I just finished reading this series for the first time last year at age 61 and plan to reread it again this year--loved it so much! Great book talk here. My husband is planning to read it for the first time this year. When I took the sorting test, I got Griyffindor.

Also in prisoner of azkaban lupin explains when James saved severus's life. It was when Sirius convinced Snape to go to the shrieking shark during the full moon when lupin was a werewolf and James went in and pulled him out of there before wereworf lupin could kill him

I'm on book 7 (just started it and haven't been spoiled for much yet) and it's also my first time reading the series so you're not alone there. Trust me, this series will change your life for the better. I've never felt so invested in a story as I am with the Harry Potter series and you probably won't either, so prepare yourself for a journey you will never forget for the rest of your life.

I read the first book in third grade. I didn't really know what it was about, only that it was about wizards, and I had seen the books lying around the house. I also knew my dad had read them and LOVED them. So on the day we had library that week (we had library time too) I picked up the first one. Loved it instantly, read it in a matter of days. Then afterwards I borrowed the books from my dad, who was thrilled I had just picked up the first book on my own. Read the whole series in about a year, and I loved it. Harry Potter is and will always be my favorite series of all time.

The first time I was introduced to Harry Potter was in 1st grade. My mom read the first two chapters to me, and I already loved it so much that after she went downstairs, I picked up the book, read the first two chapters again, and then the rest of the book myself. The Harry Potter series is one of my favorite things in the whole entire world, and it makes me sad that none of my friends want to read it. :( I love these booktalks because it's sort of like talking to one of my friends about the books. Thanks for making these Christine😊❤️

I JUST started re-reading the HP series, and it's been years since I've done that. I love your reviews of the book series!! So much to hear your thoughts on this beloved series. I'm having a blast remembering how I felt when I first read the book. Like, I remember hating Uncle Vernon for not letting Harry recieve his letter, and I loved that Harry was able to make friends with Ron so quick and it was great that Ron was so kind to Harry. And then I just absolutely adore the trio!
Anyway, I was in high school when I began reading the books. I precisely remember seeing the first book on display in the library when I was in 7th grade, and I thought, "This looks like such a kid's book. I'm too old for this." I was an idiot. LOL A few years later, one of my friends was a big fan of HP so she and I went to go watch the second HP film opening weekend, and that was when I was like, "OK I have to read the books." I remember finishing the fourth book right before summer break, and then shortly after that the fifth book was released so I was feeling really good that I didn't have to wait long for the fifth book. LOL I then spent most of my family's camping trip reading book five. I would read out parts that I really liked during our car ride up to the mountains to my brothers, but none of them cared because they weren't HP fans.
    Excited for your CoS review!

James saved snapes life during the full moon when remus was being all werewolfy and snape was already suspicious and everything, and i think james and sirius got into a fight over something, and sirius bumped into snape and he told snape about the tree and how to make it stop moving, and i think james found out and pulled snape out of the shrieking shack in time or else snape would've come in contact with werewolf remus and died??? I think this was in chamber of secrets but im not sure

J.K. Rowling actually wrote something about Peeves on pottermore. Poltergeist are not ghosts, and they were never people to begin with. Peeves has more in common with a boggart or other magical creature actually. A poltergeist usually formed where there's lots of young people living. And J.K. Rowling also wrote that throughout the years there has been countless effort to remove Peeves, but they all ended in failure. I learned a lot of new stuff about Harry Potter from pottermore actualy! You should check some of Rowling's pottermore's writing out.

Way back in school, Sirius set up a "prank" in which Snape would come across Lupin while he was a werewolf--an insanely dangerous and reckless thing to do. James saved Snape then, which enraged the latter. So technically (because Dumbledore is way sneaky) he was kinda/sorta telling the truth.

YES, XTINE, YOU READ MY MIND! I remember waiting for the letter when I was 11 ahahah and how I started the series younger than Harry but finished it a year older. Harry Potter is my childhood and adolescence, no other book will ever compare.
I used to read the series from the start every christmas and every summer and just reading one or two randomly throughout the year, so I have no idea how many times I read them. I stopped the year the last film came out. BUT I did it again this year for christmas and it was like coming home.

I'm so happy I found this channel! I love your excitement for books and reading! It pretty much got me back into reading again and now I discuss with/rant to my fiancé about the books I read XD Thanks for having such an awesome channel! As for reading the Harry Potter books, I read the Sorcerer's Stone and the Prisoner of Azkaban at age 14, and the Half-Blood Prince at 17. I went ahead and watched the all the films for the first time at the age of 18 or 19 because it was the easiest way around my (extremely) religious dad so he couldn't find out. I felt so happy to finally be in on the biggest book/films of my childhood. I felt like a kid again, and my imagination/creativity expanded so much more! Now that I'm watching you, it REALLY makes me want to go to the library and check out the entire Harry Potter series and marathon through them :) Again, thanks for being an awesome book nerd and sharing your goofy thoughts!

I just finished the book today and im hooked, I had actually heard it prior to now back in sixth grade (however I barely remembered anything but the sorting hat and lemon drops) my teacher was going to have the class each take turns reading it out loud, although being a smart and shy kid I found a way to get out of out-loud reading, I just had my parents write a note saying I wasn't aloud to read this. so every day in class I got to sit there and draw for the whole hour and a half period but I still heard the story since the class read out loud. very glad I did hear it though otherwise I probably wouldn't have returned to the book today

I remember seeing as interview with JK on the Rosie show, and I think that was the first time I heard about the series. I was in Middle School but my Brother was still in Elementary, and the Elementary school was having their Scholastic Book Fair, so bought the paper back of Sorcerer's Stone there. After finishing that my mom took me to get the second. I hadn't really had a strong interest in reading and even had trouble with it in Elementary, so she was happy I found something I loved to read. I had to wait for the third to come out, and every release after that I had to get the book the day it was released.

4:28 There's an early interview where J. K. Rowling confirms the official pronunciation as "Vol-de-mor", with a silent T. She eventually took to saying "Voldemort" with the T, because nobody cared... I've been pronouncing it without the T ever since I found this out.

Bought all three of the illustrated editions this afternoon and just finished the first novel. I think it must’ve been over a decade since I last read it, been just doing movie marathons instead. There were many small details I’d forgotten which were left out of the movie
Thoughts I had while reading -
    - Those three “adults” actually left baby Harry out in the open, at night, all alone on the floor 😱 talk about child endangerment
    - Hagrid attacking Dudley course he was pissed at Vernon was really wrong. This grown ass giant of a man just assaulted an 11 year old kid. Not cool Hagrid
Nice review . Will come watch your Chambers video after I finish reading the book tomorrow

I started reading Harry Potter in 3rd grade too! I can’t remember reading the first few but I remember specific moments reading the 4th book; outside and I remember my sister being mad at me because I didn’t answer her because I couldn’t hear because I was so into the book. I am now rereading them a few years later and am so excited.

I read in like first grade. It was probably the first real book I ever read on my own. I remember my father giving it to me and I didn't want to read it at first, but as soon as I started I completely fell in love with it and read all of the other ones, too and even though I love all of them the first one is just so special to me. I'm probably going to read it to my kids.

I read them in 2008 the summer before I went into fourth grade and had discovered them because well it was Harry Potter. Haha but I immediately fell in love with it and actually read it at the same time as my mom and of course she finished them faster but it was so amazing to be able to experience this world with her for the first time and we would discuss it all the time. Ah favorite series ever ❤️❤️

When I first read Harry Potter, I was 10, and I went with my family to the movies and watched Deathly Hallows Part 1 and I had no idea what was going on, I hadn't even HEARD of Harry Potter yet. Then I decided I would read the books and watch the movies before the next movie came out, and I ended up reading the books twice because I loved them so much. They really kickstarted reading for me and so far I've read them 8 times, they are a yearly re-read for me!

I remember my mom reading and loving all the books, but I being a dumb person refused to read them for so many years. I'll never forget when I first opened Sorcerers Stone and actually gave it a chance, after reading the first page I was hooked! I read through the entire series within a month or two and waited for Deathly Hallows to come out in a long line at the book store with my mom.

I read the first four books in 3rd and 4th grade. I hardly remember reading them for the first time but I do remember asking for the third book for Christmas in third grade since it came out sometime that fall. I also remember going to the midnight release at the bookstore for Goblet of Fire. I do remember struggling to get past the first few chapters of The Sorcerer's Stone the first time I read it but after that it was history. Ha.

I've been loving these Harry Potter videos! I was Harry's age when my Mom read the first book out loud to me and my siblings and I didn't know anything about it. Not a thing. So I remember when Hagrid said: "Harry, you're a wizard", I was completely stunned. I was like "He is?? I didn't expect that!" ;D Good times! I'm so lucky to be one of the kids who got to grow up with this series.

You find out about James 'saving'' Snape in Prisoner of Azkaban I think? I don't remember if it's mentioned in the movie, but Lupin & Sirius talk a LOT more about backstory stuff at the end of PoA in the book. I think it was still a half-truth by Dumbledore though, because he wasn't ready to tell Harry the truth about the Prophesy yet and he'd promised Snape he'd never tell anyone that he was ever helping to watch over Harry. Also, yeah, I can barely remember a time before HP haha. I think I was 6 or 7 when I read the first one? All I remember about the first time reading this book was that my parents and I read it out loud together.

when I was in first grade (over ten years ago) my mom read to be before I went to sleep, and one day she came to my room with a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone :"c) English isn't her first language so she pronounced a lot of words wrong but I remember being so excited for her to come read to me, I'd start reading it myself! When I was 6 years old, my dad started reading HP to me. At first, I read a few lines, a paragraph, a chapter and then, I read a book all by myself! When HP and the Deathly Hallows came out, I was 8 years old and I remember going to the event that night at my local library... It was so nice! One of the librarians was dressed as Hagrid XD I can proudly say that HP was the first book I read!
