Celebrating Excellence in High School Musical Theatre
The Broadway San Diego Awards is now entering its 6th year and the competition is sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union, celebrating excellence in local High School musical theatre performers. This year’s event took place on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego. Cash awards were provided for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Musical Production.
Our two champions (one male and one female) will move on to represent our region at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards also known as the Jimmy Awards in New York in June 2019. There, they will meet and perform with champions from dozens of other regional competitions across the country and compete on a Broadway stage for a chance at winning $10,000 towards a college scholarship.

Great job kids. Unfortunately the production quality was not up to its best, i.e. sound person did not balance instruments with the singer. For example on the second girl's solo the piano was overpowering her light, delicate beginning. We're here to listen to the students as they sing, not an overpowering instrument that should be in the background supporting the singer, not trying to be the lead or star of the performance.
