Of ALL the individuals on TH-cam with demos about making ambient music, this one is by far the BEST of them all. It’s a great launchpad for me as I’ve been looking for ways to create music tracks for guided meditation programs. Thank you so much! Subscribed! It would have been even better to have this session available as a free download as a teaser for your course.
Hi Jim, appreciate your kind words on my content. The meditation project sounds fun! I think it’s good for people to try the process themselves, to learn how to make the sounds. And also use their own unique melodic material (notes). But, I will arrange so this project is available as a download. 🎅 There are quite a few episodes available freely from the Logic Pro course as teasers if you look in the ”episodes” tab at my marketplace store.morningdewmedia.com/products/logic-pro-for-beginners-course 😃
Hello, this tutorial is really helpful and I love your tutorials. What would be your approach if you have to pan the whole track in quadraphonic or binaural? thanks
I'm sorry but I don't currently work with quadraphonic / binaural mixes these days. I did a surround sound live show like 15 years back, but with Cubase / Nuendo at that time. But there are great tools for moving sounds in different speaker setups (and surround reverbs / processing) in Logic Pro.
Yeah I really don’t ever use the EFM1 synth since ages back, but it’s really the most simple and effective plugin to use for a working ambient pad. Couldn’t get a quicker workflow than this 😂🎉🥁 Glad u like the video! 🎸
Indeed, haha maybe because Im from that era. 😂 Anyways, anything goes as long as it works. Its just FM, could have used anything. But this is a very quick way into that sound. The goal 💎😄👌
This was amazing. The use of Logic stock sounds very impressive. I loved the reverb presets. Arpeggiator Im noticing has many hidden tricks. Can you do one with ambient vocals?
It's just the track name, the actual patch I do mention at: th-cam.com/video/7haUyEm3DPk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=A5Bo7i1Q8gU4mrSm&t=629 It's a Alchemy patch called "Air Choir Sweep". ;) Did you find it?
hello, i know how to make music in logic, however i think you have a much broader knowledge. does the course makes send for me? or is the main part only basic stuff? thx in advance for your reply :)
Hi, I can highly recommend my course. Because even if you know how to make music. There are always faster ways (and other ways) to achieve things and probably a lot of stuff you don't know. It's a great all rounder course. And you can always ask questions in the course app if you get stuck or want something clearified. 🍿
Awesome, You need to activate automation write (latch) in order to record automation. It ’s above the volume fader of the track ( inspector panel). Reads ”read” by default 😄 enjoy 💪🥁☕️
Hi! I wouldn't call myself an expert in logic pro. But how can I find the instruments of Air Choir Sweep or Gritty Drone Bed? I cannot find it in my, maybe, basic library set. Thanks for video anyway!
Air Choir Sweep (is an Alchemy preset) and it is within the Logic stock library. I can check which ”soundpack” its in. But this is just a general tutorial, you could use another similar sound preset to achieve similar but not exact copy of what I did. Ill be back 😃
@@MattiasHolmgren Oh. I did not back then, maybe because of the space it would use on drive. I could've guess that it's the case... Thanks for an advise. So you had it normally there when installing all content. Thank you for an nice tutorial and fast response!
Thanks so much for an awesome video. Two questions: 1. How do you automate the wheel you were moving in the first step? It seems like you are not moving it manually every time you press play. I have the controller assigned to my keyboard but I don't know how to 'record' it. 2. For the wash piano, I swear I have the exact same settings as you but the sound is so gentle even if I have the channel volume higher than you did. It doesn't have any attack. The only thing I can see is that the bit that says 'sampler' is highlighted green, for you it is not. What could it be? Maybe it's not necessary to be so exact, but I have no idea what I'm doing with these settings! 😆
Click the ”instrument” button on an empty aoftware instrument track. It might already contain ”EL Piano” plugin, but you can replace it by clicking on the ”name”.

Awesome! Thank you! Happy to hear people like this little ambient nod!
Thanks - I was baffled by that synth, but this got me to open it up!
Hey Luke, Glad I could help! Happy to hear from you! 😄🎹
Works great on logic pro for ipad too. Thx
nice video thx we need more video like this of logic
😄🎉 thanks, glad u like the format of this video. It’s been on my mind for quite some time. ☕️🥁
Oooh ive been wanting to make ambient music like this for a while :)
Awesome, I'll probably make a few more episodes like this! Very fulfilling music! 🙏Thanks!
This is so smooth ❤
Brilliant lesson. I will keep this for reference to help with my mixing which at the moment is pretty bad. Thanks again!
Excellent, happy to inspire! 😃🎉🥂
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks so much! But... I could not find "Ambient Arp" under the Retro Synth.
Hi thanks, did u install all factory content that comes with Logic Pro?
I'm just going to copy that diretly it sounds so good
Wonderful! ;)

Great video! Often I forget about how great the built-in synths are in Logic. Nice work Mattias!

I am amazed that the EFM1 is getting used in 2024..
its one of the legacy E-Magic synths

Glad you liked it! Ambient vocals. 😋 You mean like "how to setup a good processing chain for ambient vocals"?
@@MattiasHolmgren channel strip settings would be great. as well as an actual vocal demo in a production. thank you
Nice video Mattias.I love Retro Synth, I really enjoyed it! I'm still waiting for your video on external hardware effects on Logic 👍
Ill bump it in prio list. 👌thanks
I couldn/t' find "Ambient Arp" under the Retro Synth (is this a "stock sound" or something I have to set up?)
adding distortion to this'd go hard
Haha yeah
Hi Mattias.
I can't find any of the stock sounds. Do you have any idea of why? My version of Pro Logic is 10.7.9.
Thanks in advance,
Frans
I did a video on installing the sound content.

I can't find any of these Ambient sounds in Logic pro v 11.1. What am I missing?
Did you install all sound content that comes with Logic pro?
@@MattiasHolmgren Everything is installed in the sound library.
Such a great video- thank you. May I ask, when I record the EFM1 with my wheel assigned, it's not recording it with the automation. Why would this be?

Yeah you can always use an external disc for the stock library of Logic. Which is a sweet solution if you have limited storage onboard.
That would be great!
The genre is called dreamscape
Oh yeah 👌

1. Activate ”Latch” automation recording, that will make sure any controller movement (that sends midi cc) gets recorded.
Thank you
thank you, Darling! i am so dumb, but i got it , thank youuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!

how do you add the efm1 pad?
Click the ”instrument” button on an empty aoftware instrument track. It might already contain ”EL Piano” plugin, but you can replace it by clicking on the ”name”.
