Laughing at your that's what she said joke in the middle of the haul 😂 I see a yakuza theme here lol. I just got vol 1 of the way of the house husband from a charity shop the other day so I'm looking forward to the fun of the series! I always hear about such new and interesting manga from you and its not great for my tbr wishlist but it is great for me hehe. The shelving section was so satisfying D:

I'm such a child, I love a that's what she said joke lol!! It was unintentional but yes quite a few of them are Yakuza based! Ahhh I hope you enjoy Way of the Househusband! It's such a fun one! Hahaha I'm sorry (but not really lol)! I did enjoying the shelving section even though I totally forgot to film 2 and I put two in the wrong place hahaha!

If you're interested, shoujo, josei, shonen and seinen only refer to the demografics of the japanese magazines where manga chapters come out and those terms so not reflect the content of a manga whatsoever. Genres do though. So if you for example say "I really like shonen manga", it doesn't mean anything. Are you talking about battle-shonen, romance shonen, gag shonen manga, sports shonen manga, horror shonen manga? The same as can be said about the other three demographics. Not all shoujo is romance, even though the majority of licenced shoujo in the west is. Also there are manga that can transfer to another magazine partway through their run, and so technically they have two demographics. Anyway, my point is it is really not helpful to use the demographics in the majority of cases. Since each demographic contains all genres that regular books have, there isn't a vibe that is specific to a demographic. Like, there is horror shoujo and fluffy romance seinen. For example, Skip and Loafer and Sweet and Soap are both seinen. Anyway thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

See this has always been my confusion because people are always describing it to me as shounen, shoujo etc which then confuses me! That's why when I watched that anime and saw it was classed as "shoujo" I was so confused because that's not what I thought it was. My friend was then explaining the the demographic thing and it made so much more sense. Like I did know it was a demographic but I didn't realise how broad the demographics were if that makes sense? This is why I'm trying to branch out my reading because for so long if I saw something described as shoujo I'd be like "oh I don't really read romance manga" and I just know I've probably missed out on loads of titles I would probably like because I saw them described as a certain demographic thinking that all that demographic was the same! I enjoyed your Ted Talk thank you!! I've only been collecting manga for a couple of years and feel like I'm learning all the time. I seriously wish i'd gotten into it earlier haha! I'm making up for lost time lol!

    Nice haul!
The Yakuza's Bias sounds interesting. I'm gonna need to look into that one. Have you tried The Geek Ex-Hitman? I thought volume 1 was very fun and it sounds like it could be a similar feel as The Yakuza's Bias.
Of course the Monochrome Manga Club is reading ID Invaded this month and I just heard for the first time a couple days ago about the fact that it occurs after the events of the anime. Oh well. We'll see what I think after reading the first volume.
I enjoyed the first volume of The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting. I really need to get back to that series - and Househusband to be honest. I read so many volume 1s for the manga club and I don't have enough time to continue everything!
I think I got Yokohama Station in the Light Novel. Sounded interesting ^-^

      Thank you!
It sounds fun doesn't it! I haven't heard of that one but that does sound up my alley!! I'll look it up!
I can't believe I never knew it was the anime first. I'm interested to see what you make of it. Looking forward to revisiting it once I've watched the anime and seeing if that fixes my confusion haha!
I'm excited for The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting! It sounds so fun. I really enjoy Househusband, it's such a nice little pallet cleanser!
I'm intrigued by Yokohama Station! It sounds like a really cool premise!

Backing up the other commentor on the demographic thing. Demographics can be helpful to a point as yes there will often be similarities in style or tropes. Like i will say i dont lean towards shonen so much these days as i got tired of weak girls, stupidly powered boys and pervy humour. All things that will interest teenage boys. But i do still pick up shonen every now and then as some are appealing.
If you do want to veer more into shoujo but dont really want romance? Servamp is very shonen like. Comedy action vampire series. But targeted at girls.
If you want josei then i think ive said before but Karneval. Stunning art, super dark with the 18+ rating likely being because of gore. Way more focused on friendship and found family.

I think the demographic thing can be confusing when you're getting into manga because in so many places things are categorised that way (same with anime as there are categories for them on Crunchyroll) and when the most popular titles in the category have a lot in common theme wise it can make it appear like everything in that category is like that, if that makes sense? So I feel like I've had a false idea of what it is all this time and now i'm branching out into other things, I'm realising that!
I will definitely look up Servamp that sounds fun!
Karneval is on my list (pretty sure it was from you!) It looks very good!!
