THE COWBOYS is one movie where all the "Boys" got their 15-minutes of never-ending fame... they all got their turn with good lines and close-ups!
Whether they went on to make a big HOLLYWOOD career or not, they each got incredible iconic memories from being in such a classic western.
Its great that Rob gives them a platform to share their own unique memories... they're not boys anymore and they don't movies like THE COWBOYS anymore either!

Just to show how times have changed,at one time shows like this would be on "mainstream tv".. our generation watching programs produced by the generation that made these films. Thanks to our great host and his great show for keeping our childhood alive. .. I'm 67 and these still resonate with me today.

That was awesome. I love these interviews.
I was almost 10 when I watched this. It was a formative experience sitting in that theater. It starts one way, all kind of lighthearted. Then boy!-howdy, did it take a turn. I was at an age were I could really relate and I was thoroughly riveted to the very end.
If I known then what I know now, I'd have simply been jealous as hell at those lucky kids getting to make that movie. Now...well, now I'm jealous of Rob getting to do what he clearly loves.
Thanks Team WoW! Kudos on another great interview.

I was in my 20s when this movie came out, and even at that add I didn’t want to see a movie where John Wayne died! I still haven’t seen this movie, but I did see The Shootist. This movie was made at a politically divisive time Mark Rydell and decided if he had to direct the conservative Wayne he would make him uncomfortable by hiring mostly liberals. It didn’t work because Wayne was such a cooperative fun loving guy everyone ended up loving him, especially Mark Rydell. At least that is what I’ve heard. Thank you Rob!

What a wonderful interview!!!! There is just one problem. .... It was not long enough!!!! I honestly think I could watch Mr. Word interview these now grown men for hours. There are so many things I would like to know; so many stories I would like to hear. "The Cowboys" is such a great movie. It may be 50 years old, but it never seems old to me. It is timeless. And now, thanks to today's too short episode of AWOW, while many Americans will be watching Sunday afternoon football, I am going to watch "The Cowboys" again for perhaps the 100th time. It doesn't matter if it is the 2nd or the 99th time I watch it. It still makes me laugh and cry all over again. Thank you AWOW, Steve and Sean. You made my day!!!! God bless!!!!

I have been a John Wayne fan since the early 1960s. I guess my memories go back to about 1963, some 1962. I was born near the end of 1957 BTW. John Wayne is the only Individual who has not just 1, but 2 Subsections in my DVD Collections notebook, and has movies in 3 Subsections. John Wayne has his own Subsection in John Wayne Westerns, Non Western John Wayne in my Classics section, and has a few movies in my Action Subsection History by Timeline Action. WW2 and of course Green Berets when it comes to Vietnam. If he had done Korean War films they would have been in between.

It's a little unnerving seeing these kids at this age. Although I've seen "The Cowboys" many times since, 1971 doesn't seem all that long ago. I clearly recall going to see it with my final high school girlfriend. She hated it; I loved it. Well, she actually liked it when Wayne was killed, at least. As it has always been and continues to be, many, many people just can't separate the artist's work from the person's real life. Wayne wasn't exactly a popular guy with my age group, although he was an exceptional actor and Rydell was one of the brightest filmmakers of the era. But if these two kids have aged that much since that not-long-ago 1971, I'm afraid that means that I have, too. Ouch.

Regarding "Red River": Made in '46 but because of legal issues with Howard Hughes (A story in itself), not released until '48. Said to have been Wayne's best performance to date. No longer "The Kid" anymore, and marking his entrance into a new more mature phase that would carry him through the rest of his career.
Only problem with that is, three films (his 87th counting all those quicky oaters and serials he did in the 30s) and a full two years *after* "Red River", he made "Three Godfathers" with Ford. Playing a youthful Bob Marmaduke... (Haw! Haw! Haw!) Sangster Hightower, seeming to have lost at least a decade in age from Tom Dunson, he was at forty, the albeit somewhat more mature but still "The Kid". Again. For at least one last time.

Warner Brothers is right about the high cost of transferring 35 mm into digital. As an independent production company we ran across that same cost shock. We ended up incinerating 35 mm prints and throwing the rest in a debris box. That includes B movies that were shot in the Alabama Hills.

Thank you for continuing this series, I have seen each one you posted and am truly grateful so many of them made the trip to Fort Worth Texas historic Stock Yards this past summer, I was one of the lucky ones to get tickets to the private meet and greet, it was truly one of the highlights of my adult life meeting so many of them, The TickToks I made of the meetings still get views and comments to this day. Thank you so much.
