I don't bead but saw the bead spinner in the craft store the other day and wondered what it was. Curiosity led me to your video and I must say, a it is a wonderful video. Crystal clear explanation and demonstration, thank you.
Hi Ian... Welcome to my little channel all the way from South Australia! Bead Spinners are fab - I don't do much beaded crochet/ loom work etc... - but I use mine extensively for french beading...
This was great. I have a spinner and curved needle but was having trouble figuring out how to get it to work right. This showed me exactly what I was doing wrong, and how to do it right. Thanks
That's fascinating! I have never seen something like that! I usually use 8mm and up beads so I'm not bothered with stringing, but looks like a gem! Thank you for the tutorial!
Brilliant! I've been looking into bead spinners and saw a lot of people frustrated with the learning curve and saying they break a lot of the curved needles that come with the kits while they're still learning. I think I'll use some of my extra jewelry wire like you demonstrated here while I'm figuring out the technique and then switch to the needles once I know what I'm doing.
I’m a little confused. Because the jewelry I makes is with either a plastic string or wire string so I’m confusing how you would get beads on something like that? Or does this only work for a wire?
Hi Tammie - no it doesn't only work with wire but as I mentioned that's what I use it for, when I'm making french beaded flowers - so that is what I was demonstrating. Most of them do come with a needle - check the box before you buy - and you'll be able to thread your chosen beading thread onto that before wildly spinning and stringing your beads! ;-) x
So then the necklace is made out of that wire? Wont the necklace be still and bendy when put on? I'm sorry i don't understand, I wanna buy this but I'm confused
I'm demonstrating how to spin the beads directly onto wire in this tutorial. It's to be used with a technique called french beading which is used to create beaded, floral displays - I don't actually use this technique for stringing beads in order to make a necklace. If I was demonstrating for that purpose, for example bead crochet, I'd use the needle that comes with the bead spinner and I'd be spinning onto a thread rather than a wire. Hope that clears up the confusion...x
Hi Dawn I don’t think it would I’m afraid. Wire is rigid and therefore the beads “jump on” quite easily, but elastic is the complete opposite. I don’t see a way of using the elastic with the spinning needle either as you’d need to tie it on and then there’d be a knot that the beads wouldn’t be able to “jump over”.
Great video, first I’ve seen of yours and truly enjoyed it! Learned so very much from tutorial and found it to be very helpful. I’m now your newest subscriber 😊👍Thank you. I had never heard of a bead spinner until my 13 year old daughter told me tonight how badly she would like one, and then showed me videos posted on social media so I could understand what she was talking about lol. I noticed that the spinners are made of many different materials and come in numerous sizes. Would you mind recommending what I should look for when purchasing a bead spinner for the first time please? ❤️ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Shannon... welcome to my little beadie world and thank you for your lovely feedback! With regards a bead spinner... size isn’t really important, but I would go for a manually operated one rather than a battery operated one. So one that you have to twizzle, rather than one where you just push a button. This is do you have some control over speed when spinning. Mine are all wooden and I use 2 different sizes. Going for a slightly smaller one will mean you don’t need to add a number of tubes of beads to it to get it working properly... it should work easily with just one tube of beads. The bigger the spinner... the more beads you’ll need to use. Hope that helps with your decision making... good Luck...x
If you wanted your beads on a regular thread, you would use the spinner the same way, but use the needle that comes with it and you will have just popped your ordinary thread through the eye of the needle before hand....x
Hi Mallory…. I don’t think the type of wire you use is too much of an issue. But if you’re spinning beads directly onto wire you’ll want to use either a 0.4mm or a 0.6mm wire…x
Hi Liberty - I have a few, but the one I use the most is the Beadalon Spin a Bead Junior. They also have the plastic cups that sit inside the spinner enabling change of colour very easily... I use the spinner for French Beading most of the time - so I spin directly onto 0.6mm or 0.4mm wire. Hope that helps! xx
Hi - I think you get needles supplied with most spinners that are available on the market - however; in this demo I was showing how to spin the beads directly onto wire which I had shaped to resemble the needles that come as part of the kit.
Hi Julia... the technique I was showing was just straight spinning onto wire.... for things like french beaded flowers etc. Bead spinners do come with needles though and you can use the needle with your chosen thread to spin directly onto beading thread...x
Hi Havilah...a 10mm bead would be too big for a bead spinner. Bead spinners are used for seed beads (typically beads sized 1-3mm) when french beading or doing bead crochet.
Very cool. Maybe you should try making the end of the wire smaller by using a plier to cut off the edges so it might be easier for the beads to hook onto the wire?
Hi LucyMage…I’m afraid this demo was done to show how to spin beads straight into the wire specifically for the technique of French beading…I’ve not done one yet to show spinning into thread/nylon…x
I am trying to repair a vintage Dior glass bead necklace where the large faceted beads are threaded on black wire, each bead being individually wired, I have had to remove some beads because they were so badly damaged. The beads have been threaded with a single thread of wire, a loop made & then the wire is wrapped around the wire beneath the loop 2 or 3 times making a tight coil, clearly each bead was looped to the previous bead during construction, but I just can't wrap the wire around tightly enough, not helped by the wire having a black coating, can you give any advice?
It's so difficult to give you an answer without seeing what you're talking about. When I'm wrapping wire loops, I sometimes feel like my fingers are a) in the way and b) not strong enough to pull the wire tight. In this case I use a pair of pliers as an extension of my fingers - I can then get a better grip on the wire, making my wrapped loops much tighter and neater....x
Hi Natasha - the spinner is a beadalon product and I'm afraid my nylon jaw pliers are a 'no name' brand - just a pair that my local bead shop were selling...x
Okay... of spinning for a necklace or bracelet I would I use something like a nymo thread and the needle that comes with the spinner. Your thread will easily go through the eye of the supplied needle. Spinning onto wire will be too rigid. I spin onto wire to make French beaded flowers which need the strength of the wire to stand proud. Sorry for misunderstanding your original question...x

Not sure I understand your question Kotie. In this demo I show you how to string beads straight onto wire for French beading. If you’re wanting to string into a beading thread like s-lon/nymo etc…The spinners come with long needles for this purpose…x
The bead spinner is not a tool to use with elastic…it comes with a needle that you can use to spin beads into thread or you can make a needle with wire and spin directly onto wire if you’re going to be doing french Beading…x
If you use a spinning needle (a large hooked needle) in place of the wire you can spin beads onto elastic the same way you would with thread. The hooked needle catches the beads like you see in this video, but then instead of pushing them down the wire, you would simply push the beads over the eye of the needle and onto the elastic or thread
