This was fun to watch. I'm imagining the massive Carnosaur stumbling from a rock, getting shot and charged by vermin, almost dead, when the rats start missing all attacks because they're all trying to get the kill and getting in the way of each other. xD
You guys are really putting out some great looking (and well played) battle reports. Love the graphics for the command abilities, spells etc. I think you could get away with not editing out the dice roll noise; that's an integral part of the game! :D

Hey guys good batrep. Tough break Mike but better luck next time. Unfortunately Mike had missed several opportunities to kill the carnosaur. The Arch warlock can cast 2 spells a turn. And his spell Warpstorm could have done D3 wounds to all 3 units if they were in range. Also he could have fired his warpfire gauntlet and done another d3 mortal wounds to the carnosaur. I recommend pulling the warpflame stormvermin last next time, he could have melted a unit of guard per turn. Also as a heads up Rachel master of defense is activated whenever they suffer a wound not damage. So if you were to take 2 damage you roll two dice hoping for 6s not one. Great job killing some rats though

TheDreadinator sadly there is no such rule, some units do get some sort of benefit for rolling a one (daemons with banners etc) but no rule to auto pass
Excellent bat report. Easy to watch, clean presentation and the rules appearing as the game is played are great. And (unlike a certain other miniwargaming channel), you actually seem to understand your armies and know how to pronounce the names of your own figures. :)

@59:19 i believe the first question on page 2 of the rules errata answers your question, but sometimes what's written on a page and the way i read it, is two different things. if i'm understanding it and your situation correctly, it works like this, if Queek has the verminus key word or is considered a verminus unit, he gets the effect, a single model can be a unit and he is within range of himself, but i don't really know anything about the skaven.
This was a great battle report. It was very fun. The two armies a very well painted and look great on the table. I especially liked the special rules being show before the player use them. Well done WargamerOnline team!
For future reference: Master of Defense is for every point of damage you take. So you fail a save and something does 1 damage you roll 1 dice and need a 6 to stop the wound. If you fail a save and take 5 wounds you roll 5 dice and each 6 reduce that damage by 1.
@1:02:45 if you stop it there rachel looks like she's pointing at it (on screen, upper left hand corner), is that a scratch built realm gate for sylvaneth? that thing is awesome, it blends flawlessly with the GW woods terrain, would love to see GW produce that as a kit, it's excellent.
Phil created the Sylvaneth gate, it's an amazing build and works so well with the rest of the scenery. All the lights and work he did on the trees look fantastic as well, we will get closeups when they are all finished one day! -Sam

I am considering to get into this game (even though I can't afford it at the moment), and these factions seem the most interesting to me. So this is going to be epic to watch.
Very cool idea to show the command abilities and spells. A very great idea. Nice slaughter on the Skaven, Rachel. On the first Battleshock Test Mike would have got an other +1, as he had more than 10 models left. So one less loss. Mike could have re-rolled all his hit rolls of one on Queek (which he did sooooooo many...), as he is also in range of his command ability. So he might have killed the Bastiladon. And as Primitive Notions said, the Arch-Warlock could cast two spells per turn. With that Mike should not have charged him in. As all great Skaven lead from the back... 😜 Like Rachel, Mike should print his warscrolls. Way easier than to read on a phone.
Very good advice as always, Mike will read this for sure and be better prepared for his next game! I also gave him all the warscrolls on card except one so he cannot use that excuse! I tried something new adding the text, I like it although it adds more work and will probably continue to do it on future battle reports. If I don't do it for all of them at least Premium reports could be an option to have this added :) -Sam
54:49 I think Rachel attacks with the Saurus Guard twice here... Whether correct or not the Stormfiend should have gotten an activation before the second round of attacks... if those are even correct in the first place :P
Great Battrep :D but Rachel, you need to look at them warscrolls again ;) got a couple of rules wrong. Examples being Blood Roar and the Range on the Saurus Guard Polearms (2''). But good fun watching :)

My mistake. I went back and looked at blood roar again. I have always thought both players throw a die and see if any are gonna run. But the warscroll might just be referring to the battleshock dice. A minor thing; When Rachel rolls for Master of Defence Command Trait, it's not an extra 6+ save. It's a 6+ ignore wounds/mortal wounds. i.e. when she takes 2 attacks with 2 dmg, she must roll 4 dice, not only 2. Just like deathless minions trait from Death Allegiance. Keep up the good work :)

I am a simple man, I see Lizards riding Dinosaurs shooting lasers off their backs and giant Ratmen performing warp fuckery and body horror mutations, I press like.
Don't know if was picked up already but stuff like master of defense and undead saves are resolved against the amount of damage taken not wounds caused. I.e. The Carnosaur was struck by the Stormfiends crushing blows, Failing a save taking 2 damage then master of defense kicks in in which case 2 dice should've been rolled with 6's saving against this damage...... Instead of the 1 that was rolled against the wound........ Nice batrep.
Enjoyed the game guys! Getting put off AoS by people spamming treelord ancients or skyfires at the moment so its nice to get reminded it can be fun with low points and different factions
We will be doing larger games as well in the future but we really enjoy these smaller games and it helps us learn our armies easier. Also will be including other armies starting around 1000 points to add variety to our content, thanks for watching! -Sam
Don't forget every unit gets +1 bravery for every 10 models it has during the battleshock phase. Everyone seems to over look this :P Great battle report though. Keep 'em up!
Thanks Bearsan! Fortunately Phil is great at DIY so we saved a lot that way and any money we get from ads, donations and subscriptions goes straight back into the channel so we were able to save up and improve the look of the battle reports 🙂
I need help. I just bought the sylvaneth start collection box and I just want to know which is the best: durthu ancient or the tree lord? What is most important to buy first khurnoth hunters or drycha? Or should I just buy wyldwoods instead?
As far as I know the Tree Ancient seemed a little better for it's points cost. Khurnoth hunters with bows are really useful for dealing with characters or smaller units and the range allows them to sit back and snipe while holding objectives. Trees are so powerful for Sylvaneth that I would recommend getting at least 2-3 bases for of them to place on the table in your games. Not only do your miniatures get better at fighting (dryads), the enemy struggle to hit as well and they allow you to teleport around the table on top of a cover save! -Sam

Im new to sigmar (mainly play 40k) but I noticed at 6:20 you said 8 of the skaven died even though she wounded 4 times. so if a shot does multiple damage it spills overs to the other models in the unit?
Yeh in AoS this is a major difference to 40k as having multiple wound attacks is devastating! In 40k you can only kill up to one model per attack (which feels more realistic tbh) making the bigger hitters need to focus on the right targets more -Sam
Really love all the models in this video! Can someone answer me this, is this a small game of AoS or normal sized? I don't know the rules and meta all that well.
matched play has 3 tiers (or levels of engagement), the first is vanguard 1000 points and is played on a 4x4 table, the second is battlehost 2000 points and is played on a 4x6 table and the third is warhost 2500 points & above and is played on a 4x8 table. each points level also has their own rules for army composition, at 1000 points you can take 1-4 leaders, 2+ battleline, 0-2 artillery, 0-2 behemoths and any number of other units. as the points go up the size of the table and the number of units you may take scale up as well. these are general standards, how they'll be defined depends on what you watch on youtube and where you happen to live. most youtubers and tourney events (weekend conventions & stores) play 2000 points as a standard game, but the region i happen to live in is quite different, 95% of all games are between 1000 and 1500 points. i've been tabletop gaming for almost 30 years, but have only been playing AOS since the GHB came out (about once a week for the last 2 years) so i'm no expert, i've played at all levels and in my opinion (which also seems to line up with my region in general) 1500 points with the vanguard army composition on a 4x6 table seems to be the sweet spot, but it's all really a matter of taste, in my neck of the woods 500 is a small game, 1000 is a medium and 1500 is a large and is usual standard at home and at the stores. if you have an interest in maybe giving AOS a try, there's a few things to consider, first and foremost GW has given the impression that the second GHB will be out in august (which can be any point between the first and the last day of the month). the rumors indicate that some units will be getting points adjustments which can have huge effects on the meta depending on who gets them. many of the races who don't have battle tomes (army books) will be getting some of the things that were only available in battle tomes, so that will also have an effect on the game. we could also see new missions as well as things we haven't imagined or heard GW make reference to, so you may want to see whats in there, before you start making purchases. if you just can't wait, i suggest picking up an AOS skirmish rule book. it isn't overly expensive, is played the same as AOS, but is on a smaller scale (numbers wise) each model is a unit. the book, a hero and a unit box (and someone to play) is all you need to get started, if you find that you enjoy it, you can expand on the skirmish force.
anytime, if you have any more questions just let me know, getting started is a tricky thing, the more information you have going in, the better the chance you'll enjoy the game and stick around in the long run.
Nice one thanks guys! Why is it that girl always play either Lizardmen or Skaven? I know 3 who used to play WH 2 of them had rats and 1 had lizards; Gwyn form Miniwargaming plays Skaven and Rachel plays Lizardmen... OMG xD BTW I think "Master of defense" trait requires you to roll for each wound you take separately, so if you get wounded by an attack which inflicts multiple wounds you have to roll a dice for each one of the wounds suffered ;)
What do you tend to go for? We went for Primaris Psykers as they were cheap and allowed us to fit more in the list but it turns out their Smite casting is lethal and almost makes the Custodians the runners up when it comes to performance. -Sam
WargamerOnline I was using Celestine, but had a bad experience rolling a 1 to get her back I'm Gona try the psykers Instead of the land raider I'm going to take the dred, ratlings, a 10 man scion squad and a heavy weapon team
I found the dread never really does much, I was going to use Celestine as Rachel loves the model and it's technically her army but a lot of her buffs and abilities are based around sisters or guard and she didn't compliment Custodians as much as other stuff did. Ratlings are a good idea, I like Vindicares purely for the ability to deploy wherever they need and as a deployment unit forcing the opponent to place units down before you commit. -Sam
27:24 Are you supposed to take any rat from that unit as a casualty? Shouldn't you take one of the rats that are actually within melee range of the Bastilodon? Great game and beautiful models. Kudos.
hey guys where can i see a video about points if i have a unit of liberators that cost 100 points and its 5-20 and i have 6 of them do they count as 100 still?
Clan rats are FAR from useless... if you see any good skaven players in 2k games with a good mixed army you will find they lock down things more than easily enough while actual competetive units maul every unit you hold dear... my competitive Skaven mixed list has Clan Rats and I table people by round 3...ON AVERAGE. Dont judge something based on a small points game like this lol... but this game was obviously just for fun sooo ya... not even a matched play game XD...If this was a competetive game that carnosaur would have been dead round 1 or 2 cause that skaven list would have had 9+ jezzails backed by lord of war...and dont get me started on the Warpseer LOL...
Not to mention that Poison Wind Mortar... Through an intire game vs Beast Claw Raiders it didn't do ANY damage what so ever. It was deservingly named Most Useless Unit in that game. Love this chanel its very smart with the split screen, gives a nice overview and I especially like the dice trays where you cut that annoying and often loud clattering sound of dices. And the listing of skills and stuff at the bottom so we don't have to look everything up all the time. ;-)

Aren't they doing the combat phase wrong? One person is doing all of their attacks then the other does all of theirs . I thought you took it in turns to attack each other with 1 attack until all the units attacks were exhausted

Also safe rolls of 1 always count as passed according to my knowledge, so the Stormvermin would not have run in the first turn.

Don't know if was picked up already but stuff like master of defense and undead saves are resolved against the amount of damage taken not wounds caused.
I.e. The Carnosaur was struck by the Stormfiends crushing blows, Failing a save taking 2 damage then master of defense kicks in in which case 2 dice should've been rolled with 6's saving against this damage...... Instead of the 1 that was rolled against the wound........

I think that you can double the movement of the saurus guard if you have a musician, but if you do, you can't charge that turn, Is this right?

Enjoyed the game guys! Getting put off AoS by people spamming treelord ancients or skyfires at the moment so its nice to get reminded it can be fun with low points and different factions
We will be doing larger games as well in the future but we really enjoy these smaller games and it helps us learn our armies easier. Also will be including other armies starting around 1000 points to add variety to our content, thanks for watching! -Sam
Don't forget every unit gets +1 bravery for every 10 models it has during the battleshock phase. Everyone seems to over look this :P Great battle report though. Keep 'em up!

I need help. I just bought the sylvaneth start collection box and I just want to know which is the best: durthu ancient or the tree lord?
What is most important to buy first khurnoth hunters or drycha?
Or should I just buy wyldwoods instead?
As far as I know the Tree Ancient seemed a little better for it's points cost. Khurnoth hunters with bows are really useful for dealing with characters or smaller units and the range allows them to sit back and snipe while holding objectives. Trees are so powerful for Sylvaneth that I would recommend getting at least 2-3 bases for of them to place on the table in your games. Not only do your miniatures get better at fighting (dryads), the enemy struggle to hit as well and they allow you to teleport around the table on top of a cover save! -Sam

Im new to sigmar (mainly play 40k) but I noticed at 6:20 you said 8 of the skaven died even though she wounded 4 times. so if a shot does multiple damage it spills overs to the other models in the unit?
Yeh in AoS this is a major difference to 40k as having multiple wound attacks is devastating! In 40k you can only kill up to one model per attack (which feels more realistic tbh) making the bigger hitters need to focus on the right targets more -Sam

1.000 points is a small game. Most games are played at 2.000 points and will take one to 1,5 hours.

matched play has 3 tiers (or levels of engagement), the first is vanguard 1000 points and is played on a 4x4 table, the second is battlehost 2000 points and is played on a 4x6 table and the third is warhost 2500 points & above and is played on a 4x8 table. each points level also has their own rules for army composition, at 1000 points you can take 1-4 leaders, 2+ battleline, 0-2 artillery, 0-2 behemoths and any number of other units. as the points go up the size of the table and the number of units you may take scale up as well.
these are general standards, how they'll be defined depends on what you watch on youtube and where you happen to live. most youtubers and tourney events (weekend conventions & stores) play 2000 points as a standard game, but the region i happen to live in is quite different, 95% of all games are between 1000 and 1500 points. i've been tabletop gaming for almost 30 years, but have only been playing AOS since the GHB came out (about once a week for the last 2 years) so i'm no expert, i've played at all levels and in my opinion (which also seems to line up with my region in general) 1500 points with the vanguard army composition on a 4x6 table seems to be the sweet spot, but it's all really a matter of taste, in my neck of the woods 500 is a small game, 1000 is a medium and 1500 is a large and is usual standard at home and at the stores.
if you have an interest in maybe giving AOS a try, there's a few things to consider, first and foremost GW has given the impression that the second GHB will be out in august (which can be any point between the first and the last day of the month). the rumors indicate that some units will be getting points adjustments which can have huge effects on the meta depending on who gets them. many of the races who don't have battle tomes (army books) will be getting some of the things that were only available in battle tomes, so that will also have an effect on the game. we could also see new missions as well as things we haven't imagined or heard GW make reference to, so you may want to see whats in there, before you start making purchases. if you just can't wait, i suggest picking up an AOS skirmish rule book. it isn't overly expensive, is played the same as AOS, but is on a smaller scale (numbers wise) each model is a unit. the book, a hero and a unit box (and someone to play) is all you need to get started, if you find that you enjoy it, you can expand on the skirmish force.

Why is it that girl always play either Lizardmen or Skaven? I know 3 who used to play WH 2 of them had rats and 1 had lizards; Gwyn form Miniwargaming plays Skaven and Rachel plays Lizardmen... OMG xD
BTW I think "Master of defense" trait requires you to roll for each wound you take separately, so if you get wounded by an attack which inflicts multiple wounds you have to roll a dice for each one of the wounds suffered ;)

What do you tend to go for? We went for Primaris Psykers as they were cheap and allowed us to fit more in the list but it turns out their Smite casting is lethal and almost makes the Custodians the runners up when it comes to performance. -Sam

I found the dread never really does much, I was going to use Celestine as Rachel loves the model and it's technically her army but a lot of her buffs and abilities are based around sisters or guard and she didn't compliment Custodians as much as other stuff did. Ratlings are a good idea, I like Vindicares purely for the ability to deploy wherever they need and as a deployment unit forcing the opponent to place units down before you commit. -Sam
27:24 Are you supposed to take any rat from that unit as a casualty? Shouldn't you take one of the rats that are actually within melee range of the Bastilodon?

Unfortunately you pay for them in brackets so you would pay the full amount in that example. Better to stick to 5/10/15/20 at a time! -Sam

Clan rats are FAR from useless... if you see any good skaven players in 2k games with a good mixed army you will find they lock down things more than easily enough while actual competetive units maul every unit you hold dear... my competitive Skaven mixed list has Clan Rats and I table people by round 3...ON AVERAGE. Dont judge something based on a small points game like this lol... but this game was obviously just for fun sooo ya... not even a matched play game XD...If this was a competetive game that carnosaur would have been dead round 1 or 2 cause that skaven list would have had 9+ jezzails backed by lord of war...and dont get me started on the Warpseer LOL...
Not to mention that Poison Wind Mortar... Through an intire game vs Beast Claw Raiders it didn't do ANY damage what so ever. It was deservingly named Most Useless Unit in that game. Love this chanel its very smart with the split screen, gives a nice overview and I especially like the dice trays where you cut that annoying and often loud clattering sound of dices. And the listing of skills and stuff at the bottom so we don't have to look everything up all the time. ;-)
