I remember on some occasions here, Ray would ask Name a game show host you hate, the second family member would say Ray Combs. It was all in fun.
That was very funny and clever! Ray should never have been fired from this show. He did a great job of trying to do the impossible... follow Richard Dawson. R.I.P. both of them.
Jeff Brown I agree, the ratings were down but they could have been back up if they allowed Combs to shine more. When the show came back in 1999, Louie Anderson was awful, the guy from Tool Time was okay and the old dude from Seinfeld sucked. Good thing that Steve Harvey brought back life to the show.

Remember when Walter White comes back to his car after leaving Tuco Salamanca's office? He freaks out and shouts in a way that expresses his raw thrill and satisfaction, pounding the steering wheel with his clenched fists. That's how I would feel if I got over 200 points by myself. I'd freak out like Walter White and celebrate violently with satisfaction.

Yeah, Ray was great. I don't know the details, but a documentary said that Ray clashed with the producer or someone who felt that he was trying to turn the Feud into the Ray Combs Show.
Compare that idea to today's Feud which is the Steve Harvey Show. They've really made Family Feud more like Match Game where the game doesn't matter as much as the funny answers. I think Ray Combs could have done well in a show like that.

Steve Harvey has some good ones... but I grew up on Ray Combs. I still feel he's the best host ever for this show. Richard Dawson was ok, but he was a bit creepy cuz he was always trying to kiss the girls on the mouth or cheek.

That was an amazing win on the Ray Combs version of the Family Feud on CBS!! It happened twice when Richard Dawson hosted Family Feud on ABC before Ray Combs started hosting Family Feud on CBS.

A very very sad, strange, weird, tragic and bizarre end to Ray Combs life. Committed suicide on 6/2/1996 at age 40. Whoever thought behind that great smile and great looks was a very troubled man. So sad so young. May he RIP.
I remember watching this when it first aired and I had one of my biggest laughs ever. Just wish things could have worked out better for him.

The questions are ordered in such a way that it is impossible for a contestant to solo win fast money. They also change the questions mid-game (specifically the double round) to ensure four rounds.
It's not impossible to solo win though. it's happened in recent games before.

Hey, Bob. Ray suffered some hardships near the end of his life. A car accident that left him in pain 24 hours a day, a foreclosure on his home, two comedy clubs that failed, a divorce, & several failed attempts to get back into television. He tried to kill himself in early June, 1996. The very next day, he was placed in a Psychiatric Ward at The Glendale Adventist Medical Center in CA. That same day he tied the sheets from his bed together and hung himself in the closet of his room. So Sad.
Like the late Dick Clark would say: 'Now that's Twice!' That's twice in the Ray Combs era that anyone would make a clean sweep in the fast money round! Fascinating!
