- The creation of the Doctor's regeneration was a fantastic technique to continue the series. In a behind the scenes bonus feature, learn how the now-famous story arc stared life. Great clip from The Krotons DVD Boxset, available now!

I would've loved to be in the booth watching them film the regeneration on the monitors... just imagine all that set-up time and jocularity, just for a few seconds that turned out to be historic for "Doctor Who". :-)
The show's writers didn't coin the term "Regeneration" until Pertwee's last story in 1974. Then the Doctor's Gallifreyan mentor "K'anpo" is the first character to actually use it.
That's not fair about the new series not being doctor who. I can't change your mind about liking the classic series more for me the new series brought me into doctor who. I hadnt even heard of it before I saw my first episode so how many more people would have known about it. It's brought fans such as myself to the classic series and I'm proud that it has been going so long and that it's one big culture in people's hearts
Already this is my favrouite special feature of the year so far
Ive always wanted to know about what it was like on set that day for the 1st regeneration. Very interesting,I''ll be getting the DVD asap, love the 2nd doctor.
Anneke looks absolutely marvelous!
A nice insight into regeneration. I find the concept of it fascinating. :)
if so then i look forward to going back. i love the current series and was already eager to restart from the very beginning.
People say if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it
Congrats.
I think these big announcements of the next Doctor spoil the whole thing giving the show a sort of EastEnders chave element, not to mention the fact that it defeats the who point of regeneration that gave the element of surprise back in the day when the whole show was sworn to secrecy why not just tell us the plots before they happen?
Mike Gordon I know this is from two years ago, but I feel inclined to say something still:
Modern technology means there's more ways to leak information, say a picture or digital video.
It's much better if the new actor is announced in an official statement via program then it being leaked by Gavin, the sound man on Twitter.
Enjoyed this video. If you do not mind, I will "Add To" my site for more people to enjoy. I myself, watched from the 1st Episode, at the time, as is mentioned, nobody outside the "B.B.C.", knew anything about this.
I was unfair to "P.T." for some time, as I was very young & did not know "W.H." was ill. Though , I grew to enjoy his portrayal & as we know, they did it to me again. Though, now aged 11yrs, I took to "Jon Pertwee" straight away, accepting it, as part of the show. :) (I don`t think, they even explained at the end of the episode.)
Love anneka
... then, if the series carries on past the next two doctors, the writers get together and work out a way to give the Doctor more lives...
Done!
How can I get the full version of the theme arrangement that's in the end of this vid?
Where's the version of the theme that's in the end of the video from?
no its missiong 1 episode the last one infact so we have 3/4
i know
Mts1977 it's because the tenth planet (regeneration story) is lost apart from one episode
😎
i thought it was william hartnell's idea to have patrick troughton take over
He recommended him to the staff.
@HowlingSnail No he didn't. Hartnell approved of their choice, but didn't recommend Troughton. Get your facts straight before commenting.
jhibbitt1 no he approved of him.
Wow, you're a very pleasant person.
Like the idea of the show beeing endless due to the regenerations...or wait.... I heard somewhere the Doctor can only regenerate 13 times...then what?
I agree with the comments about how they all look the same now. What is really disappointing is that it gives the Doctor a god-like character. It is way over the top. Then again, so has most of the new production. One reason I stopped watching about a year ago or so. The re-generation should be subtle, subtle as a cicada emerging as an adult.
I think it depends on the ratings and if the Beeb is making enough money off it. They will find an excuse to make the Doctor live forever.
they should call him dr. when, not dr. who. yes! that's true!
first
wow Rob Shearman's comments just prove how shallow fans can be.
Actually, he's only Doctor.
Think that lady's sliding her hands on top of each other enough?
The modern Dr Who is complete junk. I watch each episode once, then feel no desire to ever watch it again.
Doctor Who always had a gay agenda. They were just more subtle about it.
What complete and utter rubbish.
