    I just did this exact thing to my 2020 RAM Bighorn yesterday after watching this last week, and ordering the speakers. I went with Kickers for the 3.5s and rear 6x9s, and MTX for the front doors though, because they do fit, and were less expensive than Infinity. Going from 8ohm factory to 4ohm aftermarket speakers makes a HUGE difference in overall volume and music clarity. The factory base speakers are muddy and terrible. RAM should be ashamed of themselves for shipping a $50k+ truck with .50c speakers. I absolutely LOVE the truck other than the speakers, so I am glad it was an easy fix. Next up will be a small amp and sub I think. Thank you for the tutorial!

    I’m sure most people know this already, but I didn’t and learned the hard way. Install one box to the rear and another box to the front. Don’t mix. Bone head move. 🤦🏼‍♂️ great video. Very informative. I got the same set up and it sounds great. That’s for the Tutorial!!!

    Yeah, I was looking at the Focal ICU 690, but the Crutchfield configurator claimed 6 X 9 speakers would not fit in the front doors. After calling them, the rep I spoke with assured me they would fit.
    In the meantime, I think I'm going with the Hertz UNO X 690 instead of the Focal.
    Thanks for posting this!

    Completed my speaker install, at least the tough ones - all 4 doors. 2 dash speakers on hold until the right wiring harness arrives. But I know they're easy bc I already removed them. I installed exactly what so5thgen did; same infinities. NOTE btw - the dash speakers take a different wiring harness than the doors.
    Imo, for ~$280 and my time, it was well worth it. The improvement, especially in the Highs i.e. the treble/tweeter stuff, was significant. Base seemed similar to me. That's not to say that it was a breeze. I'm handy but I don't do this stuff every day. So it was a little nerve racking ripping the door panels off. I mean you do have to basically get your fingers behind the panel pins and pull and pry. How I didn't break something in 4 doors is a miracle. But, trying to be patient, strong but gentle at the same time, it worked. so5thgen's lead and tips were helpful if nothing else to let me know that it could be diy.

  • @stephenbrothers9185
    @stephenbrothers9185 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I assume the 5th gens are the same as the 4th, but you'd be better off to buy the cheaper 2 ways for the front doors as most of the mids/highs get sent to the dash speakers and the front door speakers are bass and lower mids only. I got the 2 ways for the front and 3 ways for the rear and the same as you for the dash. Happy with the system overall though I did have to make sure that all my polarities match because they didn't initially and it was a noticeable impact to sound quality.
    The Rockford Fosgate P300 series all in one subs also make a great addition that's pretty much plug and play with the factory system

      The bass output it night and day difference for anyone with a base model stereo. For the factory Alpine speakers it’s comparable but these still provide more bass. These Infinity speakers are still limited by the oem amp. (Meaning there’s more bass potential that can be unlocked by adding. DSR1 and secondary amp). If my truck came factory with HK stereo package I would not be swapping my speakers.

  • @mhrepoman
    @mhrepoman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the decibel rating, you're correct to an extent, but I don't think you really understand what that means. The decibel rating on a speaker if what is referred to as the sensitivity of the driver and is given that decibel level based off of 1 watt of power at 1 meter of distance, what is also important to go with this is the speakers RMS power rating. So to give an example of what this means and to know what you can expect from the speaker in a volume aspect is as follows: If your speaker has a sensitivity rating of say 90 DB (decibel) @1w/1m, and the speaker has an RMS rating of say 150 watts, to find the max DB the driver can produce, for every 3 DB, the volume that your ear hears doubles, in order to get 3DB from your speaker then you need to double the power, and you can do this up until you reach the RMS rating of the speaker. So,If you take your 90 DB sensitivity and you double the power going to it, you get 93 DB @ 2 watts. 96 @ 4W, 99 @ 8W, 102 @ 16W, 105 @ 32W, 108 @ 64W, 111 @ 128W. Thats roughly where it would end. Now, being in a vehicle you will get what is called cabin gain so it will actually be louder than that. Because you have the speaker in an enclosure of a sort (aka the door) you will also get a little bit of volume from that. Look at like this, a sub in a sealed enclosure plays at a certain DB, but if you take that sub and put the same sub with the same amount of power into a ported enclosure that was built per the manufacturers recommended dimensions, it will be louder. Thats the effects of enclosure gain. So, now you have a better understanding of what a speakers sensitivity is. Pioneer makes some subwoofers that have 93db sensitivity. There are some other drivers that I have seen and used in custom installs that are also in the 91-95db range. I did a custom 3 way front stage install using drivers I got from a company called parts express and since I bought the drivers individually and not in a set, I didn't have a crossover, which I don't like passive crossovers anyway. Plus the power handling was different for each driver. I ran a 7 in mid bass, 3.5" mid range and a 1.1" tweeter. Then I powered it with a 6 channel amp that had a built in crossover system that allowed me to adjust everything from output level to the high pass, low pass and subsonic filters. You could also do the same thing with an active 3 way eq and a 2 channel amp. It sounded amazing to say the least! Anyway, nice video. Will like and sub. Gonna watch part 2 now.

    • @ic3man5

      I think the stock headunit/amp can't handle it at higher volumes (It could barely handle stock speakers at high volumes). I think you are just stuck at a lower volume (which is still higher than max stock volume).

Is this caused because of the active noise cancellation unit or something? If so, how do I disable it? TIA!

    • @so5thgen

      Dawson Templer none at all. Active notice cancellation is built into the head unit. Active Noise Cancellation is best described as the attenuation or reduction of a certain frequency by emitting the same frequency from a loudspeaker, but with the phase inverted. The inverted phase tone essentially cancels out the unwanted noises.
