    So many people in my neighborhood love having the mulch volcano around trees on their property and surprisingly some have “professional” landscapers.

    Just watched your video and it couldn't have shown up on my TH-cam page at a better time! I planned to mulch tomorrow but rain is forecasted for tomorrow and next day, so guess it will have to wait. I'm a rookie with mulching, so your video was right on time and VERY helpful and will prevent me from making serious mistakes. Thank you so much!

    This is great, simple advice. Especially rule 3 which will help build soil over time. I practice sheet mulching so my mulch depths start off much deeper but the mulch is a lot fluffier than bark/wood mulch (mostly straw) I will implement #3 this season when I reapply my mulch :)

    • @CTSCAPER
      @CTSCAPER  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I mulch a garden for the first time I'm closer to 3" as well. That's the one time I go 'heavy' to choke out weeds. It sounds like that's what you do with sheet mulching too. Atleast once a year I come across a garden with around six inches of wood mulch in it and that's just no good for your landscape. Thanks for commenting.

    Thank you so much! I appreciate skilled people who are willing to share their knowledge. Can I ask you what if anything you use to keep weeds from coming through the mulch? Tarp? Weed killer? If so, how concerned are you about existing plants? Also, when you apply pine straw, do you generally apply over established straw or do you rake out old straw that is covered with leaves? I'm just now getting started good in the business after teaching 17 years and I enjoy the outside work so much more! Thank you again, John!

    I have heard this before of only going about 2-3 inches deep with mulch into your flowerbeds. Hearing it from another pro sounds refreshing because some gardeners either lay too much on or not enough. The 2nd tip was definitely great to learn because that's a mistakes I've made before. Thanks for the tips John.

    that tree piled that high with mulch made die a little bit inside lol. Great info!! and beautiful looking work with those landscapes
    Another good tip is to keep the wheel barrel close to the bed so you're not spilling on the lawn with every scoop.
    Also edging before mulching for aesthetics, and so you don't have to be as careful when flattening it out near the edge of the bed.
    Moral of both: don't get mulch on the grass

    I wanted to comment on how much I appreciate your videos. I just bought a house last year, and the landscaping had not been well maintained. Due to my budget limitations with the new house, I am trying a DIY approach to re-landscaping my yard. I have been relying on your videos, like this one, to help make sure that I am doing it correctly and not making many common mistakes that people make. Plus, I live in Connecticut, so the plants and products you use relate to my needs.
    Thanks again!

    Hi, Great Video with useful tips. I had one quick question though. Does the rate of decomposition of the mulch depend on whether I put a fabric or Newspaper underneath? Will I be re-mulching lot more often if I put newspaper underneath instead of fabric? And what frequency-every 2 yrs or 3yrs? I know newspaper is better than fabric for the soil. I like the look of mulch but just need some help since I do not want to keep spending on mulch every year and instead maybe spend a little more right now and put lava rock or something to block the weeds. Please help.Thanks
