Now I don't have any good theories on the Franklin Badge but I have to say that from what I think is that Flint went on his own adventure with the badge and used it before he met Hinawa and had his kids. So that could be the reason why it's rusty and... smelly.
Huh, that does sound pretty cool when ya think about it! In my own personal canon, I like to believe this Franklin Badge is the same throughout all three games.

A bit late, but I have a Franklin badge keychain on my bookbag. When it gets tough I hug my bookbag and look at the Franklin badge, to say the least, it gives me hope.

Might of missed it here, but the whole reason its called the "Franklin" Badge, is because its suppose to have belong to Benjamin Franklin and helped him survive getting struck by lightning when he flew his kite.

Awesome video! I've always loved the Franklin Badge because of how out of place it is with all the "normal" items in the game, as you noted.
I feel like the Franklin Badge is symbolic of something, but I can't quite think of it. Part of me wants to say it has something to do with protecting the protagonists, and how in each game the Franklin Badge is inherited from another character, but the 2nd Franklin Badge in Mother 1's Duncan Factory makes me think otherwise!
I'd have to agree with ya! I love the idea of the Badge being passed down over time, but I guess the second badge throws it a bit off, haha. Oh well, in my own personal canon, that's how it goes 😅

If I'm correct, you can actually obtain two Franklin Badges in Mother. The second being in the factory you explore with Lloyd. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. XD I remember having two. (It was the translated GBA version of Mother 1+2)

it's there so you can have both ana and ninten holding one so u can revive lloyd/teddy and not game over constantly from pk beam gamma
That was a lot of fun! Your editing is getting better and better and I may end up borrowing some techniques from you...but yeah, another winner from Bee, no doubt.
And going back to the ending of Mother 3 just made me sad...but that's okay. I really need to go back and replay the trilogy, it's been a while.

I do think that we also REALLY need it in Earthbound Beginnings to deflect the lethal PK Beam γ back at the Starman Jr.
May I point out the similarities in the word Hinawa and words like Hinata, and Himawari Which refer to "a sunny place" and "sunflowers" and that there are also sunflowers growing around where Hinawa's grave is.
You could have said "Franklin Badge + Lightning = Very Very Frightening"

y'know, itoi intentionally didn't put anything in mother 3 to deny flint was a descendant of ness, so it must be the same franklin badge as the one in earthbound. at least if that flint theory is true. dunno about the multiple franklin badges in mother 1 though.

(In the Mother Universe) the Franklin Badge protecting Ben Franklin during his 'flying a kite in a thunderstorm' experiment isn't THAT far fetched… (It's always been my head canon) considering (here, in the real world) it's believed that everyone who's tried that 'stunt' since then LITERALLY got fried.
Carpainter's lightning being a lethal attack has no bearing on the fight beyond what it does to Carpainter himself, considering you can't even engage him without the Franklin Badge. If you try without it, Carpainter's lightning that he sends at you before the fight knocks Ness out, after which he wakes up outside, having been thrown out of the church while he was out.
Interesting that Claus was no longer immune to instant death once he took off his mechanical enhancements. It isn't too often boss characters are given reasons for being immune to status effects.

I remember my 1st playthrough of the original Mother. I had no idea there was more than one Franklin badge. :((( If I'm remembering right, you can find one for most, if not all, of your party!
there are only 2 in the first mother likely to make the game "easier" because most enemies mid-late game have PK beam γ

Maybe, ultamitely, the Franklin Badge did protect the ones we hold closest in the end? In Earthbound Beginnings, it protected Pipi. In Earthbound, it protected Paula. And, in Earthbound three... All of the party was defeated by the dreaded lightning in one hit. They were not Lucas's true closest ones. His closest person was Claus. Who, was ultamitely protected by the Franklin Badge.
Protected from the pain and trauma he'd endured if he'd continued living.

It was left out in the US localization but Mr Carpainter was gonna sacrifice Paula to bring about the goddess of the Happy Happy Religion because he was so warped by the Mani Mani Statue. In fact MOTHER 2 was much darker but EarthBound censored a lot of dialogue and removed copyrighted material. If you want to play a version of Earthbound that’s translated closer to its Japanese counterpart y’all should check out MaternalBound Redux. A romhack that translates the game to be closer to the original MOTHER 2 along with a few other sweet changes like unique overworld sprites for every enemy type in the game, a run button and more

Fawful's Galaxy I always prefer to play without items. I'm not good at the game or anything and I don't play competitively, I just prefer no items. My friends on the other hand, they just put all the most OP items on lol

I wonder if it's possible that Flint is actually Ninten, think about it. His kids both have psi abilities and while he doesn't that could just be from them being erased/blocked when he was brought to the Nowhere Islands, plus his wife, Hinawa has red hair just like Ana from Mother 1, also he has a scarf/neck bandana just like Ninten. Not to mention him having the Franklin badge which is the most obvious hint
1. Lucas and Claus got their PSI from the Magypsies. For all we know, PSI is not hereditary.
2. Mother 3 takes place at least 1,000 years after Mother 2, which is about a decade after Mother.
3. Ana has blonde hair, just like Paula.
Actually, it was originally known as the Courage Badge, Ben Franklin found it later on and named it after himself.

Will you cover Mother: Cognitive Dissonance? It's a fan made Mother game made to tie in the events between Mother 1 and 2, and has you playing as the aliens for a change. There is even a character that is the brother of Giegue, who dresses like Ninten due to the connections between Giegue and Ninten in the first game, I think.
