Hey great video, but I have a question! What if you use smart hdr and set auto exposure then adjust it in the post? Like on the iPhone stock photos app you can edit exposure, highlights, and shadows separately or you can just download Adobe Lightroom and do the same thing. I tried to turn off smart hdr and decrease exposure and take a shot, then turned on smart hdr and put auto exposure and let iPhone do the work, then I edited the photo in Lightroom and I got the same results. Also, you can use photoshop to blend 3 photos, one over-exposed, one underexposed, and one perfectly exposed, and then combine them and match the exact exposure that you want, basically creating an hdr effect manually.
@@Shawn.ShooterSmart HDR doesn't always activate HDR, only when the conditions trigger it. Furthermore, it's always best to try and get the best exposure in the field as it makes a better quality image than trying to adjust it while editing. If you want to change the exposure after the fact, it's best to be using the ProRAW file format but bear in mind this takes up a lot of space. Thanks for the video. I have an iPhone 8, and HDR is turned on. I was trying to take photos of the leaves of trees changing in autumn. If I set the exposure on the tree, the tree looked good, but the blue sky behind it turned white. I believe that the sky was much brighter than the tree was. If I set the exposure on the sky, the sky turned blue but the tree became too dark. I was wondering if there is a way to prevent that on the iPhone 8 or would I need to use software to adjust the photo afterwards?
That is a common issue. The camera sensor cannot capture light the same way we do with our eyes. If you want to capture both the bright blue sky and the tree, the best will be to take two photos, one with the exposure set on the tree and the other on the sky. You can use apps or software like photoshop to merge the images in a few clicks.
Thank you for this awesome tutorial!! You truly have incredible talent in both as a photographer and speaker! I've been experimenting with exposure similar to your tutorial with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I have a question if I may; Is there a quick way to unlock my manual exposure after taking the shot? I've been manually going back to the exposure slider and sliding it back to 0.0 in order to unlock it. Thank you once again.... Your tutorials are the best I've ever come across, seriously. Happy New Year to you and yours!! 😊👍
You can only adjust exposure after taking the shot through editing. This video will help you get started: iphonephotographyschool.com/video/editing-apps. And if you’d like to learn more, be sure to check out our iPhone Editing Academy course! Here’s the link: iphone.to/iea-j
@@iPhone_Photography_School Thank you for your help and the link. Actually, my question is not for post editing, it's regarding setting the exposure value back to 0.0 on the iPhone. At 5:47 in your tutorial, you closed the hidden menu after changing your exposure to -2.0 which shows your locked exposure at the top of the screen. I would like to know if there is a shortcut for changing the locked exposure back to 0.0 after the shot, without going back into the menu and sliding it back to 0.0? Thank you again, I sincerely appreciate your help. 😊
cool videos... I subbed! Question... I did turn on my HDR option, but it doesn't show on the top of the screen like it does on yours... am I setting something different...? thank you!
You should disable Smart HDR in Settings>Camera if you want the HDR icon to show up on the Camera app. But there's really no need to do that. We just disabled it here to demonstrate the exposure adjustment.

just found your awesome channel subscribed and hit the bell notification. I have at the iPhone 11 Pro with 134 thousand photos on it. I would love to see a video on how to avoid the terrible green dot from the lease flare. What I have learned from trial and error is move the green dot to a black area and just take in out in photo shop. Have you found a way to avoid it that I am not aware of
Hi Mark! If you can't remove the lens flare from simply angling your iPhone differently, then the best solution is to then remove it in the editing process. Thank you! Btw the exposure comp on the 13 pro max seems more limited because the whole scene gets darker. Is that because the removed the option of turning off HDR?
Exposure compensation will make the whole scene darker even if the HDR option is available. You're just getting richer or darker shadows when HDR is disabled.

Thanks for your great lectures! 1 quick question. What if I turn on "ProRAW", then I don't see HDR? I know I can post-process a RAW file to get what I want. So this "ProRAW" & HDR are "mutually exclusive" or "inclusive"? Think I'll just use HDR to let it do the magic to ease the hassle of processing.

I have the 13 pro, and there is no feature to turn off HDR in the camera settings. So does that mean I have no way of disabling HDR? Thank you.
HDR can no longer be disabled on the 13 models. Use a lower exposure compensation value instead to get darker shadows. :)
@@iPhone_Photography_School Thanks for your help.
Thanks!
Thank you! Great advice for locking shadows with an older version of iphone. By the way great shots over door/ladies WOW!
Glad it was helpful!
Whats the difference between sun exposure slider and exposure compensation slider
Thank you very much for producing these videos. So helpful. Have you made a video on how to take low light pictures on iphone
Yes! You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/9wIHmY8R27A/w-d-xo.html
Helpful information, thank you 🙏 From Lithuania 👌🙌🇱🇹

Is there a difference between adjusting the sun icon during tap to focus/AE lock and the overall exposure compensation?
There will be no difference in the results! :)
At 8:15, couldn’t we just turn up burst mode , why is it have u used the live mode?
Absolutely! Burst Mode could definitely be a useful way to capture those images.
How are the videos here on TH-cam which anyone can access for free different from the paid course?
We produce free TH-cam videos for advertisement but the course content is much more extensive. Our course is a comprehensive set of lessons designed to give you expert iPhone photography skills so you can create beautiful photos. The structure of our course, the assignments which can be shared in our active Facebook group and our superb support team are all tailored to making your learning experience the best! :)
Hi bro..
Is this necessary to have multiple camera set-up for this vdo lesson.
Or single camera set-up like iPhone xr also works perfectly?
Hi Mayur, yes you can also follow this lesson on the iPhone XR. Just bear in mind that you will need to physically move closer or further to change the frame instead of being able to change the lenses. You're very welcome Mohd! :)
just found your awesome channel subscribed and hit the bell notification.
The healing tools found in Snapseed, Lightroom or TouchRetouch are excellent for quickly removing these flares. Thank you! Btw the exposure comp on the 13 pro max seems more limited because the whole scene gets darker. Is that because the removed the option of turning off HDR?
Exposure compensation will make the whole scene darker even if the HDR option is available. You're just getting richer or darker shadows when HDR is disabled.
@@iPhone_Photography_School thank you!!

Hi, i don't see the Smart HDR option on latest iphone 13 pro. Did they change anything recently?
Smart HDR can no longer be disabled but you can still get dark shadows by setting the exposure compensation to a lower value.
@@iPhone_Photography_School sure thank you for responding.
Ur so nice and helpful
Is this info outdated? My iPhone 13 does not have the HDR option in the camera settings. Maybe it was removed…
It is not possible to turn off the HDR option on the iPhone 13 and 14 models. That feature works automatically on those devices.
which setting should i use high efficiency or most compatible
High efficiency, since with most compatible you can shoot 1080p 240 fps and 4k 60 fps, not only that but takes less storage on your phone!
We recommend you use High Efficiency in our video on camera settings :)
Great video, I always watch them, can you make a video on how to shoot in Raw on an iPhone using third party apps like Moment, or how to shoot in ProRaw please?

Awesome content and tutorial. Im learning a lot from watching your videos. A quick question though, the photos the you were showing as an end product, are these raw photos or already processed? Coz your shots are amazing. I want to take great photos with minimal to no editing if possible. Thanks.

You can Use HDR together with ProRAW. Once you enable ProRAW, you can get the HDR option if you open the hidden menu (by tapping on the arrow on the top).
@@iPhone_Photography_School Much tks Emil! This is a PRO tip!

I don’t have hdr option for photos on my iPhone 13 pro
You're right, this has been removed on iPhone 13 models. But don't worry, the iPhone automatically applies Smart HDR whenever applicable. If you wish to get darker shadows, you can use the exposure compensation slider instead. :)
@@iPhone_Photography_School very disapointed with my iphone 13 pro photos to be honest..... they are too sharp.... sometimes grainy...... they don't look natural. I had much better results with my iphone XS
Thkyou
You still look the same from the time you were using iPhone 10s . Reason why I sold my dslr because of THIS TH-cam. 😊 I’m having hard time using burst mode ‘cause now it is placed using the volume button.
You can take a burst photo by swiping the shutter button to the left. Do not press, just swipe - a long press activates the video. :)

The HDR cannot be deactivated on the iPhone 13. This feature activates automatically when the device thinks it is necessary. Perhaps Apple will change that in the future.

How to send high quality photos to your family and friends?
It's best to use iCloud Photo Sharing. Here's a guide that will help you: iphonephotographyschool.com/icloud-photo-sharing/
I dint understood why he kept live photo setting on? Anybody?
Live Photos was turned off in this video. Can you share the timestamp where you saw it activated so we can check that for you.
@@iPhone_Photography_School 4:43
Live Photos was off during that timestamp. We recommend leaving it off to capture similar scenes. But of course, you can also use it for more creative results :)
Was this vid shot on iPhone? 🤔
Yes, in the video he says he is using an iPhone 11 Pro.
@@ingejustavanderhelm5208 Video shot is different from using! He probably used some DSLR or SLR camera to shoot the video and then used the screen-recording feature on his iPhone to demonstrate what he is doing in the camera app! Because you can see him holding an iPhone, I don't thinks it's a video of holding an iPhone and recorded on the iPhone at same time.
The video was shot on the Sony a7iii with screen recordings from the iPhone 11 Pro :)
Good

The ONLY way to expose a photo is to MESURE the lignt with a posmeter/flashmeter ( and, with digital cameras, overpose at least +1 stop, because most of informations/datas are into high and very high lights)
