    Inverted is the way. ;)
    Pro tip for inverted: wet the filter. Place it in the holder then when you've filled the chamber rest it on top, add a few drops from the kettle, flip it over and screw on. My aeropress failures have all been from a misaligned filter paper when it slips out of place while attaching it.

    So, to recap:
    AP upright
    1 paper filter
    Dose: 16g "medium-fine" (= 500 - 700 Micron - according to Kruve Brewler)
    Water: 250g
    Water Temp.: 94°C
    stir 5x
    Steep for 1:00 - 1:30 min.
    press plunger for 30 seconds

    I do inverted and about 18g of medium fine coffee (almost espresso grind) only add enough water to do a double espresso sized shot. Heat the Press chamber first then take out and add coffee then water just off the boil. Let it bloom and step for about 2 mins stirring (front to back, side to side, not round and round) straight after water in and then again before turning over the plunge. I have it with frothed milk and it’s basically strong enough to be a flat white drink and is always smooth, tasty and delicious.

      Pretty much exactly how I do it, but I stir for about 20s, then let it stand for 3m. Perfect for a flat white.

    I have often found that friends and family who thought that they didn't like coffee, loved the coffee produced by AeroPress. Partly because it's so smooth. Several went on to buy one.

    Glad you included the inverted method at the end, which is my preference. I find too much drips through when steeping otherwise, and this way I can leave it inverted whilst brewing.
    A really excellent intro video to Aeropress. I have been using mine for a couple of years now and even got rid of my (basic) espresso machine as only ever used the Aeropress.
    Finally, I love that the scoop is the perfect size for a single measure of beans!

    for a longer brew many think you need to invert, but you don't if you just plunge a little bit and pull it back up slightly to create suction, 0 drips after that and you just press it down after 4 or 5 minutes

    For many years now I've been making my Aeropress coffee with the Fellow Prismo attachment. I know Aeropress people are marketing their own version now, but I'm not chucking out my Prismo until it works no more. I like my coffee a bit stronger than yours, so 25 grams of coffee, ground fairly fine, water to mark 4 at 95°C (my kettle heats as 5°C steps), stir for around 30 seconds, plunge and enjoy. No sweetener or dairy, black and hot.

    • @TJDawgs72
      @TJDawgs72 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do the same thing, but I use the inverted method and let it steep for 3 minutes. The Fellow Prismo will shoot everywhere if you don't put a cup over it before you flip it upside down again by the way...lol Quick plunge into the cup and you have a strong but great cup of coffee.

    For those worried about prolonged hot water contact with plastic leaching with the regular Aeropress, theres a fantastic solution I've been using with stellar results with an alternate brewing method using the original Aeropress. So simple and it's actually way more efficient than the regular way using a lot less grounds to get the same strength coffee. So simple, just boil enough water as if you were brewing to the 1.5 or 2.5 mark in the Aeropress but instead of putting it in the aeropress, just add about 1/2 to 3/4 scoop of grounds to a glass or stainless cup or 12-20 oz milk frothing pitcher and add the boiling water to the same vessel. What you're doing is brewing outside of the Aeropress in a non plastic container. The beauty of this method is you can leave the coffee brewing as long as you like and let it cool down to room temperature and get maximum extraction without bad flavors. Then after it has cooled, pour it into the Aeropress and press the cooled coffee. What you've made is a cooled down strong espresso type shot that had only a few seconds of contact time with the plastic. Now you just boil some water to add creamer to or steam some milk to dilute and bring the coffee back up to hot drinking temp. Seems to taste just as good as Brewing the regular way to me, if not better. The verdict is still out on that and I need to do more trials with various types of coffee. You can also use this method to Brew several batches in advance and store in the fridge for coffee concentrate always ready to use.

    instead of inverting. I'd probably just opt for the flow control. doesn't leak and such so it works functionally the same as inverting. but less jumbling when flipping and heated water/air pressure eshengans.

    Does anyone brew with water quantities larger than the chamber capacity? I had considered the XL for a short while, but found that my daily brew routine nowadays works fine:
    20-24g of medium fine grounds in, first I pour in 250-270 g of hot water, stir, then let some of it pass through the filter with the chamber left open. Once there’s enough space, I add more hot water to hit roughly 300-360ml total. Another quick stir (sometimes), then I use the plunger to create a vacuum for 2 to 3 minutes, then press slowly. Now that I’ve got the workflow down, I get consistently good to great results and I’m very happy with the simplicity. Of course, it’s quite impractical with the inverted method or the flow control filter cap

    • @ezeebop
      @ezeebop 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I should have added, I also hacksawed a section at the top of the plunger to make the right length, but that was a little trickier, because it meant rejoining it with Araldite (which has held for years). I might add, that if you haven't pulled off the rubber part at the bottom of the plunger and cleaned it lately, you may be in for a somewhat disgusting sight when you do so. Solids accumulate in there over time.

    Many people seem to be moving away from the medium-find grind and going to more of a medium coarse grind. I wonder if you have tried and compared these two?

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It really depends on the coffee - how it is roasted and the recipe you use, but I find a medium-fine grind to be the sweet spot. Usually the overall contact time of water with coffee will dictate what grind setting you choose. As the rate of extraction increases or decrease whether you go finer or coarser. So, longer extraction times require coarser grind settings. Whereas if you're brewing within a 2 minute window - i find a finer grind to be that sweet spot 👌
      I have a few AeroPress floating around the studio I'll have to really see which one I prefer 🙌

    @alternativebrewing, any idea how many pressings the rubber gasket and plastic basket are rated for? Also, can you translate the numeric grind settings of your grinder to numeric-alpha settings of the Vario grinder (1 to 10 major steps, A to W minor steps)? Thanks

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey - the gasket - I’ve had one for ten years still going strong 💪 AND not always taking the best care of it. Shouldn’t need a replacement unless leaking.
      Re: grind settings, I’m not sure I understand fully here- what is it you’re trying to do? Can you give me an example?

    • @P-K-Ray
      @P-K-Ray 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I recently replaced my gasket and basket after roughly 10 years, two pack of each from third-party vendors on Amazon USA for $10-$15 total. Seems I’d accidentally dumped a basket in the trash and the gasket was getting dense and super shiny anyway. The reviews for their own replacement gaskets were not all that great, so I decided to try others for less money. I have multiple presses and the new one is a bit larger, requiring more pressure than the original, but it works fine for me after a month or two

    • @ggivensjr
      @ggivensjr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AlternativeBrewingsimple, your grinder has 1 setting. I use a vario with ceramic burrs. It has 2 adjustments; macro 1 to 10 and micro A to W. How do I adjust your single adjustment to the dual adjustment of the Vario? Typically the factory settings of the burrs of the Vario is set to 2Q. That is what Baratza says is start point for an espresso grind. Baratza also says 4M is start point for AeroPress grind. Now somewhere in between is the optimum setting for a medium AeroPress grind. I can’t believe since the Baratza Vario is one of the best selling grinders in the world that someone hasn't tested setting it (Vario) for the AeroPress.
