Water is supposed to get misted into the mix, witch hazel is a better choice because it has less water content. But for future reference and people who want to make bath bombs, isopropyl alcohol will do the best. Any strength has low water content and the liquid evaporates as it dries so you have less chance of activation during the making process.

Hi, as someone who also lives in NC I can tell you less is more when it comes to your binding agent (the water) and these were too wet, thats why the mix activated. Try spraying your water into your mix until you get the right consistency. Also, if the mix does activate try adding more dry ingredients to counter the moisture :)
One technique I saw that worked REALLY REALLY WELL with this press was mixing ONLY the baking soda and liquids in a kitchenaid stand mixer, THEN adding the citric acid by hand. And after a few presses when it gets too dry, spraying it with witch Hazel or alcohol. Also making sure humidity in the room was lower than 40%. I saw Royalty Soaps do it that way and it worked like a dream.

A video on making your favorite Bramble Berry scents into pound cake. Pick the scents that you're most tempted to bite into & try to replicate the flavor as a baked pound cake so it looks like a soap slice. You could even make multiple colors of batter.

The idea that the citric acid is the “activator” is not correct. It’s only when all *three* key ingredients combine! No one by itself is an activator. Citric acid + baking soda + water = FIZZZ 🌋 It’s just like the old vinegar and baking soda science fair volcano - except swap the vinegar for citric acid (then add water for reaction to begin). So, if water is added to citric acid alone, there would be no fizz. Same with baking soda. Need the acid + base + water.
If you mixed a bunch of diff little cups of dry mix with their own dyes then sprinkled them on top of the mound before pressing, that would have worked for the sprinkles effect you were going for on the pop tart one!
My grandkiddos and i made bath bombs for Christmas gifts one year with little plastic wrapped jewlery in it for their mom and cousin who both wanted certain rings We didnt use any water in our bombs but used melted cocoa butter and melted coconut oil. It stablized the mix better and we got beautiful sharp bombs (we used a snowflake soap mold) But my daughter told us to not use so many lavender flowers as they were a mess to clean out of yhe tub . We also made citric acid and baking soda tablets for cleaning toilets. But they cleaned better if you added a cup of white vinegar in the bowl first, cleaning wise
Okay, so some expensive bath bomb ingredient ideas: Pure Bulgarian rose essential oil saffron Jasmine oil arginine white truffle Helichrysum italicum essential oil gold If you do end up making this, maybe send out the excess mix to us poors, because a skin serum like that would cost at least $400 xD
Maybe that frankin bath bomb might've been better if the different scented bases was added separately [instead of mixing them all up] into the mold.. the end product could have been multi coloured and multi scented...
Multiple questions: Are there oil based colors that wouldn't activate the Citric? Can you sift the citric acid into the other dry's or add it first so that when you pour it won't activate? Also, did the pill get covered in oil and can't actually reach the water? And what if you got a dehumidifier?

So it would be like spray/mix/spray until you get the right consistency. It needs to be much drier than that... but I very much enjoyed watching anyway!
