MUCH better. I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I heard the Japanese version's music. Watching the Japanese version must feel really wrong. In particular, it sounds romantic rather than awesome, like the movie's a pleasant love story between Ryu and Ken, with no fighting. Maybe a lot of holding hands and staring longingly into each other's eyes but being forbidden to consummate their affection. I can't imagine the movie any other way than the US way.
I watched both versions... and it's the only anime that I prefer its modified version (this one) to the original... and by far. The original isn't bad, but the second OST has changed everything so much that it's impossible for me to see the original without it.
i honestly thought this is original my whole life... im 35, I watched this back in Russia first time when i was 6 or so... and thats the only version i knew, cause thats all i had on VHS.... and to be honest nobody knew what anime was back then, the word didnt exist on our language. Till this day when I hear this intro I get instant goosebumps! Its been over 30 years and I still play this God damn game... and still love it!
When I began reading you comment, I thought you were gonna say "... back in 97 and still haven't returned it!" Lol! I rented the hell out of this one back in '95. Then bought my own on VHS. Still have the tape lying around somewhere.
I love all the comments in this list. People genuinely enjoyed this movie. Personally it brings back lots of memories! Damn the soundtrack kicks so much ass. The movie is billion light years superior than the fraud of 1994
I love the opening of this movie, how it only shows us glimpses of the fight and cuts back to the credits until we finally get to see the fight between Ryu and Sagat.
It's quite insane how EFFECTIVE this is! Married with the visuals, this is the Street Fighter movie we've always wanted but never thought we'd ever get! Quite honestly, this opening to the movie, is FLAWLESS!
I like this opening theme of the animated movie...Ryu and Sagat are trading punches and kicks on each other...Under a thunderstorm... And this theme really fits the fight scenes. Cool!!! Thank you Razor for uploading...
+Fog Insano I think its a Shinku Shoryuken...there was a spark of light emitted during the impact of Ryu's rising uppercut on Sagat's chest; compared to Ken's hitting Thunder Hawk on his jaw.
This track put some damn hair on your chest! I saw this for the first time when I was 4 and it perfectly prepared you for the badassery that was to follow!
Fun fact: John 5 from Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie is playing guitar on this (that guitar bit at the end is typical of him). He's credited as John Lowery, his real name.
Next time im standing in the middle of a wheat field while a thunderstorm brews on, staring at the person I hate the most....ima play this shit out loud.
Still to this very day I got this on video and DVD... this soundtrack hits differently especially in the gym when your body tiring out but your mind wants to continue
honestly, I find this song and the entire fight between Ryu and Sagat much deeper than it seems, Street Fighter 1 has always been a game known for having a clean aesthetic typical of blockbuster movies about martial arts, with a soundtrack that sounds like it came from an 80s movie, Sagat's original fight in a temple on a sunny day, but not here, the fight is absolutely brutal in a dark stormy night, this perhaps shows the events of the first game from a different perspective, the true side of what really happened, a dark journey who pushed Ryu to his limit, enemy after enemy, bloody fight after bloody fight, until reaching the bloodbath that was the fight against the powerful and savage Sagat.
This tune goes well as a replacement for Resident Evil 4's 'Infiltration' if someone made a mod and stuck Ryu as a playable character in the game. TBH, How awesome would that be if Capcom done something like that for fans for this next re-re-re-release / remaster that's coming for PS4 / XB1?
I remember watching this movie back in 94, on the IFC channel (when it was under the rader, and anime wasn't big) I was 8 years old. When I saw it in subtitles, it blew my little mind. "Street Fighter, animated....THIS IS MADNESS" I asked my mother to take me to blockbuster, and import the movie...sad thing the time it took to arrive, the dubbed version was released in the U.S. about 2 weeks later. My Mom was pissed >_< XD
The ONLY weird thing about this fight is the distance Sagat had to travel to reach Ryu before the Hadouken, when they were only a few meters apart. Aside from that, this still remains one of the finest battles in anime history and this music completes it. Still holds up even after all these years!
It's animation narrative, exaggeration, elongation, anticipation, serves to enfasize the action, builds up the climax for the combat resolution, and here is flawless
It was on Syfy in 99. my mom taped it after she bought me super edition for genisis. if it werent for her doing so i probably would have'nt known it existed until years after.
Here's something to blow your minds. The composers of the music to SFII Animated Movie also composed the music for the original Baywatch TV series. And it was very similar in style. So many fans praise this soundtrack being the best for any anime ever... yet it's origins come from such a cheesy tv show :D It was two guys who composed it. John D'Andrea and Cory Lerios.

4:49 Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie
This was the backstory intro fight scene as to how Sagat got his scar on his body which was from Ryu's Shoryu-ken.

Metsu Shoryuken gave Sagat that scar (a byproduct of the Satsui no hado). But the SFII anime was before that was canonised... Times were simpler
that ending part when he releases the haduoken
