I personally feel it's more badass to just clear the room as fast as possible instead of trying to go for an s rating, but very impressive nonetheless

This game has far and away the best thug-chatter of the entire series.

@keegzilla_da_gamer bruh City is way better though. Origins while amazing is really just Arkham City 1.5

This game was better than people gave it credit for. I think it was a matter of inflated expectations. Arkham Origins was never really a game in the same way that City and Asylum were. It was never meant to be. What it was was a deluxe, full-length expansion, which to my mind, is just as good, and certainly worth full sticker price. If one thinks of it as a mega-expansion, it's amazing. It adds twice the size to the map, a full-length new main quest, multiple new additions to combat and stealth, and vastly improves on Arkham's mediocre boss fights.
To my mind, it's Arkham Knight and Gotham Knights that feel underwhelming, for the same reasons this game was complained about. Origins felt like the last hurrah for the excellent Arkham game design. Arkham Knight felt like it just further bloated out that same design, instead of reinventing it. It was Arkham Asylum but bigger, but not necessarily better. And the new elements that Arkham Knight added in, the Batmobile specifically, just didn't have the same inspired magic that Arkham Knight's fighting and stealth systems had. It just wasn't delicious to play, didn't really reward increasing skill, never felt truly fun. In the marketing campaign language, I "felt like Batman" until I got behind the wheel of that thing, and then, not so much.
I haven't played Gotham Knights, but from what I've seen and read, it just didn't distinguish itself from the Arkham games. The combat doesn't look terrible, but it doesn't look amazing. Even highly skilled players don't make it feel delicious, the way your mastery here makes Origins feel. Knights feels grindy, like a never-ending chore. It seems like a game of chipping away at health bars rather than engaging enemies, ticking off checklists rather than exploring the world. Montreal were developing a sequel for 8 years, but this game was clearly developed in less than two. From all the reviews, it's just not polished, not balanced, not refined. It's not a game, just a collection of mechanics tossed into a game engine.
I feel like the Arkham games have had their day. I don't know if Rocksteady will capture lightning in a bottle again with Suicide Squad, but I'm not optimistic. I'd love to see someone come along and reinvent the superhero game again with a new Batman game, but this time, make it a fully immersive RPG, where you play both Batman and Bruce Wayne, and engage Gotham as a city with crime, and not just a playground full of enemies and collectables.
