    You might already know but Mrs Blewitt ( Cathy Staff ) was a regular on TV in the UK around the time of this series, She was fantastic in Last of the summer wine, a popular series, was also in Benny Hill, she was a wonderful lady but I guess you hear most characters who are Grumpy, angry or down right nasty turn out to be a loveable person in real life, love you're reactions to this show, brings back so many great memories.

    My first job was a telegram boy in 1977 & my first wage packet was £22

  • @GenialHarryGrout
    @GenialHarryGrout 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The average wage for someone of that age in the late 1970's was about £25 per week so I would say he got around £10 since Arkwright would deduct something for is rent. The next episode is the last in season 2 so when you have posted it I will send you something, and unlike Arkwright, it will be free.

    • @corringhamdepot4434
      @corringhamdepot4434 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking that my starting wage in an admin office back in the late 70's was around £30 per week, and I was paying £15 per week for a room in a shared house. That was in the south east, so £10 a week "all in", "up north" sounds about fair, but I doubt he was paid that much. A study of the prices of the things in the shop, reminds me of my weekend job in a supermarket while I was still at school.

    One more comment, I swear my làst one lol, the bit were David Jason fell over, there's another sitcom he's in that I think you've covered, only fools and horses, one scene in that sees him fall and it's probably the funniest thing ever seen on British TV.

    They are engaged, they have been engaged for years of course she loves him, but she got to wait till her mother passes away to be able to marry him. That's why he always jokes about her mother dying. When he does these things like going up to her window and having a cuddle with her it's not like he's doing it to just anybody, they are very close in their own way, but not all relationships are the same.

    1/2p wasn't much, even when this was made. Typical Arkwright. 🤣 Another consistently good episode. I don't think Granville gets paid a lot at all. I don't think it's ever mentioned. Although, the figure 3 pounds a week, rings a bell, somewhere. Mothballs were made from naphthalene, which is a hydrocarbon with a distinctive smell. A bit like benzene. Not wholly unpleasant but it's rather pungent and tends to stick around for quite a while. A fusty, chemical smell.
