I think the main reason why they are open is to provide income to villagers and to maintain these sites More or less like you go visiting/praying in churches. Can't believe it you guys didn't do the Nang Ann cave.
Yes we did consider it but we thought it looked artificial in the images and we like a bit more of an adventure, plus the entry costs a lot more than the other caves nearby!

There were many places in thakhek where you can rent, or you could buy a bike instead
