    I'm just gonna say this I really enjoy how lauv and other artists don't see bts as a joke!!! A lot of times songs in a foreign language become widely memed on and taken as a joke here. I'm incredibly grateful that bts portrays a positive porfessional vibe that people have grown to take seriously! I know a ton of people still look down upon bts but I hope one day an artist who sings in a foreign language can come to America and be treated like an American artist!!!

    Let me be blunt here: *It's always about "why don't they speak English fluently?"* but a language barrier is not one sided. I could also ask: *"Why don't Americans speak Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese etc fluently?"*
    Considering that millions of people speak that language in the US all of them should be teached as second, third, fourth language since childhood, like we in Europe learn English, Spanish, French, German etc as second and third language because that's what the people living on the same continent as us speak. You might be able to struggle together with people on the other side of the planet that don't speak perfect English and therefore might be hesitant to use it if your Korean isn't perfect either but there is at least some amount of knowledge.
    *You want to break down language barriers?* Try learning the languages your citizens speak instead of forcing everything into a white dominated English speaking mono-culture and then go *"Why don't those people on the other side of the planet speak the one language I speak fluently?"*
    English is a foreign language in Korea, there aren't millions of Americans (or Brits) calling Korea their home for generations, Korean on the other hand is for millions of Americans their native language with English. Koreans struggling with speaking English is simply a case of not speaking a completely foreign language. Americans not being able to speak Korean is ignoring a whole language spoken by the citizens of their country.
    *That might sound really harsh, but as someone who learned (and also forgot a lot because I'm getting old) half a dozent languages I really don't understand this American ignorance and insecurity towards the people and their cultural herritage in their own country, just to turn around and whine that someone from the other side of the planet doesn't speak a complete alien language fluently and therefore those "poor" mono-lingual Americans "struggle" so much with communicating with them.What is the process behind whining about foreigners with no connection to your language not speaking it when you literally don't speak their language which is native spoken language in your country by your own citizens? Them speaking English to you would would be a courtesy, you speaking Korean to them would be expected considering Korean is a widely spoken language in the US. Simple as that!*

    • @onlyfacts8801
      @onlyfacts8801 4 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      Facts. Americans just tend to be very self-centered on their own culture. One who doesn't even speak several languages shouldn't expect a foreigner to speak English. Besides, translations are available and music transcends language anyway.

    Most Americans keep forgetting that English is also a foreign language to other people from other countries around the world. Yes, English is spoken in many different places, but it's still ONE of hundreds and thousands of other spoken languages around the globe. If ARMYs don't have a problem with the language barrier then it shouldn't be for an actual musical professional like Lauv and many others. BTS speaking English is a courtesy from them to us! They make the effort in communicating to their fans in their native language. This only encourages ARMYs to learn korean as well as other languages and interests. It's the 21st century!! There's this thing called google to help you with translation and more. Even better ➡ Rosetta Stone 😂👍💜 As human beings, we really never stop learning.

    These radio jocks may not have an idea of what they're talking about because in music, there's no such thing as "language barrier". If it feels right for the artists and the audience will feel connection, it will work.

A lot these Americans need to get off their English Speaking Only high horse and start learning different languages because yall will NEVER connect with and to the rest of world like BTS if you don't learn about different cultures and languages and stop acting superior to non-Native English speakers.

      English is still not part of South Korea's official language. Those rare Koreans who can speak fluently indeed learned it from their foreign upbringing (they studied, worked or lived abroad for a long time).
      Tho RM lived in NZ for some months and taught himself in speaking English through watching Friends, all BTS members didn't live in the US or any English-speaking countries that's why it's still a barrier, and so do most of Koreans.

    Fact check: Halsey was friends with the boys for 2 years, and then they collabed. We’re so used to artists in the US music industry collabing that don’t even necessarily have a relationship that I feel like it’s weird for interviewers that BTS doesn’t collab with people they don’t already know in some way. Like they don’t first meet once it’s time to collab, that would be backwards.

They necessarily don't have to know it (ok they could do it for the international fans but they're try) like many are acting as if language barrier exists just because bts boys are Korean. And leave my poor boi namjoon alone like now that bts Fandom is growing phenomenally wide globally. Other people can try and learn Korean too. It's hard, yes, but that is almost how English is to a bunch of people.
