every once in a while and getting in a fair amount of walking all while keeping your carbs low in order to continue your weight loss. Of course everyone’s experience may vary. No matter what, I’m never going back to eating the way that I did before because I feel so much better physically and mentally on a low carb diet.

There is no such thing as food addiction. If you
are addicted to it, it is not food. Carb addiction
on the other hand is a thing.

Okay, I’ll buy that. After all, your reasoning does still allow for SUGAR ADDICTION, which sadly is a thing...!😮

Conclusion: Carbs are not food. I agree. No more than alcohol or heroin.

Yup - highly processed food and seed oils are the biggest problems with health for much of the "developed" world

@@mj8495 All carbohydrates are a huge problem in the human diet - whether "processed" or not.

I liked the opening so much: "If I don't believe establishment and I don't believe...ahm..."certain things", then, how do I make decisions." This is really very real challenge for all reasonable (wo)men these days.

I seem to remember "Neurotics build castles in the air, psychotics live in them, psychiatrists collect the rent". Can anyone identify the origin of this?

Having a dig at mental patients with "psychosis" made this a big negative for me. Otherwise correct just a crappy joke at the expense a group of people who have been abused by doctors to the nth degree.

Weak presentation. Graphs were rushed through and very poorly displayed so that you could not read or understand them. Also, the presenter resorted in an ad-hom towards anyone that might have an honest disagreement with him on his findings. When you have to resort to a statement like "mentally ill people build castles in their minds and then live within them" as a response to honest debate and strong arguments against what you purport as "truth?" You're showing a very weak hand.
I'm still on the fence with the low carb/high fat/proteins diet vs plant based higher carb diet. I'm not a member of either cult. I just want to know the truth. Dr Carvhalo on "Nutrition made Simple" channel just released an hour+ video dissecting Ekberg's low carb video systematically presenting (and referencing!) the highest quality and most widely repeatable scientific evidence available (with special emphasis on HIGHEST quality AND the most numerous and REPEATABLE studies!). Evidence that basically supports a low saturated fat, mostly plant-based diet and also included overwhelming evidence supporting statin use in those that specifically need them (i.e. not everybody). I would love to see a detailed piece by piece video response to his video from one or more of the low carb doctors.

I suspect there is no “true diet” and that different people will respond to diets differently. I guess some of it might be due to genetics. Im from Northern European stock and my body does well with dairy foods. Many folks with genetic roots in other parts of the world don’t have the ability to eat dairy products without a great deal gastrointestinal distress. Carbohydrate tolerance/intolerance may end up being similar. What works for one might not work for all. N=1 is something each person can do and you can be the expert on your own life.

Go and watch Bart Kay take apart Carvhalo who by the way pushes a plant based diet but tries to be slippery about it. Carvhalo isn’t a clinician so offers zero clinical experience.

Truth in nutrition sounds like an oxymoron to me, currently 🥲my rule of thumb: do the OPPOSITE of what the government says. SAD but truth.

That's the argument of the anti-vaxxers. It's more an attitude than a reasoned position. As human beings we have the power of reason, and should use it.

    • @notjustforme

@@vernaxxx8940 Well, as long as government studies are paid for by junk-food manufacturers, the sentiment holds true. People want a cheap government. They are getting the cheapest form of science in return. It has nothing to do with attitude or conspiracies. Governments are usually obligated to take the cheapest offer.
