  • I'm planting potatoes, broad beans, carrots, onions, mange tout, lettuce and sweet peas.
    Discuss the allium leaf miner, while on camera one literally landed on the onions in front of me.
    What seeds I have been sowing over the last two weeks plus what I will be sowing this week.
    Including how I have had full germination for courgette and pumpkin seeds using a particular method.
    There are views of the wild flowers that have all self seed in various beds.
    All the wild flowers are out forget me knots and blue bells to attract pollinators and wildlife.
    All beds are organic, with the borders benefiting from bark mulch.
    Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed it.

    Hi Ady., first time watcher, Charlottes are classed as a determinate variety 🪴 Steve

      Thank you for watching and commenting Steve, I have actually done further research and covered this in the last video.
      You may be surprised by the answer. Thanks again Ady

    Hi Ady. To answer your question, Charlotte potatoes are second earliest which means they are determinate, as are all first and second earliest. My favorite for flavour is home guard! All the best mate x.

      @adysveggarden  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you Fergus, I've just looked up home guard and it has a good reputation for flavour and is a first early. I may try that next year. Thanks again.

      @@adysveggarden this variety was developed in 1942 for the wartime government's, dig for Britain campaign which encouraged people to turn over their cottage gardens, of flowers and shrubs, to growing their own food to ease the burden of the war years. They didn't take off commercially as yields are smaller than other varieties but they became very popular with home growers and did very well in Ireland! I'm 65 and my dad used to grow them and to my taste they ar the nicest tasting potatoes. This year I have nineteen, 30 litre tubs which I'll probably start to harvest at the end of June or early July! I will try for maybe 30 tubs next year.
      I do hope you'll try them and if you do, please post and let us know. I'm subbed to your chanel so will be following your progress. Good luck fella and thanx for posting x.

      Thank you Fergus, that's a very good recommendation, we like flavour over quantity which is why we have in the past grown ratte potatoes. Thanks again.

    Garden is looking great Ady! Charlotte is a second early so the general rule of thumb is that they are determinate. Generally, it's only the main crops that are indeterminate.

    That's a good idea to remove just the infected leaves, I'll check ours next time I'm down at the allotment as I've not netted the onions or garlic. I will net our leeks when I transplant them to their final positions though, as last year they all suffered. Your garden's looking great, I love all the colour!

    • @adysveggarden
      @adysveggarden  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Stéphanie, I think I will regularly check the leaves now and take off any damaged leaves just in case especially if I see a row of obround marks, so that it just becomes another routine to do. Apparently leeks are there favorite allium again this is the luck of the draw, two years ago I lost most of my leeks and last year all fine.
      Good luck with your leeks this year they really are one of our favorite vegetables to eat.

    Wow, Ady, you've been really busy. Well done 👏
    The garden is looking full, and the sea of blue Forget-me-nots 😍 Beautiful
    I thought Charlotte are determinate, but would it matter if you're growing in the pots anyway? I find keeping a little space for the very top of the indeterminate available for further mulching, but really just filling the pots up to the top in one go...to make sure there is as much of food available for the tubers from soil and fertilizer mix as possible 😊💚🌿

    Hi Ady there are hundreds of flies trapped in my garlic net 😮😮, not sure if they are leaf minor flies, i hope not. My flies look black. Im going to Google it after this.👍👌🙏💪😁🤞

      Good Luck Nick, look up the run marks and tracks on leaves, the eggs will have only been laid recent so plenty of time just take the effected leaves off.

    Never ending jobs now Ady but we get there don’t we. Have only seen a few ladybugs 🐞 but hoping once it warms up 🤞🤞. I hate flies they remind me of garbage 🤢 but it’s thst time when they all start hatching. 😅 like anything ask and you’ll get 10 different answers Charlottes are listed as determinate but can show traits of indeterminate so if that’s not confusing I don’t know what is 😂😂. Lovely garden. Can I ask about the four hooked rods in your onion bed (at 3:11), did you buy them or make them?
