      Haha, it's no problem, and I'm not even sure how much I talk about other routes I want to do... the Via de la Plata is definitely on my list, I just can't get away for an extended length of time in spring/fall, and I think starting all the way in the south in the summer would just be dangerously hot! Although, this summer, I'm toying with the idea of doing a section of it, just starting more north (maybe in Salamanca). And I've also been thinking about doing the Voie d'Arles!! It's as if you've read my mind! That's yet another option for this summer...

    Great discussion of your walking! Although I too like a journey to be really planned out, I really like the idea off not having reservations---it just seems like that is one less thing to worry about. The Camino will just lead you to where you should rest that night and cross paths with who you should meet. Of course, I say that now...!

    Hi nadine...me and my partner love your vlogs...please keep doing them...we walked from sarria to santiago in Dec 22 and absolutely loved the experience...so much so that we are walking the finchale camino this weekend here in the UK...its a recognised camino route and the 53km we are doing will go towards the camino ingles from a coruna to santiago...we have our camino passports and will be starting at finchale priory...buen camino

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't heard of this route, though I know that the UK does have recognized Camino routes- what a great plan! And I'm so glad you had such a great experience on the Camino this past December- for a few years now I've wanted to walk a winter Camino, I think there must be something really special about walking at this time of the year.

    • @richardbrown8881
      @richardbrown8881 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The routes here are being extended all the time and the finchale camino now goes as far as york...the scenery here is very much like galicia...that's the first thing I noticed when we set off from sarria to portomarin,,it felt like we were walking in the uk,even down to the wildlife..lots of little Robins and blackbirds
      It was a nice steady 10 to 12C so quite comfortable for walking and the ground was also solid so no mud to walk through,,and there was still quite a few walking the camino at this time of year

      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How wonderful! I definitely considered trying to go this spring, but I'd heard that- since Japan had been closed to tourists for a long time- the demand on the route would be higher than usual (and I just didn't get my act together in time to make reservations, find flights, etc). But I may try to get there next year!

    I lost a pair of shorts in Sarria in 2017. I left them under my pillow. My best shorts ever ! I also aim to be always Camino “ready”. In my town I am locally known as Col “the walker”. I will be doing Portuguese this year.

    I will do my second camino in June and probably will be the camino ingles. Then because I live in Italy and there are so many caminos here, I have planned to do the cammino di S.Francesco ( S.Francis camino) from La Verna to Assisi and the cammino dei borghi silenti which is a 90 km ring walk along tiny towns with 20/30 people who lives there and it is in Umbria. We have so many caminos here but I will try to come back on the way to Santiago every year from now on. I never felt so content and free like when I was on the camino.

    • @NadineWalks

      Those routes in Italy sound incredible! One day I'd like to walk in Italy (for some reason it makes me nervous! But then again, each trek in a new country makes me a little nervous until I start to understand how everything works). But I also agree with you, that there's something special about walking in Spain and arriving in Santiago- which I'm sure is the reason that I continue to go back there :)

    If you want to walk south to north, it could be very hot at summer, but you have one chance starting in Cáceres (what a beautiful city!) walking accross the mountains in Sierra de Gredos and continuing to the north crossing Sierra de Guadarrama. Then you have to cross the Inner Plateau from Avila to Salamanca. That is hot, but not so much. In Salamanca you're almost in Leon and from that place on is business as usual.

      @@NadineWalks I'm planning to do my first Camino in May 2024 and I'm thinking of doing three: Santo Domingo, Leon and Santiago. I'm more interested in the history of the places rather than the luxury aspect. So even if I can't get the pilgrim rate, I'll be pulling the trigger. Do you take any extra precautions to avoid Covid? How has it affected your Caminos?
    If you wanted a shorter Spain hike that's not a Camino, check out the Carros de Foc (Carros de Fuego or Chariots of Fire) in the Catalan Pyrenees. I'm dying to do it, but it takes a lot of coordination and booking ahead of time. My hiking club in València talked about it so often.

      Sea to Summit make very light, very good dry bags. Also think about a pack liner - I use a nylofume one - but you can use a trash bag too. Less fussy than a pack cover.

    Why do all TH-camrs that do the Camino Portuguese only do the coastal route? We need more videos about the central route, some great things to see on that route

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question- I haven't looked for vidoes for the central Portuguese route, so I wasn't aware that there aren't as many videos. It IS surprising because the central Portuguese route is the second most popular Camino! I can only speak for myself- the central is high on my list of walks to do, but I went with the coastal first because, well, I love walking along the coast. But whenever I get to the central route I'll be sure to take videos to share here!

    good day lovely lady ... I have a question ... is it possible to break up the less popular caminos in stages that average around 15 km (about 10 miles) a day ? It seems in my research that the less popular routes have greater distances between services and wondered if you might elaborate ... thanks so much

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it depends on which Camino route you're looking at. I did a quick glance through gronze.com, and for a route like the Camino Aragones, it is possible (aside from maybe one stage) to break the walk into about 15km stages. But for others, like the Invierno, it might be harder. As you guessed, there are less services/infrastructure for pilgrims on the less-traveled routes, so shorter stages can sometimes be tricky.

    Two quick questions…..I am always telling people that there is a huge difference between the Camino/s and the other long distance hikes of the world that make them so much more appealing, certainly to me. It’s a spiritual, historic, emotional, magical thing that I cannot find words to explain. Do you agree? Is there something special about them for you?
    Over several Caminos I have had a few challenging moments with dangerous or out of control dogs. I know you have a had a run in or two with wild boars but have you ever had trouble with dogs? Recently in late November, on a stretch of the Norte in Galicia I had a very tense encounter with two dogs in a farmyard that the route headed right through. Any advice or tips for dealing with such encounters?
