    I have me a commercial mauser 98 . Its a Centurion 123 30.06, santa barbara action from spain. Made in pasadena california, Golden state arms corps. Its a very beautiful rifle. Will be my big game rifle. I dropped a moose with my 270 Browning BAR so next time the mauser 98 will get a chance to impress.

      1900, 1940, 2020 - Wine makers would be jealous if they made wine cuz there's no bad year! I'd love to have a WWII Mauser but those are getting a bit rare so I'll settle for this one with a Russian or Swarovski scope. That 3-position safety is very handy for checking your chamber. Ze Germans are STILL pretty good at making firearms. (I should know, I own a .45 H&K USP and it's accurate and very reliable).
      Note: before laughing, the Russians have plenty of experience making glass. My father bought a Soviet era captain's telescope from a Romanian gypsy in Bucharest in the 1990s. It beat out new Japanese binoculars costing ten times more and the optics were top notch even for the 1980s.

    I was really interested in this rifle however it is offered in more calibers in Europe than here in the states. I wish they would offer it in all the calibers here. I know it's considered an obsolete caliber here but I was wanting it in the 7x57 Mauser that is only offered to Europe.

    Nice informative video and good shooting. I noted that she had difficulty closing the bolt on EVERY cycle. (Maybe because the rifle was as new or she just needed to develop the right rhythm.)

    • @jamesdewer
      @jamesdewer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does that, mine is starting to loosen up at around 80rds. Might be it needs a few rounds to break in. I've been shooting primarily hand loaded Nosler 180gn green tip and Speer grandslam(?) 165gn. It's a great shooting piece. The trigger is out of this world.

    • @peterwhyte4526
      @peterwhyte4526 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jamesdewer The M18 needs a relatively big shove to chamber a round as the 60 degree bolt rotation gives less throw and less leverage than a 90 degree throw. Not a biggie but you do need to be fairly deliberate when closing the bolt.

      Plus you will feel confident that the brand knows what it is doing, Mauser is so good making rifles that the Germans who plotted Hitler's death had a backup plan: they'd shoot him far away with a Mauser sniper rifle. They opted for a bomb because the British complained it would be too difficult to get a sniper nest in the right spot to kill him at his vacation home, the Eagle's Nest.
