Carol Harrison is my mum. She's the greatest, strongest and kindest woman I know. So proud to call her my mum! My dad Andrew Crowhurst who I'm also equally proud of is also one of the fire fighters in this documentary. He's the one who held Charlie when Carol was first introduced to the team. Its so cool to have actual footage of when your parents first met. They had a loving 20 year relationship and are still very good friends to this day. Charlie is doing well! he's got two beautiful children of his own now. xxxx
Jason Naylor she did actually and I know! The sexism and the racism is very disgusting!!! I hope those who participated in it look back on this documentary with a lot of shame
I was pregnant and had a child whilst I was on the fire service. I attended calls until I was about 8 months along and I returned to duty when my son was about 2 months old. Yes, it was hard. And also really good.
I’ve seen some crazy fires in my time as a volunteer life saver. I’ve also been burned by a camping stove from the shoulder to the elbow 2:nd degree burns it left a scar from that day.
@@Gencturk92 I hear you. It was a long time ago I was about 10-11 years old when it happened. I’m a professional driver when I’m not saving people but it’s a great feeling to save someone else’s life and that’s why I do what I do.
I couldn't disagree more. The hazards are the same but there is a massive difference in technique and approach between US firefighters and virtually every other modern service in the world.
Out of the academy and had only worked 3 shifts then off the job for 12 months? At the very least she should have been made to pass the physical test again and put back through the academy. This is peoples lives we are dealing with here, including the life of this single mum. Its no joke. Kudos to her attitude though and not expecting her fellow firefighters to change for her
Looked like the best days in the job. Before political correctness went over the top. Credit to Carol for getting in when she did. I bet the test was the same as it always was then. She should be extremely proud she done it the hard way. No special treatment. Not like today where government quotas and alterations to tests are made. This can often discredit people with people thinking they would never have been good enough otherwise. An some cases this may be true but not for all. I'm of the opinion the best person for the job should be employed. Regardless of race, religion, sex, age, sexual preference, height or weight. It should be a faceless process where you are assigned a number. You are then judged and shortlisted on your results. That is the most fair system that can be. The only people who have a problem with this are those that have an unfair advantage that isn't based on their merits.
With 12 days in the fire brigade she has no experience so full pay back to work and what is the baby doing in the station so up to now it has been all take take take l am sure they could manage without her a farce
Take take take ? Just because she is a firefighter doesn’t mean she forfeits the right to have a child. Who cares if she has no experience as a watch id be repulsed at the behaviour shown by some of them. She needed some of the watch not least the boss to support and guide her not berate her and shoot every drill she does to pieces. She went on to have a long career and no doubt made a better firefighter than you would.
@@swt2296 I can see his point though. I’m female and work as an emergency responder. I’m pretty annoyed at what she did. It’s because of one’s like her that the rest of us had such a hard time back in the day.
She was on 'light duties', common after long periods of sickness, leave and career breaks etc. You follow the watch and still carry out all the usual duties without riding an appliance and going to shouts. After a bit of time and enough drills the individual can then be signed off as fit to ride again and go back 'on the run'.
Mainly because she had been so long out of the job that she had to re train in breathing apparatus and safe movement etc. This can be the most dangerous part of the job if you don’t know what you are doing.
Mr Coe... In your first sentence about women in the fire service really didn't do LFB much justice in his conduct... The whole team in conversation were sexist, racist, chauvinistic and dam right horrible.. I know it was okay back then looking back now i think to myself LFB would have an eppy if they heard their staff let alone someone in charge of the brave fire service to be like that... The fire service is a wonderful service does so much for the community and we as a world are always proud of fire service however the odd off the cuff comment will look really bad on the service and brings the service into disrepute.

Did carol go on to have a fantastic career in lfb? I'm a serving FF in Suffolk and I can't believe that this sort of thing was the norm back then!

Hard to believe those ET's soldiered on until 1991. Surprised LFB didn't replace them long before. Classic looking vehicle design though

in a single day how many emergency calls do firemen receive in a single area alone ? imagine being on a shift and not one single call comes in

Wonder what happened to the suspended firefighters?

You can't fault them after Leroy's story about his first night when Hamish died.
Listening to some of these comments about Carol, especially the S.O, are shocking. Just shows how equality has come on since the 90s
