- I've been developing this Ficus burtt-davyi (Veld fig) since Aug of 2019 and today I'm preparing it for it's first club show!
These trees are strangler Figs from Southern Africa and they put out a lot of aerial roots and are fast growers.
The species was named in honor of the botanist Joseph Burtt Davy, who worked in South Africa between 1903 and 1919.
He is commemorated in the genus name Burttdavya and in numerous specific epithets including Aloe davyana, Acacia davyi, Hibiscus burtt-davyi and Ficus burtt-davyi.
Ficus burtt-davyi is typically a lax shrub occurring in coastal scrub or thicket, that becomes a robust creeper in inland forests and a small multi-stemmed ‘rock splitting’ shrub in the drier Karoo region.

Bonsai yang menarik Pak, sangat menginspirasi
A beautiful species. Produces some of the finest ramificatio and leaves reduce to miniature proportion. Love it.

Always great to watch your show preparations and the supporting narrative...Thanks for sharing...
For all its worth, the lion looked very natural.
Hi Nigel
I believe it is unlikely I will make it to the KW show this year. I'm in Toronto for the weekend for a music festival.
For the show, I think a smaller pot would be better
For me small elephant or cheeta works best 🐘🐆
