"The Parisian pianist and composer Alexandre-Édouard Goria (1823-1860) studied at the Paris Conservatoire - with Pierre Zimmerman, teacher of Alkan and Franck - and later wrote salon pieces and studies (his best-known work was his Op. 7 concert study). He was a friend of Louis Moreau Gottschalk."
Therefore, Alexandre was around 24 years old, when he wrote this piece.
Personally, I really like the chromatic, subtle theme in F minor and the almost Liszt type agitato near the end. ---
I have now played a couple of pieces from Goria and it's always a hit for me and never a miss. I like his style of composing a lot. It's very characteristic and romantic of course

yes i think i know that. this is when you don't try too hard the first time and let the muscle memory play... then the second time you actively try to make it better and then intervene with the muscle memory and it will be worse

I compared back to back the two performances of yours. Former appeared faster but was just my false impression because 18 seconds out of 4.5 minutes is irrelevant. It appeared also little softer in touch than current but I prefer current because of firm, yet delicate, touch is IMHO more appropriate (otherwise it appears little shy). In conclusion you improved performance, as I see with more self confidence. The piece is extremely attractive. Side note: you answered to my comment on your first performance by promising to explore more Goria 🙂............ Would be really grateful because he's still completely ignored

The question "why?" in the leit motif will never be answered. The embellishments in scales and cords talk about twists and turns, ups and downs - which is our lives, all nostalgic, all wistful.
