      There's a clip elsewhere from the film Rob Roy and some posts are trying to insult Scots as a joke. All they get back is funnier things from actual Scots. It's really hard to get a rise out of any folks in the isles. It's their way of passing time among friends.

    As a non Scott, as soon as I saw the words Glasgow and Terrorist attack together, I started chuckling uncontrollably and felt guilty about it.
    After watching how hard Scottish people are laughing at the idea, my respect has gone through the roof because it's this type of emotional maturity that makes these terrorists die for nothing.
    You guys can laugh at dark things and that's why they lose their power over you.
    Your dark sense of humour is a sign of strength not weakness (at least in this context).
    Compared to Americans who take endless glory in victimhood.

      So true, a dark sense of humour is the antithesis of terrorism. Watching this and reading your comment makes me want to watch the film ‘Four Lions’ again, it really is a darkly comic satire that changed the way I think about terrorism.

    Billy is the only person that I'm aware of (28 years old and lived in Glasgow my whole life) that can bring the whole city together - its sad because it feels like we're getting to the end of his career. A living legend who will have a statue with a cone on the head one day 💚

      I think it’s just the sheer breadth and scope of his humour. It’s multi generational too. I mean. He’s been about since the 70s. Kevin Bridges is pretty funny but it’s quite narrow humour. Billy is exceptional. Pure joy.

      The UK has been dealing with terrorism for decades. We know that their purpose is to stop ordinary people from going about their business by making them too afraid to leave homes to go shopping or go to work,no orders for businesses means money,taxes, a breakdown of basic social services such as healthcare,water, electricity etc.
      The UK has handled all attacks with dark humour and a "life goes on" mentality. At the end of the day, the terrorist is dead, looking up from the fiery pits of hell, he's an idiot,the country is resilient and even his own god will think they're a jerk. Who happens to be the same one as everybody else worships.

      +Russ Littler I understand what you're saying! I'm well aware Billy Connolly has worldwide success, but that doesn't mean us Scots don't relate that tiny wee bit more! Imagine watching a comedian from Dublin, telling a funny story about his home town, or New York or Sydney, the whole world may find it funny but people from Dublin, New York and Sydney will relate to it a bit better than the rest of us! That's the case with BC in my opinion!

      ***** I've been to the US and it seemed like every person I spoke too was from Scottish descent. A big portion of Americans have ancestors from somewhere in Europe (except native Americans) My Dad and Brother live in Alabama and they're both 100% Scottish and I've got chatting with Scots on here who have moved to the states. I just didn't think it was as many as 7 million, that's the only reason I ask. Yes Braveheart has a lot to answer for although if they had shown that the night before the Scottish referendum it would've been a landslide, lol! Historically, it's very inaccurate but that's Hollywood for you. I did not know Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were from Scottish descent, every day's a school day! :)

    (lol) I can remember going to see Billy in the early days when he and Jasper Carrot were THE 2 stand up comics of the day. I can remember like it was only yesterday. Billy was there on stage and there was a noise to his left in the wings as it were. Billy stopped what he was saying, turned to where the noise came from, then looked at the audience and said, 'so'k that'll be Jasper looking for new material'. Well I very nearly wet my bloody y-fronts,(along with the rest of the audience). Ahhhhh, happy days. Thanks Billy for the memories which, NOBODY can take.

    At 76 it has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life to have been alive in Billy Connolly time. He tells the story in such a way you feel you are there. That kncident brought out the best in scottish humour. Every joke on the planet was spilt out during that time. Scots all around the world were chuffed. Imagine taking on the glaswegian 😂😂😂😂😂

    This is why this guy is a certified comedy legend. No matter how many times I see this, it still cracks me up. If you sliced him across the middle, you would find Glasgow running through him like a stick of rock. (Non-UK readers, Google seaside rock.) Most comedians are funny because of their material. Billy Connolly is funny because of his outlook on life, and that is inextricably bound up with the fact that he is Glaswegian. You're either an Edinbugger or a Weejie, and I know what side of that divide I come down on. And if you're Scottish, you'll know what I mean.

    Ye know what I served with loads of scots, and i could fully imagine this taking no shit, I'm Scouse so class myself Gaelic too/all the rest , something about the proper scots from the poor areas, the same with the Welsh from the poor areas, and the same with the poor english, just something more in common with others than our own countryman from Liverpool don't feel a part of England it's full of people who hate us

      BeerGogglesReviews Delighted that you found it funny, but I'm not sure you got this joke, from the way you've quoted it.
      He actually said "I'm not sure about religious fanatics without a fucking football team" .
      He's alluding to the Celtic v Rangers football hooligans, who are divided by religious bullshit: Celtic catholic, Rangers protestant. So the joke is Glasgow has plenty of religious fanatics already, the new guys (Islamic) haven't grasped that in Glasgow the local custom is to couch your religious hatred in the guise of supporting a particular football team.
      Maybe you did get this - if so I apologise.
      I'm just going to post this anyway, might benefit someone else not familiar with Scotland/Glasgow.

    • @BeerGogglesReviews
      @BeerGogglesReviews 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      vonteflon I absolutely fully understood. You didn't understand my comment it seems. I didn't take it at all patronising though. Different customs and areas sometimes leave others on the outside confused. The difficulty is knowing when that would confuse people. I find Micky Flannagan hilarious because I really get the old school Paca Rabanne and Farah strides Essex disco on the pull type references. In other places (especially American) people don't get him at all. As I am already a massive Connolly fan though, you might have guessed I would understand the Rangers and Celtic thing, and Catholic Proddy thing.
      Funny story... I was in an "Irish" pub in London. An Irishman asked me if I was Catholic or Protestant. I said, "Atheist." He said, "Yeah but Catholic Atheist or Protestant Atheist."

    • @vonteflon
      @vonteflon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BeerGogglesReviews Good stuff.
      Micky Flanagan is fucking hilarious, just your references above already have me giggling. Best thing is to watch him alongside my brother who just loses his shit as soon as the bloke starts talking! Although of course, Billy Connolly is the maestro in that respect, I always start laughing in anticipation before he even cracks a joke.
