I needed this explanation, and I thank you so much for sharing it. It's taken me several weeks to get my head wrapped around the subtleties of UCS/storage/MDS/zoning/wwpn/target/initiator/masking/device-alias configs and this put it in perspective for me. THANK YOU!

I appreciate the way the video was made. Can you share how you created the video? I'd like to know how you made it look like you were standing in front of a green scree and how you could see what it was that was "behind" you so that you could point to appropriate areas of the screen. Thanks!

Just one thing I want to clarify for myself. We have HBA at the host end which contains WWPN but what exactly we call to which contains the storage WWPNS?
Is it FC adapters or something like that?

So, essentially, you need manual static IP config for all devices and manually create your routing tables / firewall on the switches from scratch. Holy crap what a nightmare. I take it these switches are not auto-sensing, lol. Question - you didnt mention ipv4 or ipv6 networks. Do tcp/ip networks not apply in SANs? Is this outside the realm of the OSI model? What scenarios would make a coverged network adapter a better solution than a network adapter / hba pair? I’m subscribing. You have a new student :)
