    Dude...you are the "luckiest" guy. You win a $1K welding machine, you got your circular table saw for free and your friend happens to have a perfect piece of angle aluminum for your Pelican case. You have great Karma. Love your vids.

      I didn't know how to weld, still don't really. But, I bought a $100 welder at Harbor Freight a year ago, and I'm learning. What I do isn't pretty, but it's already saved me a bunch of time and money repairing my mower decks.

    cutting board material is usually High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). It is a great material. Easy to cut, easy to machine. Tough. Abrasion resistant. Usually comes in white, but you may be able to find it in black.

    grade 8 hardware for the hinges! that there must be some mighty plywood :) love that this is done without cable stays. Do you ever find it too unleveled if parked on an undesirable angle? currently putting something similar together, and thought-could add in a bolt mounted to the table that turns against the hinge and adjusts the angle of the table from 90 > ~80 (relative to the tire carrier)

    Nice job and thank you for the video. I'm in the market for a swing out tire Carrier. I have checked out the top 3 companies. I'm very disappointed in the price tag they have on these. Anywhere from $1400 to $2000........ totally ridiculous. I will be building my own. Keep the videos coming

    This is exactly what im looking to have built for my 2005 avalanche. Love this setup for camping/trailing. If theres anyway i could get in contact with you and you would be interested in building a similiar set up. Im willing to pay/leave the truck there for the design.

    Nice build. A bit off topic (but since they made a brief appearance), but how many kids do you have and how old are they? Is your son in a forward facing seat? Is the Tacoma spacious enough for your family and all of your gear? Thanks!

    • @OverlandUnderBudget
      @OverlandUnderBudget  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Ive got two kids under 5 years old. We can all fit in the truck and have done some long road trips but its TIGHT! haha not to much extra room in these little trucks. Thats fine for right now, when i take the kids im only out for really short trips. I also daily drive the truck and for just normal daily use its totally fine with all of us.

    Wouldn’t leave your license plate taped to your back glass. Not only for theft but it can just decide to fall off, mainly theft. I lost a plate just from it rattling loose in the stock location using stock style mounting hardware

    • @OverlandUnderBudget
      @OverlandUnderBudget  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man you are right, and you probably guessed it but that just temp location since the bumper was coming off right after the video and headed to the new owner.

    • @SOLDADITO76
      @SOLDADITO76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking so. I will hopefully start my own bumper build this month, had the same idea as dimension wise and look in the long run. I plan on doing a center mount tire carrier because I plan on running jerry can racks on both sides. That may change down the line cause I'm thinking of building a rack system to cage in my canopy. I guess extra cans can't hurt, I figure you always need water on long trips out.

    For people who want to build things like this, metal cutting surfaces will kill your knives (not to mention paint or coatings you don't want in your food) so please take a few minutes to research food safety. Most wood will be terrible for germs. I would make a stainless steel or aluminum tray (maybe even perforated to prevent standing water) with a recess for a removable food grade plastic cutting board.

    • @Upliftyourbrothers
      @Upliftyourbrothers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Metal cutting surfaces will kill your knives, but you’d make a stainless one? Did I read that right?

    • @OverlandUnderBudget
      @OverlandUnderBudget  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Adam thanks for the concern. I think i wasn't that clear, i dont cut and prepare food directly on the table surface. I have a cheap and super thin set of cutting boards that i keep in my camp kitchen. The steel top makes for really quick clean up, doesn't allow water to soak into the wood and its really durable . Your right, cutting or prepping food on a spray painted surface like this wouldn't be the best.
