Original GoW trilogy was so amazing. I've never gotten the chance to play the new GoWs yet, so this is still Kratos to me. It's still very bizarre to me that there's a whole generation of gamers to whom Kratos is bearded, wields an axe, and fights Nordic gods...
Having played both eras for the first time within a few months of each other, I think the Norse era is far and away the better story and overall era. The Greek era has a level of nostalgia that brings it up, despite them being good games in their own right. But in comparison to the Norse era, the Greek story doesn’t hold up nearly as well. Obviously this is just my opinion though.
I would play the old ones but the graphics are bad and I have never played a game with fixed camera angle so it doesnt really appeal except for the story.

God of War franchise is the only game I replayed multiple times in multiple different difficulties and I'm not one to replay narrative games which is why it's the only one. I just love God of War so much man

I recently went through a platinum run on all the god of war games and I’m currently on 4, gow 1 challenge of the gods was by far the worst trophy, for me personally, in the series, and the crazy thing is, for me it was only challenge 10 out of 10 that put up a fight, I clocked in at 7 hours and 47 minutes with 208 attempts. I wanted to strike someone.
They were really cool at the time for sure, we were not that far removed from voiced cutscenes first becoming a common thing in games so having a bit of control over them was dope. Them being done well in God Of War is basically the reason why so many games used them to the point of exhausting the idea.
If only the remasters got a ps4 version since the only way to play on modern hardware is to play on ps3 or use ps now which just absolutely sucks. If you can emulate it then great it’d prolly run better on a emulator
@@sigma1932 cause PCs are much more readily available and ps2 emulators run pretty well on anything. Provides higher framerate and resolutions. It’s overall a much better experience
To be fair i played all of the GoW games after playing 2018 way back when on PS Now and it worked pretty well. The lag wasnt really noticible and the buttons all registered while playing on not such great internet
Same, I played GOW 2018 on psnow for the first time and after enjoying it, I also completed all of the other ones. The lag wasn't that bad, although I sometimes crashed out of the game because of an unstable connection
I remember a couple years ago cloud streaming Red dead redemption before the sequel and it’s was a horrendous experience but I wanted to beat it again before RDR2. Probably made playing RDR2 for the first time even more satisfying😂😅

Having played both the PS2 original and "tried" to stream GOW on ps+ premium I can say with absolute clarity that this is a streaming issue as GOW plays like a dream on PS2 by comparison, In addition I tried playing Dead Space 3 on PS+ premium and it is nearly unplayable. I think you just need incredibly fast internet speed in order to have a chance at being able to stream games on PS+.
That's why I keep my PS3 around, I live in a 3rd world country with pretty bad internet, if that's happening to you, imagine the less fortunate like me. Anyway, some clarifications, no, you can't use a PS3 disc on a PS5, but Sony let's you buy PS3 digital copies through the store using a PC and then download it to an actual PS3, if you want to play PS3 games seamlessly unfortunately you gotta get a PS3. PS, PS2 and PSP games you can download on a PS5. I haven't tested, but I suppose not, if you can access PS3 games in the classic catalog from a PS3, I'll check later, if any of you have any questions concerning PS3, games and access in 2022 feel free to ask, I'll answer for science sake
I disagree with old games needing to be a total reinvention for “modern audiences” because like modern doom and dmc5 stuck to its guns and they did extremely successful, while god of war strayed away from what it used to be, doom took what made it doom and built upon that and added more instead of a total reinvention
Yes but dmc didn’t release a game every 2-3 years. In other words god of war was having oversaturation. Imagine if we had dmc9? I’m not so sure each game would be so beloved.
@@morriganrenfield8240 I agree that there’s no doubt that god of war was going to eventually have saturation, but what made doom also a successful revival of an older franchise was that it evolved the gameplay, not reinvent it completely, while its going to eventually have to do something different, it should keep that same philosophy it always has, which is fast paced demon killing. It’s undeniable that modern god of war is successful, but I’m just saying that it doesn’t NEED a reinvention to be successful, not to say that modern god of war isn’t successful because the numbers speak for itself
It's weird that you've had such a bad experience with the streaming, because you obviously have to have a very good internet package and I have one that I would describe as intermittent pissing, yet I had next to no input delay compared to what you've experienced where it is nearly impossible to play.
Your talk about how a game franchise needs to evolve seems odd especially the part of how this doesnt appeal to modern audiences. I have seen many people replay God of War or simply other older games and still had a great time with it. I think most people are just annoyed that the playstyle heavily changed and stuff. Dmc5 was a new installment for the series that managed to stick more closely to its roots and it was still enjoyed by both fans and newcomers and it seems the same is for Bayonetta 3. Maybe also the pretentious tone of game journalists of how the series "finally grew up" is stupid and shows their unfamiliarity with the games. I am annoyed of the expectation that games werent seen up to par with movies as an entertainment media until they tried to replicate them. I like both games but for different reasons like the more gameplay focused nature of the old games while I like the well writen story in GoW 2018. But unlike many I do think 2018 had some flaws but I am not gonna take away more of your time reading my comment. It's still better than Ragnorak, even as a 2005 game. The progress we made to Ragnorak was like the world having Nokia phones to smart phones. Of course smart phones should be better in almost all eras. But the originality and content of that old technology is unmatched.
Ragnorak is fucking terrible. Atreus just telling you what to do holding your hand like you are the child, kratos is just not a bad ass anymore, there are a lot of woke elements and the pace of the game is awful. The only thing gowr did for me is make me boot up gow2 again so I could play a real game. And did kratos ever do anything solo in rangnorak? Like he really has to have his fucking hand held throughout literally the whole entire game no exaggeration because if for some rare instance when you didnt have atreus annoying ass or frays naggy ass telling u what to do every step of the way u had that head attached to u or one of those dwarfs. Kratos was never on his own the whole game. I assume spiderman 2 will be very similar to this shit as well super woke with someone or something holding your hand and switching to characters not named spiderman in a spiderman game.
I had such a hard time against the Hydra cuz the button mashing was broken. I tried so many times and then I just decided to beat them with out it(it took an hour).
I recommend getting yourself a blu ray drive and a copy of this game on the cheap and rip it to a format that rpcs3 can use and you could easily emulate this at 4k 60fps and actually enjoy the game in its original form but benefitting of course from the higher resolution and whatever tweaks you choose to run it with. There is for example if you have an updated version a way to make it true widescreen not the terrible cut off picture these games have on the remaster.

I don't know why you had this many issues with streaming. I recently played through God of War and ICO on PS Plus Premium and really had no problems. Maybe the input lag is a tiny bit higher but that's understandable. I was really surprised how well streaming worked for me. Can't wait to play more PS3 games. Button mashing wasn't hard for me but it was weird to mash R2.
I’m glad you made this video. I just finished this game last night on the second to hardest difficulty. I haven’t had such a hard time with a game in forever and I solely blame the input lag. It was so frustrating I don’t even want to play the next game

I’ve only ever played this game through streaming and I never had issues with input lag, but I did lose my connection many times when I lived in a student apartment complex and used their internet lol. Now that I pay for my own passable service, I haven’t had connectivity issues

I recently played the games for the first time and in gow 1 i ran into some issues but when i played gow 2 there was hardly any issues at all, it felt like i was playing the game on a ps3. Im running on College wifi btw so i guess its just different for everybody.
it's weird that Sony's streaming seems to have gotten worse. I replayed the entire series a couple of years ago on PS Now and I didn't have a problem with input lag. The only problem I encountered was an ocasional half second freeze every once in a while. I have a ps2 and the GOW games and didn't see the need to get them out of the closet
The PS5 only plays discs from PS5 and PS4. The PS4 only plays discs from PS4. The best set up for every generation of PlayStation discs is to have a disc version PS5 for PS5 and PS4 discs, and a first generation original fat PS3 for PS3, PS2, and PS1. Make sure you verify that the PS3 is the right model number because only a small amount of launch fat PS3 systems had backwards compatibility. They literally put a separate PS2 board in the PS3 rather than enabling emulation. This was obviously expensive so they quickly revised the system without the PS2 board to cut costs and increase profits, which disabled any backwards compatibility on every new PS3.
The real reason why they reworked the gameplay for modern g.o.w. Is that sony said no when they pitch the idea of the og gameplay and kratos himself and cory had to convince them with a the last of us type of story.
TH-cam does make a good point though, in that cartoons will inspire people to reenact what they've seen. I'll give an example. I was being chased by a lunatic who wanted to eat me. He went so far as to paint a fake tunnel in front of me, hoping that I would run into the wall and knock myself out. Now, because I knew what was going on, I just ran through the painted tunnel, as if it were real. This guy was so shocked that he tried following me, but HE ran into the wall. It gets better. As he was trying to get back up, from hitting the wall, a truck came FROM the tunnel he painted, and ran him over! You should've seen the condition he was in. He eventually got up and went home, but his stomach was flattened out completely, and had tire marks all over it. So TH-cam is just doing this to protect people from turning into fictitious video game characters, and jumping off cliffs that would result in them going back a little in time, to not jump off that cliff again. Also, I watched a video about Legend of Zelda, and now I have a running feud with some guy called Ganon.
I feel the newer GoW games lack the mobility, fluidity and scale of the older games. I miss the over-the-top action and absolute insanity the originals had. It wasn’t supposed to be taken seriously. It wasn’t trying to be deep or groundbreaking in its storytelling. People who referred to GoW 2018 as the franchise “maturing” completely missed the point of the originals. The newer games are still good fun though, don’t get me wrong there.
I’m 21 and I’m going to do my first play through of all the ones on psnow after I 100% Ragnarok. I feel like I need to see the full story of kratos play out

I just beat this for the first time yesterday and aside from the input lag, the most frustrating thing was how much backtracking you have to do. Follow your linear path all the way to the end, flip a lever, and walk allllllll the way back to the first room you started in, then take the 2nd path alllll the way down that and once you get to the end, grab the item you need and come alllllll the way back again. I felt like 50% of my playthrough was running back through an area I had already cleared.
While I can still find a lot to appreciate about Kratos' first foray, my fingers are still broken from trying (and failing) to complete the button-mashing QTEs required to take down some of those trash mobs. God of War 2 is thankfully much improved in this aspect. Edit: and this is on the physical copy of the game (PS3 GoW Collection). I have no doubt that the input delay from streaming would render certain QTEs a nightmare. It's BAD in GoW 1 to begin with.
Funnily enough, for the QTEs, one strategy that I only learned by the time I reached Hades that made the mashing QTEs a joke was to use my left index finger instead of any of my right fingers. A little clunky, but it made them a breeze and I have no doubt learning that made the final boss far more tolerable for me.
11:50 agree, but I think Sony mostly reworked GOW because of the huge success of Naughty Dog's games, specifically Last Of Us. I mean: a Grumpy old man, who has been through a lot, has to travel the lands with a child to accomplish a mission that is in some way linked to the child. While facing great dangers on their way, he grows attached to said child. Which game am I talking about? And yeah, Atreus is Krato's son, while Ellie was just some random girl to Joel, but both relationships were non-existent at the start. ALSO, not hating on the GOW remake, I love it to bits. Maybe I am just a bit salty because the PS5 is approaching a 1000 bucks and I don't want to spend this kind of money on a gaming console. It's been over 2 years Sony, come on!
huh, I played and beat Gow1 and 2 through ps plus via streaming without any issues. I did play them before the revamp they did last summer though. Maybe they changed something in the servers when they switched from PS Now to PS plus. To answer your question, you either need a ps2 or ps3 to play the game natively. Only way to play it on ps4 and 5 is via streaming. Same goes for Ascension. GoW3 can be downloaded and played on ps5, via ps4 back compat, since it got ported to ps4. There is another solution, if you have a powerful enough PC, but I can't speak to it anymore than that
That massive input lag is the exact reason I adamantly refuse to stream games. If they try to say an old game is on a modern system and it's only through streaming, then I consider that a fake way to play and it's still not available on modern systems
Playing the original God of War games via streaming is a horrendous experience. It's the issues with the streaming service and not the game itself. The original games themselves are still fantastic. Just get a PS3 if you're gonna revisit any of the original God of War entries.
That will be because you're playing it through streaming but i can understand why with Sony pushing the narrative that they can't figure out PS3 native support on PS5 even though they made the console, yes it would be a lot of work but they could figure it out with time (and yes i understand that it would take a lot of time and that they have their focus elsewhere but if you're going to offer PS3 support, it should be better and more optimised for the platform) It would be better to not have it at all if streaming is their solution, there's just too many downsides.
The button mashing is something that you have to learn. That being said, I honestly doubt it is possible to do via streaming. I think it is simply impossible to beat this game without having it installed... Especially the armored minotaur boss in Pandora's temple, where the analog rotation is on a very strict time window. A shame... It is a good game, but if streaming is the way new players discover it, they will rightly claim it is a bad game because it is literally impossible to beat. I also feel "I tried PlayStation streaming service" would be a better title for this video.
R2 was a button on the ps2, not a trigger, that’s why the qte’s probably feel weird along with the server issues. Also, I think you should try playing gow 3 on the ps4 since it got a proper port and you can judge the game overall, not just first impressions

In 2005 I was an 18yo boy, and in 2018 I was a 31yo man with 2 kids, and this series has consistently been exactly where it needed to be to have me dead to rights. Having said that, mashing R2 was always awful! Just awful!
Please just emulate the game through a PS2 emulator, you can not only crank up the resolution all the way to 4k, but it's also the most reliable way to play older games, because Sony doesn't care enough to properly preserve their older games.

That’s actually really strange, with The Force Unleashed I had awful input delay but while preparing for Ragnarök, GOW and GOW2 performed perfectly. Either way, unacceptable.
u can’t buy new ps3 games on the store but you can download ones you have already still. i luckily bought the god of war titles back in the day so i can still play them. he is right. the service lag makes this title very hard to play
You're right about people not liking these types of games anymore :(. Bayonetta 3 and Devil May Cry 5 both sport some of the best action combat on the market today, but since they are short games with mediocre stories, no one wants to give them a chance. I would love to see you do a video on DMC 5 btw :).

I personally think they are well worth the price of admission for what they offer. i have put in 100 hours in DMC 5 alone because of just how fun it is to play the game. But I can understand why some people would find it lacking if they wanted a longer game with some side content with a stronger focus on narrative.
If it takes a minute to load where you live (likely an urban spot) it'll take FOREVER where I live. I cannot justify a streaming gaming service at this point, and game streaming has been around for almost 10 years now!!!
Maybe try playing it while plugged in via USB. Dealing with internet to send and receive inputs while on a Bluetooth controller that sends and receive inputs doubles the middleman. USB connection could probably make inputs a tad more responsive
Blocking in first 3 GOW games was always a tad slow. It added to the need to hit and roll. All 3 games on ps2 were and still are excellent if you just give muscle memory time at the start. They dont take 5 hours to get started like modern games

The set pieces of the new duology is not as good as the original trilogy, it’s not remotely true. Especially the final act of ragnarok. The new games are amazing in what they do but the set pieces just are not. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t know how anymore, or because of the single take camera.
I love the new games, but the originals feel like they were made with a lot more passion and a focused idea of what the devs wanted the games to be. GOW 2018 was good but the rpg mechanics and less focused combat really brought down the experience for me. The cinematic flare was also really lost with the Norse saga; the battle of Athens in God of war 1 was more cinematic than any level in the Norse saga except the two big boss battles (Baldur and Thor)

I disagree with old games needing to be a total reinvention for “modern audiences” because like modern doom and dmc5 stuck to its guns and they did extremely successful, while god of war strayed away from what it used to be, doom took what made it doom and built upon that and added more instead of a total reinvention
Yes but dmc didn’t release a game every 2-3 years. In other words god of war was having oversaturation. Imagine if we had dmc9? I’m not so sure each game would be so beloved.

It’s undeniable that modern god of war is successful, but I’m just saying that it doesn’t NEED a reinvention to be successful, not to say that modern god of war isn’t successful because the numbers speak for itself
DMC 5 is definitely more casual compared to DMC 3. I rather them stick to the anime style of DMC. DMC 4 Dante was the coolest Dante to me

It's weird that you've had such a bad experience with the streaming, because you obviously have to have a very good internet package and I have one that I would describe as intermittent pissing, yet I had next to no input delay compared to what you've experienced where it is nearly impossible to play.

Your talk about how a game franchise needs to evolve seems odd especially the part of how this doesnt appeal to modern audiences. I have seen many people replay God of War or simply other older games and still had a great time with it. I think most people are just annoyed that the playstyle heavily changed and stuff. Dmc5 was a new installment for the series that managed to stick more closely to its roots and it was still enjoyed by both fans and newcomers and it seems the same is for Bayonetta 3. Maybe also the pretentious tone of game journalists of how the series "finally grew up" is stupid and shows their unfamiliarity with the games. I am annoyed of the expectation that games werent seen up to par with movies as an entertainment media until they tried to replicate them. I like both games but for different reasons like the more gameplay focused nature of the old games while I like the well writen story in GoW 2018. But unlike many I do think 2018 had some flaws but I am not gonna take away more of your time reading my comment. Instead Ill redirect you to a channel called Matthewmatosis and suggest you check out his God of War case study. In the end you enjoy what you enjoy. Nobody can take that away from you but yourself
It's still better than Ragnorak, even as a 2005 game.
The progress we made to Ragnorak was like the world having Nokia phones to smart phones.
Of course smart phones should be better in almost all eras. But the originality and content of that old technology is unmatched.
Ragnorak is fucking terrible. Atreus just telling you what to do holding your hand like you are the child, kratos is just not a bad ass anymore, there are a lot of woke elements and the pace of the game is awful. The only thing gowr did for me is make me boot up gow2 again so I could play a real game. And did kratos ever do anything solo in rangnorak? Like he really has to have his fucking hand held throughout literally the whole entire game no exaggeration because if for some rare instance when you didnt have atreus annoying ass or frays naggy ass telling u what to do every step of the way u had that head attached to u or one of those dwarfs. Kratos was never on his own the whole game. I assume spiderman 2 will be very similar to this shit as well super woke with someone or something holding your hand and switching to characters not named spiderman in a spiderman game.

I had such a hard time against the Hydra cuz the button mashing was broken. I tried so many times and then I just decided to beat them with out it(it took an hour).
I recommend getting yourself a blu ray drive and a copy of this game on the cheap and rip it to a format that rpcs3 can use and you could easily emulate this at 4k 60fps and actually enjoy the game in its original form but benefitting of course from the higher resolution and whatever tweaks you choose to run it with. There is for example if you have an updated version a way to make it true widescreen not the terrible cut off picture these games have on the remaster.
Yup, that's how I played the game. The GOW HD collection runs beautifully on RPCS3 and is imo the definitive way to play these games.

I don't know why you had this many issues with streaming. I recently played through God of War and ICO on PS Plus Premium and really had no problems. Maybe the input lag is a tiny bit higher but that's understandable. I was really surprised how well streaming worked for me. Can't wait to play more PS3 games. Button mashing wasn't hard for me but it was weird to mash R2.

I’m glad you made this video. I just finished this game last night on the second to hardest difficulty. I haven’t had such a hard time with a game in forever and I solely blame the input lag. It was so frustrating I don’t even want to play the next game
I hope you gave gow2 a shot, it's the best story line in the series imo. Also the button mashing mini games are much easier than the first game. I could barely do it on ps2 lol

I’ve only ever played this game through streaming and I never had issues with input lag, but I did lose my connection many times when I lived in a student apartment complex and used their internet lol. Now that I pay for my own passable service, I haven’t had connectivity issues
I played it on my ps5 and there was literally no input delay at all, it was genuinely a 10/10 experience for me.
I had it really really bad the first time I tried. Unplayable. And then I tried it again the next day and it was literally perfect

I recently played the games for the first time and in gow 1 i ran into some issues but when i played gow 2 there was hardly any issues at all, it felt like i was playing the game on a ps3. Im running on College wifi btw so i guess its just different for everybody.

it's weird that Sony's streaming seems to have gotten worse. I replayed the entire series a couple of years ago on PS Now and I didn't have a problem with input lag. The only problem I encountered was an ocasional half second freeze every once in a while. I have a ps2 and the GOW games and didn't see the need to get them out of the closet

The best set up for every generation of PlayStation discs is to have a disc version PS5 for PS5 and PS4 discs, and a first generation original fat PS3 for PS3, PS2, and PS1.
Make sure you verify that the PS3 is the right model number because only a small amount of launch fat PS3 systems had backwards compatibility. They literally put a separate PS2 board in the PS3 rather than enabling emulation. This was obviously expensive so they quickly revised the system without the PS2 board to cut costs and increase profits, which disabled any backwards compatibility on every new PS3.
The real reason why they reworked the gameplay for modern g.o.w. Is that sony said no when they pitch the idea of the og gameplay and kratos himself and cory had to convince them with a the last of us type of story.
The ps2 and ps3 version plays really well. It must be the streaming.

TH-cam does make a good point though, in that cartoons will inspire people to reenact what they've seen.
I'll give an example. I was being chased by a lunatic who wanted to eat me. He went so far as to paint a fake tunnel in front of me, hoping that I would run into the wall and knock myself out. Now, because I knew what was going on, I just ran through the painted tunnel, as if it were real. This guy was so shocked that he tried following me, but HE ran into the wall.
It gets better. As he was trying to get back up, from hitting the wall, a truck came FROM the tunnel he painted, and ran him over! You should've seen the condition he was in. He eventually got up and went home, but his stomach was flattened out completely, and had tire marks all over it.
So TH-cam is just doing this to protect people from turning into fictitious video game characters, and jumping off cliffs that would result in them going back a little in time, to not jump off that cliff again.
Also, I watched a video about Legend of Zelda, and now I have a running feud with some guy called Ganon.

I feel the newer GoW games lack the mobility, fluidity and scale of the older games. I miss the over-the-top action and absolute insanity the originals had. It wasn’t supposed to be taken seriously. It wasn’t trying to be deep or groundbreaking in its storytelling. People who referred to GoW 2018 as the franchise “maturing” completely missed the point of the originals. The newer games are still good fun though, don’t get me wrong there.

I just beat this for the first time yesterday and aside from the input lag, the most frustrating thing was how much backtracking you have to do. Follow your linear path all the way to the end, flip a lever, and walk allllllll the way back to the first room you started in, then take the 2nd path alllll the way down that and once you get to the end, grab the item you need and come alllllll the way back again. I felt like 50% of my playthrough was running back through an area I had already cleared.
While I can still find a lot to appreciate about Kratos' first foray, my fingers are still broken from trying (and failing) to complete the button-mashing QTEs required to take down some of those trash mobs. God of War 2 is thankfully much improved in this aspect. Edit: and this is on the physical copy of the game (PS3 GoW Collection). I have no doubt that the input delay from streaming would render certain QTEs a nightmare. It's BAD in GoW 1 to begin with.
Funnily enough, for the QTEs, one strategy that I only learned by the time I reached Hades that made the mashing QTEs a joke was to use my left index finger instead of any of my right fingers. A little clunky, but it made them a breeze and I have no doubt learning that made the final boss far more tolerable for me.

I mean: a Grumpy old man, who has been through a lot, has to travel the lands with a child to accomplish a mission that is in some way linked to the child. While facing great dangers on their way, he grows attached to said child. Which game am I talking about?
And yeah, Atreus is Krato's son, while Ellie was just some random girl to Joel, but both relationships were non-existent at the start. ALSO, not hating on the GOW remake, I love it to bits. Maybe I am just a bit salty because the PS5 is approaching a 1000 bucks and I don't want to spend this kind of money on a gaming console. It's been over 2 years Sony, come on!

huh, I played and beat Gow1 and 2 through ps plus via streaming without any issues. I did play them before the revamp they did last summer though. Maybe they changed something in the servers when they switched from PS Now to PS plus.
To answer your question, you either need a ps2 or ps3 to play the game natively. Only way to play it on ps4 and 5 is via streaming. Same goes for Ascension. GoW3 can be downloaded and played on ps5, via ps4 back compat, since it got ported to ps4. There is another solution, if you have a powerful enough PC, but I can't speak to it anymore than that

That massive input lag is the exact reason I adamantly refuse to stream games. If they try to say an old game is on a modern system and it's only through streaming, then I consider that a fake way to play and it's still not available on modern systems
Playing the original God of War games via streaming is a horrendous experience. It's the issues with the streaming service and not the game itself. The original games themselves are still fantastic. Just get a PS3 if you're gonna revisit any of the original God of War entries.

That will be because you're playing it through streaming but i can understand why with Sony pushing the narrative that they can't figure out PS3 native support on PS5 even though they made the console, yes it would be a lot of work but they could figure it out with time (and yes i understand that it would take a lot of time and that they have their focus elsewhere but if you're going to offer PS3 support, it should be better and more optimised for the platform) It would be better to not have it at all if streaming is their solution, there's just too many downsides.
The button mashing is something that you have to learn. That being said, I honestly doubt it is possible to do via streaming. I think it is simply impossible to beat this game without having it installed... Especially the armored minotaur boss in Pandora's temple, where the analog rotation is on a very strict time window. A shame... It is a good game, but if streaming is the way new players discover it, they will rightly claim it is a bad game because it is literally impossible to beat.
I also feel "I tried PlayStation streaming service" would be a better title for this video.

R2 was a button on the ps2, not a trigger, that’s why the qte’s probably feel weird along with the server issues. Also, I think you should try playing gow 3 on the ps4 since it got a proper port and you can judge the game overall, not just first impressions

In 2005 I was an 18yo boy, and in 2018 I was a 31yo man with 2 kids, and this series has consistently been exactly where it needed to be to have me dead to rights.
Having said that, mashing R2 was always awful! Just awful!
Please just emulate the game through a PS2 emulator, you can not only crank up the resolution all the way to 4k, but it's also the most reliable way to play older games, because Sony doesn't care enough to properly preserve their older games.

I personally think they are well worth the price of admission for what they offer. i have put in 100 hours in DMC 5 alone because of just how fun it is to play the game.

Maybe try playing it while plugged in via USB. Dealing with internet to send and receive inputs while on a Bluetooth controller that sends and receive inputs doubles the middleman. USB connection could probably make inputs a tad more responsive

Blocking in first 3 GOW games was always a tad slow. It added to the need to hit and roll. All 3 games on ps2 were and still are excellent if you just give muscle memory time at the start. They dont take 5 hours to get started like modern games
I love that some people try to understate just how good the back-compat program is on Xbox when we have shit like this. Cause sonys game streaming has been horrendous and sadly the only option for these titles

The set pieces of the new duology is not as good as the original trilogy, it’s not remotely true. Especially the final act of ragnarok. The new games are amazing in what they do but the set pieces just are not. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t know how anymore, or because of the single take camera.
If your outside of America and want to play the old god of war games you’ll have to buy a ps3.
I love the new games, but the originals feel like they were made with a lot more passion and a focused idea of what the devs wanted the games to be. GOW 2018 was good but the rpg mechanics and less focused combat really brought down the experience for me. The cinematic flare was also really lost with the Norse saga; the battle of Athens in God of war 1 was more cinematic than any level in the Norse saga except the two big boss battles (Baldur and Thor)
