      Ben Levin "Recently as a fake doctor, I got fake tenure. And now I have more reliable fake income." Dude I laughed out loud at this comment. I love what a goofball you are.

    Wow simple yet really effective way of finding new sounds. So few guitarists break out of the minor/major pentatonic mentality. YOU ROCK

    C-F-Ab(the tonic chord) is an Fm, Db-G-C(the second chord) is a Csusb2, F-Ab-Db(the third chord) is a Dbsus4, G-C-F(the fourth chord) is Csus4, and Ab-Db-G(the fifth chord) is a Dbsus#4. Hope that helps.

    Interesting, when I hear those chords it sounds to me like F is the root. F G Ab C Db is sort of a reduction of F Aeolian. Cool!

    I am so thrilled with the response to this video! Here is one great pentatonic scale based on A dorian: A B C E F#
    Try it and see how it goes! I haven't made chords with it yet.

    Double-Harmonic without the 3rd and 4th sounds cool too! The 4th found it's way back into the bassline in a part where I stop mostly pedaling the bass in favor of stronger cadences though, but it seems to create a cool contrast

    It's perfect 4th shifted (same notes but played from F) of "Hirajoshi" scale which is also a Ethiopian "Tezeta minor" scale. You can hear it in Mulatu Astatke's Ethio jazz music a lot. It's so aweome.

    I use that scale a lot. Got the idea from go off with Marty Friedman's run. I have a video I did on exotic pentatonic scales anew how I constructed them by omitting the 2nd and 6th note of 3 modes, Mixolydian, Lydian, ans Ionian.. Check it out. I think you will like it. I like the chord application you do here. Great lesson!

    awesome thank you im gonna apply this to all the church modes. just kinda difficult picking out which 5 notes to keep. For example E phridgian E F G A B C D which 5? and should i add the G#/Aflat cos to me in power chords this sounds out of this world scary demonised type of music. itd be great if you could share a thought on this for me. thanks

  • @gingerjam2192
    @gingerjam2192 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To me it sounds more like a F aeolian pentatonic scale (same notes but different root) because to me the first triad is not a C suspended b6 but a reversed F minor. So this scale is 1 2 b3 5 b6. It's like the 1 2 3 5 6 of the known major pentatonic over the aeolian mode. Try these scheme over all modes and pick the pentatonic scales you like. Then try this with the minor pentatonic scheme (1 3 4 5 7) over all the modes and again choose the pentatonic scales you like. I guaranty you'll find some exotic scales you'll never let down ! This was an advice given to me from a professional guitarist maybe 15 years ago and it paid off for me.
    Of course try the triads harmonization as explain by Mr Levin with those new pentatonic scales (and the old ones).
    Ex : pick your classic minor pentatonic and raise the minor third to a major, bingo it's an indian mixolydian pentatonic. One of my favorite ;)

    • @poodle3507
      @poodle3507 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ginger Jam you need more flamenco in your life in order to feel the phrygian;
      Just kidding (sort of), my first instinct was to her F as the tonic but as soon as he started playing over the progression, it was an unmistakably phrygian vibe just because of the pentatonic scale and how it fit within those chords

    • @poodle3507
      @poodle3507 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ginger Jam very interesting ideas though :)

    • @badradish2116
      @badradish2116 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tonal center is everything. from the phrygian center, that b2 makes all the difference. if you don't drill that center, it'll wind up sounding aeolian like ginger says.

  • @euphoricism

    How do these 'flow' together? They don't seem to resolve back to C, they actually seem to pull toward F (I assume thats because CFAb our first chord is just Fmajor)?
