  • Today I am going to be riding 35 hours from Los Angeles to Seattle on Amtrak's Coast Starlight train. Well that was the plan, until things took an unexpected turn.
I booked the best sleeper car onboard, enjoy incredible coastal views, and indulge in delicious food.

LIQUOR!!! The views are exceptional and the quiet comfort of your own room on the train is epic

Fine entertaining video. We did the Seattle to San Francisco return in February a while back and really enjoyed it. Loved the views getting into Sacramento shortly after sunrise and the frolicking lambs along the tracks in Oregon. Did have a delay in the Shasta mountains going south.

You could have got off at San Jose and took the plane from San Jose to New York. Or when you got off the train and Oakland take the Bart to San Bruno which is where San Francisco airport is in and stayed at a hotel next to the airport. OR... Get off the train in San Jose and take the Bart to San Bruno and stay at a hotel next to the San Francisco airport. Anything is better than fighting the San Francisco Bay area rush hour.

If you haven't done the California zipper, I highly suggest it. The best time is in the winter with all the Snowy Scenery. Also check out The Canadian Via Rail From Vancouver BC To Toronto Or Even Go On To Nova Scotia. 1st Class is UNBELIEVABLE, you will feel like you are on a Cruise Ship. Enjoy Your Adventures!! Hi Jordan. Oh no!!! Your going to be in my neck of the woods. I am wondering if I should take the train to see my childhood friend in Florida. Her husband said he would come and get me so we could fly together. I still want to see about prices and if the train goes to Daytona. The flights aren't much money but would still check it out. This is my dream to travel on a train. We are getting some snow here tonight and all day tomorrow. It is supposed to snow again on Wednesday and all next week. We have had a very mild winter with temps in the high 40's and low 50's. I want a blizzard. Thank you Jordan for sharing

I took my kids to their trains back to college half an hour before the scheduled arrival time, but one needs to allow more time than that if a passenger has lounge access at a larger station and wants to use the lounge. (My husband and I will have a 2-hour layover in Chicago at the end of September between the Lincoln Service's arrival and our departure on the California Zephyr, so we should have time to try that lounge then.)

That’s a shame you couldn’t get to Seattle. Glad you got refunded that part of the trip and got a flight out of San Francisco! By the way not sure if you knew, but prior to February 2018 the Coast Starlight had another type of lounge car called” the Pacific Parlour car that was open to the sleeping car passengers! I wish they could put that back on

just discovered your channel. I have to say this video was so inspiring. Justin (my guy) and me live in San Diego, CA. And my dream was always to take the train from San Antonio to St.Louis in your featured First class. It completely convinced me that we will make that trip. Mr Justin keeps on telling me oh honey it takes so much time and I`ll be so far away from my surfboards. (he is devoted to surfing and the pacific well, a real surfer dude.....) If it would be a flight it would be ok for him. BUT I will show him your video plus comments. You`ve been a big help to achieve my goals.

The Coast Starlight is an awesome train..In fact, I’ve travelled on all the trains out of Los Angeles, and I can say that 35 hours isn’t nearly enough time on board. I never want to get off an Amtrak train at the end of the line…Never. Just a heads up….The food on trains east of the Mississippi is not nearly as tasty. This menu is called the Flexible menu, and is made up of mostly microwaved entries. Your menu on the Coast Starlight was the Traditional Menu.

We just took the same train and had a bedroom. Two comments: First Amtrak positions the cars so the California coastline is on the side of the train opposite the bedroom windows (only Amtrak is capable of this), and second, we had to endure the smell of sewage for the entire trip...it permeated the whole car and seemed to be pushed through the AC vents. I could go on about the lack of internet and the uselessness of the in-room thermostat, but why bother.
