I do like that this video gives the most correct understanding of Goku's character and the intent of what he is supposed to represent within the context of what Toriyama wanted. Goku's not supposed to be judged by his decisions, or how heroic he is. He is supposed to be followed because he represents tenacity. He likes to take risks, he likes adventure for opportunity, and even if his choices backfire, he recognizes them as just a new challenge to push himself through. What Super did get right in the manga is that Goku knows that he tends to fight bad people, because they happen to pose the greater challenge to his own morals and power opposite to himself and he likes that. Goku represents *growth* in a word, like the video says. Others grow because of him, while he uses all his challenges to grow himself and seeks it out regardless of from whom.
I don’t understand how anyone can even slightly hate Gohan when in a alternate timeline he’s literally getting violated his whole life and saw everyone he loves die just to not be able to do anything in the end and die as well knowing he failed
I'd say gohan is a true prodigy because he can fall off and come back to the top anytime he wants to if he feels like applying himself. It's when your trying your hardest but just don't have it anymore is when you fall off gohan has surpassed people who never fell off with ease that's a goat

Gohan got his neck broken on Namek when he was 6 years old then fought space Hitler, escaped a exploding planet, fought robots from the future and beat Cell so him going to school isn’t that serious when he never even had a childhood being born as a Saiyan
The best way to have written Gohan as an adult/teen would be for him to have never forgiven himself for letting Goku take the fall for him not killing Cell. Literally taking his anger out on any antagonist & becoming sort of a bully due to the unresolved trauma. Would’ve made for a darker tone in the show but could’ve had another great character arc for Gohan instead of what we got w/ Buu.
Just a couple of corrections/points. 1. I disagree with the take Goku never fights for pride or malice. As soon as Upas dad died the search for the RRA all but became a revenge mission with tons of malice involved. It was Goku’s biggest body count in a single arc to date. Tambourine was revenge which was pure malice. After he turned SSJ it was actually both pride and malice. Pride for letting Freeza transform and humiliating him which was him asserting his dominance, prideful off his new power and revenge for Krillin. Goku isn’t as prideful as Vegeta but his cockiness he shows in most of his fights stems from pride in his power. 2. Gohan was only 5 on Namek. He was 4 when Raditz came, 11 months passed before Vegeta and Nappa came, then another month to get to Namek, give or take a few days for them to heal/Bulma to learn the required Namekian language. People tend to overlook that the gap between Namek and Freeza showing up in as much closer to 2 years than a year, so they just add a year to Gohans age out of nowhere to get to his Cell Games age. 260 days passed before Freeza arrived; they used the Namekian DBs twice and it took 130 days for them to recharge each time. We even see the first time they use them Gohans hair had grown quite a bit. THEN a year passes. This puts Gohan at just under 7. Fast forward 3 years and Gohan is almost 10. Without the RoSaT he would have had his tenth birthday around the Cell Games according to the Daizenshuu. Thats one piece of filler the anime actually got pretty much spot on. 3. Going back to Z, Gohan was never actually the one to o want to fight other than when he went back to save Goku from Vegeta. He was either forced or put into a situation where he needed to. He got kidnapped for the Saiyans and every fight on Namek as simply bad luck and bad timing. They thought they were going for a peaceful interaction with the Namekians to request to use the DBs. After that, everything was got survival. Could he have avoided Dodoria? Sure. But he basically blacked out meaning he wasn’t in control of his actions, the same with anytime he lost it. Which is potent in the culmination of his hidden power and rage (SSJ2) when he was quite literally a completely different person. The androids? Goku is the one that gets him to train. The Cell Games? Goku takes him to the RoSaT. It’s no wonder he wanted time off after Cell to enjoy, the same way he wanted time off after Boo. Great video though 👍🏽
I say it all the time, my favorite character/ transformation is SSJ2 Teen gohan in the cell saga specifically. Other than that moment, He's alright i guess
to this day im still disappointed that gohan didnt be come a fighter, even if it was different fighting from Goku and vegeta, gohan couldve been something. Vegeta fights for his pride and wanting to get stronger than goku or at very least tied up with him while Goku fights just to fight, learn and grow stronger but still gets caught off guard too many times. With gohan, i feel like it wouldnt be like either of them because he'll be fighting for his family, not training to be stronger than goku but strong enough to defend, doesnt seek for self validation but seeks to be the one who be in the front line of battle. Gohan would have the saiyan's ruthlessness, The combat knowledge of a martial artist, and the know how of a strategist. Truly a character worthy of being the main protag
The cell saga isn’t the peak of Gohan’s story. The latest chapters of the Dragonball super manga before Toriyama’s passing showed that Gohan hasn’t tapped into the full depths of his potential at all. He continues to improve, and no doubt he’ll be crucial in defeating black Frieza whenever he makes his move. Fighting and training are something that Gohan does, but it’s not who he is. So unless there’s a constant threat looming, Gohan has other things to focus in his life ( unlike Goku) so that’s why he doesn’t train 24/7. What’s the point in protecting a family if you don’t prioritize spending actual time with them.
For a character I don't think Gohan had to be the strongest character at all times, especially if his potential is treated like plot armor he doesn't have to work for. Future Gohan was the best version of the character in my opinion because of that. The Orange Star High arc had potential for a realistic Gohan. I just think they should have done better to balance Gohan with both wanting to be an Earthling and a Saiyan after the Buu arc and his failures with Super Buu and Dabura, to then have him *grow from that* and reflect on them instead of constantly resetting him.
