First comment. How do they go from spears to swords?

those are different cavs. the companion are the first cavs

By the looks of it,
'1' is charge attack
'2' is horse stomps and they throw their spear on the ground, then they switch to swords, then they only have the Zephyr Blade ability. They get their spears back at supply point.
