I heard this for the first time when I saw a young man doing this in PSE/SEE. And for being so young and hearing, I thought he done well with it, but it lacked ASL structure, and correct facial grammar. Although he has lots of passion which I absolutely love, for a Deaf person, his facial expressions could come across as anger and be confusing to a Deaf/hh person watching it considering what the song is about. After posting a comment to him making a few suggestions about those things I asked some interpreter friends of mine to give me their honest opinions about my suggestions to him and one directed me to your video. I wanted to jump through the ceiling in joy! It is so hard to find a quality channel that interprets Christian songs. There are a few good channels for secular but very very few that have quality Interpreted Christian songs. Your video was the PERFECT example of what I was talking about with actual ASL structure, correct facial grammar and the passion!!!! OMG I love you! Although I've only been an Interpreter for the past 14 years, I have signed my whole life and I get so excited when I come across a good ASL interpreted Christian song. Needless to say I subscribed.
I learned about fingerspelling when I was a young girl and went to the library and discovered Helen Keller. Later, when my daughter was born with many physical problems, hearing being one of them, I learned some signs from her school and bought Signing Exact English. I found out years later that I could use those signs in church with songs. I never learned ASL. I have worship signed to a hearing congregation. Really, I was signing to God. I felt very free when I did. I hope that signing exact English does not offend Deaf or heard of hearing people. That is never my intention. I had thought about signing a couple of songs at the high rise my mother lives at. I just wanted to share my love of worship signing to people. There is one Deaf woman who lives there but I will not do it if it would offend her.
I don't think at all that it would offend. At least you're making an attempt to find a way to communicate to them. Just understand that English isn't their first language so there may be a lot of signs that you use they won't get the meaning of. They'll understand the signs, just may not get the meaning or intent behind them. But it certainly won't be offended. Once in awhile you'll come across a die hard ASL Deaf person who won't want anything to do with you if you use SEE or even PSE. In fact, it was a man exactly like that that intimidated my husband's so bad he dropped out of the ASL interpreting program because of it. Lol. Me I'm more stubborn and have a thicker skin, plus I've been signing for so long they just no longer can intimidate me. Just don't make a video on SEE and call it ASL. That frustrates a lot of interpreters.
That was absolutely beautiful. When I first heard this song, the only thing I could do is imagine the song being expressed in American Sign Language. I feel that it’s so accurately portrays what this song is trying to say. But I think it’s the perfect language to convey its meaning. You did such a wonderful job and I thank you so much for sharing this with the world.
It’s great to watch you sign every song and to see that the words a hearing person sings is not the same sign you use. I’m aware that’s because of the asl language and interpretation changes the English word to an asl word. Thanks for signing and showing us there is so much more to asl! May those who can’t hear love this song just by the way you sign it. Blessings Megg Rose!
Thats the goal, ASL is my first language & the interpretations/performances are always more authentic coming from a Deaf Artist. Glad you see the difference :)
You are truly blessed for my life with generation of deaf music performer...just thank God for made you and your talents on signing! Your confidence is beautiful!
Wonderfully expressed and nicely edited. I will share this with my friend, who is a brand new christian, but still facing drug rehab, etc. Reckless Love is already her favourite worship song. Your signing of it will encourage her even more. God guide & strengthen you as you use your gifts for His glory.
This is beautiful! I love your interpretation of this song! It is the best that I have seen. "Reckless love" is often signed in strange ways. You made the meaning clear. Thank you!
Would it be possible for someone to provide a gloss of the ASL signs she uses? (at least for the chorus of "overwhelming, neverending reckless love of God") I'm trying to learn this and it would be so helpful to know so I can look up signs for more clarity if needed!! Thanks!
Amazing! I just found your channel. I am 13 years old and Just started learning ASL at the beginning of me school year; last year. I love all of the feeling you put into it along with how clear your signing in you are not just signing you ARE Singing! You are beautiful and amazing at what you do thank you so much for everything. I am a new subscriber and look forward to more videos. I was just wondering are you deaf? Thank you again!!!!
I have an ASL assignment to interpret a song in ASL grammar so I decided on a few christian songs and came upon your channel. I am in LOVE!! I love how expressive you are and your signing in beautiful! This one along with the hurt and the healer are ones I'm thinking about doing but cant make up my mind. Which would you recommend for a beginner? You have gained a follower and cant wait to see what else you do!
Wow, awesome! I'll be interpreting this song Sunday, and you've inspired me. Could you explain to me (a hearing person) the sign you're using for "reckless?" I'm seeing something like the "Train gone" sign, but with all 5 fingers of the dominant hand. Can you help me understand? Thank you!
I'm late to respond prior to you interpreting, but wanted to share: when I interpret this concept, I use different signs, such as YEARN, or STRONG, or EXPRESS, or EAGER, maybe even a combination...something to show God's love never lets anything get in its way to reach us. Hope this helps. Beautiful interpretation in this video; I cried so much...I was very touched.
Betsy Markman it not always easy putting a word to a sign. Megg Rose hope I am not overstepping here.😉 that sign is the concept of being awesome. Like a beyond understanding awesome. Reckless in this song is a beyond understanding so to say.
Hi Betsy, the sign you're seeing I think we gloss as "extraordinary" or I've seen "out of this world". At our church I've seen the terps use the sign "terrible" which can mean "unreal" in a positive way as well.
You definitely did not over step my dear... for me when I translate my songs, it's a personal relationship with Christ that influences my sign choices so everyone else may use a different word as long as the meaning is the same is ok :) Thank you for you kind word
What is the sign similar to the ZOOM sign only using the open 5 hand off of the non Dom IX finger? It's one of those signs that's on the tip of my fingers (pun intended) but simply won't come out for some reason.
Awesome video!!! It’s amazing to see true words of God’s spoken into different languages especially ASL. What curriculum do You recommend for ASL beginners with no previous experience? Thanks!

Thank you so much for your reply. I have seen videos that say ASL and they aren't. I just love to praise God using sign language!
I love your signing! I sometimes worship sign Exact English because I've never learned ASL. You are so expressive! Blessings!

smiles, I'm not an Interpreter, Im a Deaf Performing Artist ;)
What does the five handshape sliding across the index finger mean? Is it a sign for words similar to "awesome" or "wonderful"?
beautiful !

what sign did you use for spoke? Love the cover!
Love it, you expressed that beautifully. Perhaps consider trimming the excessive nails? Thanks for making the video and keep on sharing please.
