I still can't believe how much water weight I lost via tears while watching this show... I think just about everyone can learn a thing or two about empathy from watching this series.
D. Void you should watch it. (If you haven't) many people have different opinions on different shows - which is why i think you really need to always give each one a try. I was skeptical going into this show but i'm really glad i watched it.
D. Void also really depends on genre of what people like i guess. Episodic ones like this and mushishi might not be everyone's cup of tea. It could also be labelled garbage by some people because it was hyped up? People on the internet these days overhype everything unlike the old days. Which is a shame as it turns people away from good things. I only had one friend recommend this show to me before i watched it. If i had swam through the hype mentions/forums/ comments like others did i may have just skipped watching this show or put it off until later.
yep and i cant wait for a season 2 but from what i learned (please dont go look) that it wont be the same as season 1. season 1 she was learning how to live for herself instead of just taking the commanders orders. season 2 well it wont be that. still i cant wait but im sure some people will have a problem with it.
I thought that Roland, the old postman guy at CH postal, played a huge role for Violet to improve herself as auto memories doll. When Violet was devastated by knowing Gilbert’s death, Roland delivered her a letter from Erica and Iris to encourage her, which reminded Violet how important her work really was for her clients, how her letters saved them. In the extra episode where Violet is tasked to write a song about people living through the war, Roland showed her the archives of undelivered letters during the war, which gave Violet the idea for the song, and also the glimpse of the meaning for “love”, as even letters from wartime held the writer’s love for someone they cared. His motto, “no letter should be left undelivered”, reminded Violet of her (and his) job’s importance of connecting people by representing their thoughts through letters. His role was minor in the main plot, much like many other support characters, but still important for Violet’s character development.
While I liked what I saw of Violet Evergarden I was unable to continue watching it. The shows portrayal of the breakdowns and distress caused by PTSD just hit a little too close to home for me. I hope to return to it someday but probably not for a while.
TheRedneckGamer1979 that’s the point of the whole show, tbh. Hope you’ve watched it or will watch it soon. The last episodes might be a bit disappointing but I still love it all.
I'm late to this the Violet Evergarden train. You're absolutely right, this show has some of the most compelling support characters I've seen in an anime, and it's thanks to their own individual journeys that I pact Violet's own journey and helping her grow. If I could take away one thing from this show, it's that when people are brought together through love, it brings out the best of us.
Personally ep7, 9 & 10. All three times for the scenes where Violet expresses her newfound emotion. Granted the stories in these three episodes are great, but by the end where Violet realized she's still burning (great flashback cuts), where she tries to strangle herself & where she cries for the others are the moments hurt the most.
Edit: I'm tired of getting the same replies from idiots that don't read replies so I'm putting this here. There's a big difference between unemotional and emotionless. Nobody without a serious disorder or brain injury is emotionless. I definitely loved the show. I'm a very unemotional person, but it's caused me to have to cry every time I hear the words "50 years of letters".
There are degrees of unemotionalness. I'm between where Violet started the series and ended it. But that scene hits me in an emotional weak spot, because of things in my life that I won't get into here. Don't confuse "little or rare emotion" with "no emotion". Nobody in real life is truly emotionless.
I think that this was one of the greatest series ever made. It's so incredibly human and I dont think id ever cried so much than I did watching Violet Evergarden. Everyone needs to see this show at some point
I really enjoyed this show. I teared up towards the last few episodes. With regards to the side characters. I felt while watching that each of the new characters introduced served as an emotional lesson to be learned for Violet. Lesson in different kinds of emotions, such as loneliness from Leon, love for a sibling from Luculia, love between a child and their parent from Ann and her mother, and the emotion of loss and mourning from Oscar, and so on. I find it amazing how well they were able to combine main character development with great side characterization. It was really impressive. Overall, Violet Evergarden was a nice change of pace, one that I sorely needed. I enjoy anime with mature themes such as this. Anyway, great video. Thanks to you I finally had the drive to watch this great show. So thank you for that.
jesus christ dude, you can’t just make me cry to a violet evergarden video. y’all remember when the guy threw her brooch off the side? i literally screamed “NOOOOOO GET IT GET IT”, i was so mortified
With an anime like Violet Evergarden, you HAVE to have a supporting cast! What I took from this anime is that Violet is not only having an affect on these characters, they are also influencing her! Did anyone notice that Anne Magnolia has a granddaughter named Daisy? I'm betting that her mother (Anne's daughter) is named Violet! Also, at the end of the movie during the "pinky swear" scene with the Major, Violet has both her parasol and her stuffed dog. That tells me that she went back to Leiden to get them and to say goodbye to everone at C. H. Postal Company.
This video made me subscribe to this channel. In my case i loved Violet Evergarden, the anime made me question how was my relationship with other people, even help me to get a little closer with my mother, with whom I had in the past a few problems. But this video made me realize that philosophy that manage to conquer me, because for a long time I was struggling with my own past, even that stopped me from something I loved doing, writing. That anime left me marked by the meticulous handling of each character ... because that (although it has not been immediately) I have been able to write again; Because it reminded me of the reason why I had started writing: Communicate to others what I felt and immortalize what other people made me feel. Good video continue with this magnificent work, I will be waiting what you are going to upload.
OMG .. I really love the way you talk about the supporting cast .. it`s like that U open my chest and look at ma heart and say what I would say about violet .. U really deserve to be one of the greatest TH-camrs
Beautiful video essay. It's been months since I watched, and loved this series down to the last second of it. You nailed all these point home on why I love it's supporting cast. It goes to show that Miss Kana Akatsuki has masterful writing that convinced KyoAni to adapt it into anime. Few animes have made a resonating and profund 8mpact like Violet #vergarden. Hell, I couldn't trade this experience for the world. Kudos to you, and more content to come
I think Sakamoto was an intentionally unrelatable character. He is an archetype. The relatable characters were the bullies. The jealous people who wanted the unflinching optimism, popularity and success that he had. We are the side characters.
Your videos are really high quality! I suspect with the proper exposure you can easily hit 300K subscribers! Your voice is really, really nice to the ear and the script is well done, so I honestly think you just need exposure now to grow a lot.
Have you seen The Ancient Magus Bride? It does a similar thing with its supporting cast especially the main supporting cast and supposed villains of the episode of the day. Its also a heavily relatable tear jerker at least for me. Highly recommend.
I was teetering on stopping that show when it started delving into more of a horror genre. About the time that Ashen Eye was introduced, the show started taking off for me.
Speaking of supporting casts, in regards of the reboot airing right now, is it possible to make a video on the Legend of the Galactic Heroes? The original OVA series have 110 episodes and it would make a great episode on warfare, ideologies in relationship between government and its people, and the importance of history.
Yeah, is very hard not burst into tears by seeing this anime, and I have seen a lot of anime, read tons of books, seeing tons of TV Shows and movies, and to me is very hard to get emotional by seeing fiction, but most of the episode of this anime seems like a punch in the stomach.
What makes a good protagonists dispite his or her Darkest past, is a good supporting cast. People to help them along whether or not they need that help or even deserve it. For me its why I like writing characters with dark pasts with there own emotional trauma amd baggage they have to haul. Thinking they can carry that wight alone. When in reality they cant. Its to severe to carry on like that alone. You need people who see you for who you are dispite the flaws of the past. To see the good and show you the good you have done to keep you away from that Darkest part of your being telling you lies like a serpent from the depths of your consciousness. Its also why i like a lot of Red Songs.
I have witnessed the deaths of some of my relatives, the pain of losing the ones people love. But I don't feel even a tiny bit of empathy towards them, I didn't even feel anything at my grandparents' funerals. Maybe it's because I don't understand what love is, but my grandparents cared about me so much, yet I don't feel anything. I can't relate to the side characters. However, I can somehow relate to Violet a little bit, I am not sure why, but her experiences resonates in me.
Thank you for this video. I had seen the series appear on Netflix and even watched the first episode, but I did not think I would like it. I nearly missed something beautiful.
I liked it but I either found that there was a little too much emphisis these these supporting characters rather than the other main supporting cast. I am talking about the characters that Violet works with. I felt more connection and familiarity with the cast you mentioned than the other, supposed, main character. Aside for one, none got an episode to themselves and my experienced suffered because of it. A lot of times when Violet was at her office building or needed something done some of her co workers were just there. I felt I didnt know them enough to explain themselves why they were there or why they did the things they did. Its been a few months but I cant remember their names, but the dark skinned busty young woman happened to be the ghost writer for the Princess's fiancee or how the very same young woman had a thing going on with the blonde guy in the office. Honestly, I found this serise almost too compelling and a bit of a serious emotional drain. I mean I wanted to cry pretty much every episode, and did for many. I would say this isn't something to watch without a tissue box handy if you are particularly empathetic lol
You are a god! You just made me binge watch you videos in one afternoon. I devoured every word you said like it was air for my lungs. Every phylosophical concept that you bring in these anime videos make me wanna go read again some Nietzsche, Platon, Sartre etc. Your channel was the missing puzzle from completing the entire way of analyzing an anime. Your chose of words are marvelous and enchanting. Please keep up the good work!
Great video I just watched vilot evergarden English dub was really enjoyed it Gilbert vilot needs a happy ending I like how vilot wanted to know about love
I binged the whole series in a couple days. Including the movies and special episodes. And it honestly made me really upset. That's because I identified too much with Violet and that feeling of emptiness. How she was always searching for that 1 person that cared about her and gave her meaning. So, I guess this series was really good
Can you do a video on the animated movie In this corner of the world. Its on Netflix right now. And its an emotional and heart warning movie. Unfortunately I feel like not that many people know about it.
I hope you will be able to read my comment. I'm not sure if you're still active in making such beautiful videos but I would like to suggest some anime that I would like to know your insights: - Babylon - Haibane Renmei - Sora yori mo Tooi Basho - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu I immediately subscribed upon watching your analysis about Monster and Serial Experiments Lain. Violet Evergarden gets more praise than it deserves IMO. The whole concept is great ( an emotionless human being, always abused and used as a weapon, that goes on a inner journey to discover her own humanity and the meaning of love) but the execution is lacking. Every episode was, my god, so sloooooow. And I'm usually ok with slow shows, I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop to name one. But the atmosphere in Violet wasn't as magical as Cowboy Bebops. There are a few cool moments, but usually evey scene drags on for too long, or it is inconsequential. In one word: BOOORING. After 9 episodes, I had to check on wikipedia if anything relevant happened, but since that wasn't the case I dropped it. I'm okay with this "inner journey" of the protagonists, but the plot must go on. I expected something big to happen, like, something that endangers the new human bonds she formed, but literally nothing happened.
"I expected something big to happen, like, something that endangers the new human bonds she formed" Well, you should have kept watching because something like that did happen. Although, I have a feeling that it would be better if you don't continue. This is obviously not a show that you will enjoy. Which is fine. Everyone doesn't have to enjoy the same shows.
Totally unrelated, I would recommend you to practice a very distinct latin pronunciation of "amor fati", because it currently sounds like "a more fatty" and it's hilarious and probably only happens in english
I still can't believe how much water weight I lost via tears while watching this show... I think just about everyone can learn a thing or two about empathy from watching this series.
Preach. So many of the side characters in this show feel incredibly important and integral to the story in order to push violet forward
D. Void eh. No
if by garbage you mean anime of the year material, then sure, it is one of the finest garbage I've ever seen
D. Void you should watch it. (If you haven't) many people have different opinions on different shows - which is why i think you really need to always give each one a try. I was skeptical going into this show but i'm really glad i watched it.

This show has made me cry more than probably any other piece of media ever, and I’m not even done with it.
yep and i cant wait for a season 2 but from what i learned (please dont go look) that it wont be the same as season 1. season 1 she was learning how to live for herself instead of just taking the commanders orders. season 2 well it wont be that. still i cant wait but im sure some people will have a problem with it.
Violet Evergarden hands down has been one of the most moving pieces of media i've ever consumed
An absolute masterpiece.
I thought that Roland, the old postman guy at CH postal, played a huge role for Violet to improve herself as auto memories doll.

I usually can't stand episodic series, but this show was the one beautiful exception.

I definitely loved the show. I'm a very unemotional person, but it's caused me to have to cry every time I hear the words "50 years of letters".
RonnocFroop
You're not unemotional then.
Not like Violet
There are degrees of unemotionalness. I'm between where Violet started the series and ended it. But that scene hits me in an emotional weak spot, because of things in my life that I won't get into here. Don't confuse "little or rare emotion" with "no emotion". RonnocFroop I am quite sure you are not "unemotional" than.
Htoo Doh Please see above.
RonnocFroop hello, what is unemotional again.
I think that this was one of the greatest series ever made. It's so incredibly human and I dont think id ever cried so much than I did watching Violet Evergarden. Everyone needs to see this show at some point
Violet evergrden is the best work of the studios.
I really enjoyed this show. I teared up towards the last few episodes.

Great job as a Vet and Orphan who lost the love of my life this series hurts in a good way
jesus christ dude, you can’t just make me cry to a violet evergarden video. y’all remember when the guy threw her brooch off the side? i literally screamed “NOOOOOO GET IT GET IT”, i was so mortified
I was so moved by the supporting cast throughout the show that i actually teared up while watching your TH-cam video. Yep.

this was a beautifully spoken analysis. thank you.
A highly recommended series, a master piece.

The feelings are mutual. Loved both Monster and Violet evergarden so much.
This is the first video of yours I watch. I also love both anime and philosophy. Just watching your video makes me wanna cry.
8:04 the supporting characters literally supported Violet with that letter
Is it just me or does a Violet Evergarden episode feels longer then other anime episodes? Like that 24 minute episode feels like an hour.
Yeah it does
Yeah cause you spend half an hour crying like a little bitch 😂 (it’s me. I’m bitch)
Episode 10 was moving. So moving in fact that it overshadows episode 11 which was a tearjerker as well.

You have both the voice and the writing to succeed on this medium
Episode 10 was a real tear jerker.
I kept going back to this beautiful video. I hope you'll come back and upload more contents. Your analysis and videos were amazing! ❤❤❤
Imagine listening to this really touching analysis...
Suddenly...
DIO VOICE.
Just reminding me of ep 10 made me start crying. Goddam that was a well made show.
I love Rosso too, definitely gonna check this one out
Thank you for this awesome video!
Well Done…worthy of an auto memories doll
I cried during the review, that's how powerful this show is.

ITS FRIGGIN 3AM WHY
Dear lord, just the mention of the sick mother angry daughter episode made my eyes all misty again... Dadgum onion ninjas strike again!
wonderful video ~^^~ very entertaining, and informative about the show's supporting cast
Have you seen The Ancient Magus Bride? It does a similar thing with its supporting cast especially the main supporting cast and supposed villains of the episode of the day. Its also a heavily relatable tear jerker at least for me. Highly recommend.

awesome video. i am loving your channel ;3
Wtf yesterday I finish this anime
What is this timing 😂😂😂
Good work on the video please continue👍
On episode 11 wondering: why am I binge watching this!? This is the saddest show I've ever seen in my life....and one of the best...
Beautifully explained!
Loved this, thanks for doing it!
Yeah, is very hard not burst into tears by seeing this anime, and I have seen a lot of anime, read tons of books, seeing tons of TV Shows and movies, and to me is very hard to get emotional by seeing fiction, but most of the episode of this anime seems like a punch in the stomach.
This video made me cry just like violet evergarden. Its so beautiful and the memories
This show is such a tear jerker
❤❤❤❤😭😭😭😭
I love this anime and you talking about it made me tear up!
Nice video!
Thank you very much for the video. You make me happy :)
I couldn't hold the tears past episode 10
glad I found this channel

Its also why i like a lot of Red Songs.
It made me cry so much.. oh no now im crying
Death Parade is criminally underrated.
Loved this series and its definitely among my top five...Also the first anime to make me cry.
Thank you for this video. I had seen the series appear on Netflix and even watched the first episode, but I did not think I would like it. I nearly missed something beautiful.

I think the biggest failing of the anime was that these coworker characters didnt get much screen time, so we suffered from a lack of familiarity, which didnt make the show as engaging and the show could have been better. (sorry this is a little messy but its an hour past my bed time)
I actually didnt pay much attention to the side characters. I was too invested in violet, mainly bc of her being a child soldier reminded me of many characters from metal gear solid. I hated how my friends disliked this anime bc it was “boring”
"That the way they viewed this issue was incorrect."
Nice explanation you got there....
Excellent content
I miss this channel :'(
i love all of youre videos pls come back
As always....worth waiting for!
Honestly, I found this serise almost too compelling and a bit of a serious emotional drain. I mean I wanted to cry pretty much every episode, and did for many.
I would say this isn't something to watch without a tissue box handy if you are particularly empathetic lol
I still can’t understand how a series made me cry like a lil bih on episode 3. dude wtf?
I love all of them
The series tath has make me cry like crazy

Her:it resonates with her
Me:my,the eye it resonates

Great video I just watched vilot evergarden English dub was really enjoyed it Gilbert vilot needs a happy ending I like how vilot wanted to know about love
I enjoyed a lot🖤
My fav is the older post man
Yes, Ep 6. They Create A New Ship.(Leon x Violet).
I found my favorite channel

Hey, will you ever make a video on Mushishi? It's one of my favourite shows and I think it deserves to be recognized more than it has already.
I hope you will be able to read my comment. I'm not sure if you're still active in making such beautiful videos but I would like to suggest some anime that I would like to know your insights:
- Babylon
- Haibane Renmei
- Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
- Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
I immediately subscribed upon watching your analysis about Monster and Serial Experiments Lain. I hope you're doing well and Stay Safe!
I love this anime
Please make more videos❤
What's the music that plays around 7:00-8:00? It sounds like a cover of one of the OSTs
notif squad!
I LOVE VIOLET EVERGARDEN
Violet Evergarden gets more praise than it deserves IMO. The whole concept is great ( an emotionless human being, always abused and used as a weapon, that goes on a inner journey to discover her own humanity and the meaning of love) but the execution is lacking.
