Nice video! You missed one crucial part, though. The red repro cart is the perfect candidate to store your ROMs on - it's re-writable. I usually buy a stash of these repro carts, remove the labels and flash my ROMs onto it. Before I found this trick I saved my ROMs on my Everdrive until I realized how much that drains the batteries.
Yeah! Good point. I didn't know these repro carts were rewritable until recently. I'm thinking of doing the same as you and getting a stash of them. I hear not all work though, do you have particular ones you get?
Had you backed up your original pokemon save before restarting it? I feel like me from 25 years ago would have really loved this ability, to be able to start a new pokemon game and keep the old one.
No, my original save was long gone. It was more fun to erase it and start over! But yeah, if I had this power 25 years ago I totally would have copied it before starting!
Hey dude. GB to GB transfer of Roms is easy and you can also transfer save data, okay. But HOW do I transfer my save data from my GBA to use it in my emulator?
A flashed copy if possible. Going through the ez flash UI to get to a game can be annoying... I also like to play one game at a time too, so the convenience of having a bunch of ROMs on the ez flash is lost.
Were you able to backup the save from the copy of red? I ask because I just recently got a copy of Gold off ali express and my starter pokemon turned out to be shiny on the first pick so Im trying to get the save off as fast as possible and onto my modded 3ds so I can transport it all the way to the switch.
Ok, just tried this. I was able to backup the save and use it in an emulator. I had some problems getting a good connection with the cartridge and it didn't work, but after taking it out and trying again it eventually worked fine
You can use any ROM, no matter the source. You do have to be careful that the ROM and cartridge are compatible (I should have mentioned this in the video). For one the cart you're writing to needs to have enough space for the ROM and save. Second most gameboy cartridges have a chip called an MBC (memory bank controller) and there are different versions of them. So a ROM that needs an MBC5 wouldn't work on a cart that only supports an MBC3. Some games also expect additional circuitry in the cartridge like a real time clock (RTC). If the writable cart doesn't have that then it may not work or will just be missing features.

I wish I had backed up my 25 year old save from Red… alas the battery died taking my mew along with it

good, nvm. figured it out :]
What do you prefer for your FPGBC? A flashed copy or the EZ flash junior?

Oops. Sorry about my spelling errors. The M should have been an R. My bad.
Did I miss a comment?
Will the flash carts work using a regular GBC?
Yup! They should. Usually these things work better on original hardware

Nice! I didn't try but I will now and let you know

@systemoflevers awesome thanks for letting me know! I can't wait to get this shiny cyndaquil off this fake cart!
Good luck! I hope it works out
Can you use any backup rom to create a bootleg? or does it have to be from a legit cartridge?

@@systemoflevers oh ok thanks good to know, I just bought a gba and this will come in handy.
Oh nice, which gba did you get?
@@systemoflevers the normal gba, plan on installing a new screen
Cool! I love the original form factor and the new screen will make it great. Enjoy!
