  • Energy poverty is a multifaceted issue that extends beyond income poverty. It refers to the inability of households to secure adequate energy services, including heating, cooling, lighting, and powering appliances. Detecting, measuring, and addressing energy poverty requires understanding regional variations, vulnerable groups, and the interplay of affordability and access. This is particularly important at a time when electricity and heat prices are already high, and in many countries, they are expected to rise even further after the cessation of temporary energy subsidies.
During this webinar, Paweł Gilewski of the Polish National Energy Conservation Agency (KAPE) provides an overview of how energy poverty is reflected in current energy efficiency policies and measures implemented in the EU Member States, based on the MURE database. The session will address questions such as: What strategies can policymakers implement to alleviate energy poverty? Why is energy poverty challenging to detect and quantify? How can low energy efficiency in dwellings exacerbate energy poverty? How does the availability of different energy sources impact energy poverty?
