How can you know if all linear motion guide devices in a structure are going to react (move) in the same direction or displacement magnitude?

Seems a lot like hammer looking for a nail type of solution. In what way exactly is the traditional lead rubber bearing insufficient? Sure you can do the same thing with linear bearings and rotary dampers, but why if you already have a cheap and stupid simple solution that does the same job with much less cost and complexity?
