Hello Dan, I have a lot of room in my TFSA, that's why I am looking for an ETF resided in Canada, with canadian only holdings, where I wouldn't have to pay witholding taxes on dividends. I currently own XEI on that account. I wonder which ETF would be a better option.
@@StocktradesLtd Correct! That's why I own XEI in my TFSA, but I was wondering if there are better options out there (dividend growth etf) that I can use instead of XEI. Thanks man!
Keep ‘em coming Dan. Love your content. I prefer video content to articles as I’m not a strong reader. I can ingest more information quicker, and along with the visuals I just find I learn things better through video.
XST is super defensive, but not very diversified. 25% is made of ATD which has had amazing performances, so XST has also had amazing performances. It only holds about 10 titles.
Thanks Dan, what would you recommend as possible alternatives? Just wondering about your thoughts on park lawns year end results and brief stint with Brookfield. I was surprised to see high stock based comps based on earnings and over all profits for the year.
@@StocktradesLtd Possibly. Could be a nice addition to suggest alternatives as a bonus. I know there's a few of these high dividend etfs out there. Seems like you're sticking to ETF themed videos (for now), but you could do a balanced model Blossom/stocktrades etf portfolio.
What are your thoughts of a retiree owning HPYT, which is a covered call etf on US treasuries, in the fixed income portion of a portfolio. It pays over a 10% yield, and investing in treasuries is about as dull as it gets, except the yield stands out
Thanks, great fund review! The more I research, the more I am inclined to agree with you in regards to the prioritization of dividends. It's just hard to match the satisfaction of seeing those distribution notifications. Although my portfolio balance at the time of retirement might do just that :P.
What do you think of Simplify SVOL for retirement distribution?. It's has attractive yielding 16.49%, upside returns are not capped, yet risky and different from covered calls etfs their upside returns are capped. Do you know what is Schedule K-1 and what it means for Canadian investor?
EIF deserves a review and some light shone on it. High monthly dividend and appears that management is competent achieving growth and some thru acquisition
Canada is just 3 to 4% of global companies market cap., so it is better to have lesser allocation to TSX 60 and also avoid buying an ETF just for dividends. Overall growth and dividends both are important.
What dividend ETFs do you own, if any? Make sure to comment down below on what fund you want us to go over next, and make sure you subscribe to the newsletter!
In my RRSP account, XIC, XAW and CWW (water ETF) small position. In my TFSA, I'm still learning from these videos, not sure what I want, I'm leaning towards ZLB right now.
Good video!! I am just taking over my portfolio from a Wealth Manager and am wanting to simply the over 100 investments they had me in - so doing a lot of research to try to find low cost quality dividend paying funds in Canada - if there actually is any??
I own XEI for high dividend and XIU for moderate dividend/growth. I don’t like to own ETFs in cash account because return of capital is part of most ETFs distribution. From what I hear, it’s up to us to keep track of book value although your brokerage supposed to do it but not accountable for tax purpose. Every time we get ROC, we need to adjust the book value so we don’t get into trouble when we eventually sell the etf, book value is what you paid minus ROC. Have a question, perhaps a silly one. Do you know if ETF price movement during trading hours strictly based on the stocks it holds or there are more to it, like daily/average volume. Thanks
Its funny, this was one of my first holdings as an investor because I was taking advice from "investment proffessionals" and luckily I quickly realized all the things you mentioned here and divested from it. This is the fund that taught me to do my own research.
Call me stupid or unsophisticated, but I don't get why anyone puts any money into dividend stocks. To me they are as bizarre as bonds. No growth! Also, if you have a small portfolio and due to the need for diversification, you invest $500, even $1000, the yield is insignificant. Couche-tarde and BDT make sense to me, Baba makes sense to me. Heck, even gold makes sense to me (although for a different reason). But dividend stocks or ETFs?. Everybody talks about dividends for the retired. Geez, I buy and hold for 5 - 8 years. And I am approaching 70. Dividends, schmividends!
Was a fan of this etf but switched with XDIV. Canadian blue chip companies that probably arent going anywhere. And canadian market is pretty much just good for Dividends minus a handful of growth. XEI is way to randomly diverse. No growth in it
I'm the winner comment of the day from yesterday. I wrote an email to Mat and one to Dan, no answer yet. Should I email support? Dan said to email him.
Thanks for the videos. Have you ever covered TGED
Not yet!
Another comprehensive analysis. Thanks. I got rid of mine but still regret it buying it in the first place.
Glad I could help!

Hi there. Dividends from Canadian corporations generally do not have withholding tax

i like the new focus on ETFs Dan, keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
So many ETF's tied to the S&P/TSX, makes my head swim picking any. Thanks for the insight.
More ETFs than stocks these days haha

I'd have to look into the fund
Great video Dan. I remember when i had join stockrades, etf wasn't started yet in your channel. It will be great to get back with stocktrades.

Great video! Very informative and helpful to know about this ETF. Can you make a video about ZWC, if not already available? Many thanks again 😇
Great suggestion!
I don’t buy anything with less than a 9% dividend yield but I’m very focused on retiring sooner than later.
