totally thought he had another job down there in Corpus with his marine biology degree and less frequent videos. Bummer dude! Been there before too in my younger twenties when I had a vehicle “blow up” and throw a piston on me while driving up I-20 in West Texas. It sucked! Glad he is ok though and lessons learned.
Coop, I'm an old guy- 71. I grew up in Houston / Surfside beach. Back in the 60s & 70s we had a special car wash on 332 after we came back over the ICW bridge. It was simply a big square of pipes with spray nozzles about every 6"in, including under the car. we put in our dimes (a long time ago ;) and pulled forward and backed up until we thought we had it all rinsed off. OUTSTANDING. Unfortunately... where it used to be is now a bait shop and the sprayer wash is long gone. If I owned that bait shop I'd put it back in. he would blow away the other 3 bait shops! Back in 1977 I bought a Chevy Blazer . I lived in Houston . Went to the beach a lot for fun snd fishing . I got my Blazer undercoated. Best money I spent to help keep the under side from rusting. I still rinsed the under side anyway . Keep the videos coming . Enjoy them tremendously!!
Growing up on the gulf coast and fishing all the time as a young man, I learned the hard way how important it is to get to the carwash asap after being on the beach. If you can just pressure wash everything and get it rinsed off with fresh water, it will eliminate a lot of problems. Same goes for the outboard engine. You really have to flush it after a few days in the water. It is a hassle but will pay off big time in avoiding rust and corrosion. Hope you are able to get a replacement vehicle soon. I really enjoy your videos.
Dude! Man, that's so bad. Sorry to hear about all the misfortune. But I like that you are taking it as a learning experience AND passing that knowledge on to others. We here for you bro!
Cooper, your frickin legit man. I just went back and watched your very first videos. Thank you for sharing and keep grinding. It will be a great story down the road!
Hey man, I'm from Michigan where we have the heavily salted roads. I run a hauling company with a number of heavy trucks. Your tribulations sound like a run of the mill year for me, lol. It's just part of it. Wash it as often as you can reasonably afford to and make repairs as long as the truck can serve your purpose. That's my philosophy on it. Good luck and keep on doing your thing.
Sorry to hear all that brother I know how tough boat / truck problems can be when you just wanna go out there and fish / film. I hope everything works out well for you man so you can keep doing what makes you happy!
As someone whose gone through the rust disasters living in the salt belt, I know exactly how this feels, I had the same generation f150 and just about every single problem you had minus the trans was the case with mine, I got a new truck that was pretty rust free recently and ended up undercoating and getting it rust eliminated by professionals so I don’t have to go through this horror again, highly recommend doing it if anybody drives on the beach or lives in the north east. Rust sucks.
Hey brother. Just keep on pushing, and we will support you. Please ensure you rinse your truck once or twice a week. Especially how often you go out fishing. Newer vehicles will be even More sensitive to salt. So I do recommend getting some steel ramps and pressure washing the undercarriage. I recommend to start looking soon for a vehicle; your frame looked rotted. I wish you all the best!!!
no warranties can replace the happiness of successful fishing, just keep it up brother and don't let the rusts wear you down for i've been there, that's why now i'm always on my bike to fishing.
Sorry to hear Coop....but love your great attitude. It's a lesson for all of us. We'll be here no matter how little or much you post. Good luck moving forward....
hey man good luck. i had a similar situation this past year i threw a lot of money at my truck only to find out a few months later that the transfer case was starting to go and the repair on it would be basically as much as i put into it. i decided to dip into my rainy day funds and buy a new truck and run my old truck one last winter or until the transfer case finally grenades keeping my new truck out of the salt. i do plan on getting my new truck done up with linex undercoating and get the frame filled with rust inhibitor because i also run the beaches up in new england for stripers
Caught some Pomps and a 41" Red in the surf at SPI this past weekend. Our Colorado ZR2 has been a BEAST on the beach. Super lightweight, can't tell you how many times we've driven around full size trucks dug down to the axle.
Hey man! Life happens, these disruptions are meant to happen, cool attitude. Also wanted to highlight your editing and sonorozation are on point. Keep at it!
Cooper, you live close to the ocean you should be getting your truck wash every 2 weeks, even if it's a spray down; it takes off the salt mist to prevent build-up. I'm surprised you don't know about this. I live an hour from Galveston but whenever I go fishing my boat and truck gets a complete washdown when I get home. I don't have multiple cars like some folks and my truck is 2008 with 220K+ miles on it, I half to take care of it really well so I can still have those leisure times to go out fishing. Stay safe and keep your truck washed. Peace.
Well living up in the rust belt/Minnesota our roads are salt licks during the winter. Blaster surface shield or fluid film are two under coatings that work at keeping the rust at bay. Blaster works better might want to look into it when you get your new truck.
Man that's crazy story. Thanks for sharing. When you get a truck, get a 4x4 Tacoma. Most importantly, whatever is your choice, get the undercoating. Totally worth the money. Pro tip always rinse/wash the truck after launching boat or driving on the beach it helps a lot. We had a guy that never rinsed his truck after launching his boat and it cost him the rear end.
Not sure how many tools you have but look into buying a fluid film undercoating gun and buying a gallon of fluid film. You have to thin it down with vegetable oil to get it to spray through the gun, once it sets it will prevent rust for about year then you have to coat again. DO NOT put hard coatings like POR15 or whatever on frames, it will only make it worse over time. How do I know? I've driven 3 toyota's that lived in the rust belt
Loved in corpus 5 years . Took my truck to the wash after every beach or fishing trip. Waxed my truck every 6 months . No rust, but the paint job on the hood still got obliterated !!!
Yup sometimes the lessons learned are the hardest or costliest!! Just got back from PA today and we use a salt wash product on our golf carts each time before we leave. Love the coast but hate the rust.
Future reference, just buy and old beater/work truck. No need to drive a brand new one just to fish. Got mine for 4500 and it looks decent and hasn't had any problems, yet. Dads got one for 2000 and had it for years with no issues. Just gotta find them deals

saltwater is the #1 culprit, my 94 f150 took me all over the coast kayak fishing until my sudden brake failure. geesshh, a rude awakening!!! rust ate the bottom of my truck.
Up here in Canada we get our trucks oiled for $150.00 , salt on roads rusts them out like saltwater . Oiling them stops any rust for years , should do the same if your on the ocean all the time .
Im actually in that boat too. Live near SPI would go to the beach with my car for 10 years. I lost brakes due to rusted line almost crashed. Fixed the brake then A arm broke from rust 2 months after. Decided to sell it and save
No day will be sweeter than the day you drive away in your new one. Enjoy that day, but remember you can fix a lot of stuff yourself. You just gotta be brave enough to start taking it apart. Remember there is a TH-cam video for everything. Fish on!
Hey man next vehicle you do get, get corrosion block!! I use it on my truck when launching from the beach all the time here in Florida! Have absolutely no rust on it and I’ve had it for years.
The problem with "just having enough to get by" is that you don't have any emergency fund. I can guarantee you if you rethink your expenses, and cut a bunch of excess out, that money will pile up into an emergency fund and more. You never really realize how much money you're wasting until you sit down and put everything on paper.
I did almost the same thing. New motor and a couple years later it’s breaking down every weekend. Got a new one though. Maybe I can finally get some good videos out now
I needed a new thermostat on my last truck. I thought here we go so I went and traded it in. I had buyers remorse for a while just bc it's an easy and cheap fix but in the long run I think it was worth it. That's what I tell myself anyway.
Damn the bad luck Coop. When we were growing up in Corpus, we'd find a $500 junker that would pass inspection and run good, and that was our beach truck. Salt is the devil to a vehicle, but you just gotta fish man, it's in our blood. Be cool, dude. 😎
Here is what you do when you get your new truck. your going to coat the bottom with boiled linseed oil. Nick meyers who owns breakaway tackle coats his truck every 6 months. He even has a video on his youtube channel showing the process.
Salt water is about 3 or 4 percent salt content. It may just look like "water" but it destroys metal especially if it is left to dry and work at all the hidden places it finds inside any vehicle. As long as it's left in place it will keep eating away. Could be as little as a year or two before it's noticeable and you think you're fine... but no way... not at all fine. No way I would take a vehicle on any beach.
I had the same outlook when I was your age and now that I am close to 60 I wish I had started my investing in real estate way sooner than I did. At some point you will have to think about what you plan to live in your later years. What will provide you income while you fish😉
I know you're going to figure it out and a sweet ride is important for a lot of guys but I would seriously consider two vehicles, one for work and one for everything else, especially since you aren't driving long distance for a lot of your beach fishing. I'm assuming here since you used to ride your bike for most of your videos (ah the good old days). On the outer banks of North Carolina and beaches there generally where you're allowed to drive on the beach, the guys and gals who are hardcore have dedicated beach trucks, usually older models that don't have any fancy anything. No computers, no AC, no automatic transmission or windows or door locks, no power steering or brakes, just an industrial spool of bailing wire for emergency repairs and actually they look pretty damn awesome with all the rod holders and built in bait cutting station on the tail gate that is made of wood because the original is long gone along with the bed, also made of wood at some point because wood don't rust. They were set up for one thing and one thing only. You're not cruising chicks in this puppy unless she's a bonafide keeper, meaning she can cast a multiplier reel 100 yards. Just something to think about because motorcycles also rust.
Glad I became a patron for you. Eat the fish you catch and save on groceries. New truck equals higher insurance payments, licence fees, and payments on loan...the system sucks.. fight it.
Been going to port a since the 80s bud… When you do a new truck. Rinse rinse rinse rinse atleast once a week.. The salt is not only in the water but in the air..
In my opinion buddy, you're the most underated youtube fisherman. There's no reason you shouldn't have 1M subs by now. Sorry to hear about the truck,. I just bought a 2021 Ranger and it's full of disappointments, but its only cause its an expensive ride and you expect it to be perfect. You should buy an old dodge ram 1500 and just use that as your trash truck. Beat the hell out of it and it wont make you cry at night. Also hell yeah to the motorcycle. Get a Honda. Keep up the good work buddy.
Any dealerships got some extra trucks laying around?
Not sure if you're up to changing shops but Tadz fast track auto is a great place to go. He is a family friend and does great work.

We do not own our vehicles, they own us! Sorry to hear about your troubles man, we have all made bad decisions and I will make more before it's over.
Glad I became a patron for you. Eat the fish you catch and save on groceries. New truck equals higher insurance payments, licence fees, and payments on loan...the system sucks.. fight it.
Make sure you have your new truck washed right after your fishing trips, undercarriage too, I learned the hard way as well
Been going to port a since the 80s bud… When you do a new truck.
Best of luck my man I love your videos! Fords suck in general lol
Gotta be RELIGIOUS about rinsing salt off your equipment here in Texas. I’ve seen entire trucks rust away on the beach inside a year or two.
