Showcase Wednesday - Them Mushrooms (2020)

One of East Africa’s most prolific music groups. Them Mushrooms is a family ensemble made up of the Harrison siblings who gained popularity in the 1980s with their emblematic ‘Kenya Hakuna Matata’ song. Over the years, the band has travelled extensively and has around 15 albums to their name. The band plays a cocktail of genres including Zele, Chakacha and Benga.

On a cold winter night, in a secluded area of Heston neighbourhood in London courtesy of COVID 19 curfew, I stumbled on this treasure- Them mushrooms. Memories are made of this. Beersheba, mtopanga, toa tu gawe loh. Salute to whoever uploaded.
